- wunksta, on 08/14/2008, -0/+98they should settle their differences more often in bikinis.
- emodro, on 08/14/2008, -3/+46You mean Brazil....I mean it is a difficult situation, but all Georgia did was give passports out Georgia didn't really strike back, Brazilians did in Georgia's name.
- doublsh0t, on 08/15/2008, -0/+38less stupid commentary--more, bigger pictures
- bixby1, on 08/14/2008, -0/+20"But it would not be Georgian blood to stain the white sands of Beijing." A little heavy-handed on the part of the reporter but I dugg the ***** out of this anyway.
- Jrr6415sun, on 08/15/2008, -1/+19yea this was really Brazil vs. Russia.. so it doesn't really mean anything
- tmacfan123, on 08/14/2008, -0/+16Beach Volleyball is so much better than fighting. When i watch war on tv...i go to sleep...when i watch beach volleyball i want to go to sleep only if the people i'm watching will come with me...
- DLRULZ, on 08/15/2008, -0/+14You do realize that they are Brazilians, who don't speak Georgian and have been to Georgia only twice. They weren't good enough to make the Brazilian team so they got naturalized by Georgia.
- sanman, on 08/15/2008, -5/+17thank goodness it wasn't the men's team
too many European guys think they look good in speedos - Corsair970, on 08/15/2008, -1/+8Because beating a country's team in volleyball almost makes up for a crushing military defeat.
- hakkola, on 08/15/2008, -2/+8Funny, because Russia giving passports away started this mess.
- maxtangent, on 08/14/2008, -9/+15Georgia strikes back? More like striking again, since they started the whole mess by shelling civilians enough to get them charged with a war crime.
- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -1/+6or out of them.
honestly, I'd be fine with either of those propositions - Opiate, on 08/15/2008, -0/+5Reduced to rubble? This isn't Lebanon.
- vkiperman, on 08/15/2008, -0/+5There is something wrong with the title. Georgia was the original aggressor in Ossetia.
- SFBWork, on 08/15/2008, -0/+5If only all our political problems can be solved with hot chicks in bikinis. The would would be a better place.
- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -0/+4Article without the cruft:
"In the Russia-Georgia conflict, the score is now tied.
After several days of watching their cities being reduced to rubble, Georgia decided to settle their differences with Russia the old fashioned way. They pulled on their bikinis and took it to the beach.
Russia trounced Georgia in the first set 21 to 10. Georgia struck back in the second set with a victory of 22 to 20, and a 15 to 12 win in the third set. As those two Georgian chicks pressed their unbelievably tiny bikini bottoms together in a victory hug, it was clear to the world that this is one little country that knows how to take care of itself." - BrettSchu, on 08/15/2008, -0/+4It was funny. Its just been overused.
- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -1/+5enough with that ***** quote/meme, it wasn't funny on family guy and it's not funny anywhere else.
- rald84, on 08/15/2008, -0/+4uh this 236.com, not nytimes.com. they're like theonion but less subtle.
- andy3109, on 08/15/2008, -1/+4Dugg for the title.
- hardcorestar, on 08/15/2008, -0/+3so is anyone else up for the resolving the world's problems with hot women, volleyball and bikinis thing? i know i am
- Nerfdude, on 08/15/2008, -0/+3so hey, way to make light of a terrible situation.
- bca102, on 08/15/2008, -0/+3Because it would have meant so much if it actually was Georgia?
- ZeeZee2k, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2Bush has mistresses?
- netownage, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2Breaking News~! Russia has invaded Brazil
- mijelh, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2That's what Olympic games are about: people from one country competing for THAT country
- damack, on 08/14/2008, -6/+8Wow we might be saying "Georgia won" this month after all
- Rickler, on 08/15/2008, -2/+4"Georgia didn't really strike back, Brazilians did in Georgia's name."
Strike Russia back after Georgia attacked first? - inactive, on 08/15/2008, -2/+4fap fap fap fap
- charlietuna, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2@djobacca: Ahh yes, "every" dumb European? You just proved me right. and your ad hominem insults reveal even more. Why is Finland armed to the teeth? Look at their eastern border and you'll see. Canada's arsenal is a bit lighter no?
- riyehn, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2make hot lesbian sex not war
- charlietuna, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2That imagery turns me on.
- charlietuna, on 08/15/2008, -1/+3I think that is a loaded question, and more than a little leading. At the present time many Americans are angry at Russia for the same reasons they are angry at the current US administration for invading Iraq. It is a heavy handed and misguided attempt to show bravado, and more than a few people will be put through the meat grinder for no really good reason. Putin is as much of an ass as Bush, only smarter and with better taste in mistresses.
- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2No foursome public sex orgy in the sand? What kind of sport is this?
Four women playing with each other in skimpy bikinis should do something more interesting than pass a ball around.
Buried. - charlietuna, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2What would you have Europe do to "prove" it's independence? Perhaps the US and western Europe simply agree about more things. What has Russia done for western Europe anyhow? In the 1950s there was this terrific Iron curtain, more recently they have gouged the west for oil and gas money. My favorite: a few years ago Russia invites western firms like Royal Dutch Shell to fix their oil infrastructure only to falsely claim violations of environmental laws and basically seize their assets. Thanks Russkies, thanks a lot.
Russian's think capitalism is mob rule, and it shows. Why is Europe cozy with the US? Because deep down we share the same values. Russia is so busy trying to get rich - because that will prove they are as good as the west - that it is becoming one big cosa nostra empire. And that sucks. - berkough, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2Dugg for 23/6.
- mlvassallo, on 08/15/2008, -1/+2Wow, Georgia really does want to become like America... they are already outsourcing their jobs!
- lead2thehead, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1I've always considered Russia's method to be "the old fashioned way".
- aftern9ne, on 08/15/2008, -1/+2Serious question?
The Cold War never really ended, we both want to be the world superpower, etc. - charlietuna, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1No doubt the Georgian administration provoked this, and I am sure they have their own selfish reasons. I suspect they hoped to drag the US, and Europe into a showdown that would somehow help their position with the west. Whatever they tried, they managed to get Russia to lay waste to their cities and look like a bull in a china shop. Russians are smart and ambitious, but I have never heard anyone say they were subtle or forebearing.
- copypastry, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1Damnit I wish i had HD olympic coverage/an HDTV to watch it on.
- jlbravo93, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1russia is pathetic, picking on small countries to show dominance. what a weak attempt at hegemony. they should be kicked out of the g8
- EtherGnat, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1You can trace aggression back at least 17 years on both sides. There is evidence to suggest Ossetians were mounting guerrilla attacks against Georgia prior to their incursion. Of course even if that's true you could trace the conflict back to an earlier action by the Georgians I'm sure.
Regardless the Georgians overreacted at the least. Then the Russians appear to have overreacted. Now everything is completely screwed up. - ImYourRealDad, on 08/15/2008, -2/+3More Georgian knobslobbering...they're not without blood on their hands, people!
- Ultra99, on 08/15/2008, -1/+2Dunno about that one...some womenfolk are rather hairier than others
- gasoline, on 08/15/2008, -1/+2Ok, I see I'm being dugg down. With the above comment I meant that military victory has no value if the sphere of influence of the winning country decreases. By agreeing with French president's peace plan, the Russians agreed to allow international peacekeeping troops into South Ossetia and Abkhazia and to resolve the conflict with international cooperation. Their influence in the region has significantly decreased.
- BabyWookie, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1Hah hah hah! Using Brazillian chicks to kick the Russians' ass for them, eh? Did they bitch and complain to them first? Does Georgia always expect others to fight their fight for them or what?
- thestranger, on 08/15/2008, -0/+123/6 needs some digg action.
I encourage anyone to watch some of their videos. They are great
