- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -5/+35And an eclipse, which is a bad omen in China - except that they've officially declared that THIS eclipse is a good omen, so that's all right. Phew.
And pigeons and kites are banned, which is bad. But you ARE allowed to protest during the Olympics, which is good (but only in a few designated areas, and without any banners or flags or emblems - and you have to apply for your 'protest application' at a government office, giving all your details... which might not be so good).
And let's not even mention the net censorship, cellphone bugging, pollution, human rights stuff, Tibet, etc, etc, etc. - None of which I even knew about until the Olympics came along. I guess maybe the Olympics aren't exactly a wonderful PR triumph for China... - donkeybat64, on 08/06/2008, -1/+11you guys suck, instead of commenting about how karma's a bitch and they deserve it..
i hope china will have the best Olympics that the world have ever seen. and i hope for those few days the people of the world could put aside their differences and have fun! - inactive, on 08/06/2008, -0/+10Seriously, SOME of you are ignorant idiots.
A natural disaster occurs, and China is--once again--criticized and blamed.
UNBELIEVABLE. - ilistenisee, on 08/06/2008, -1/+10i see how society has downgraded every bits of goodness we have. I'm sure you guys would have the same ignorant comments if u see the tens of thousands who suffered the earthquake, the ones who've lost almost all of their families, and little assets that might mean the world to them. I'm sure once u've seen the expressions on their faces, u'll laugh, and still joke about it.
- dthebear, on 08/06/2008, -1/+10the chinese gov were praised by its people for how much it has done right after the 5/12 quake, chinese soldiers were sent to rescue site, the chinese premier was on site 4 hours after the quake.
how much has our gov done after katrina? our soldiers were sent in to keep the "looters" away from stores? where was bush when people in new orlean are dying?
before you hate, make sure you know what is really going on. - erichw1504, on 08/06/2008, -2/+9About as much as your comment failed.
- sanosuke001, on 08/06/2008, -3/+10Just like your English?
- scurf, on 08/06/2008, -0/+5They didn't say they welcome the terrorists. China has his own problems with Muslim extremists. It is not likely that they are going to shoot you down with a missile when you walk into the stadium.
- shutaro, on 08/06/2008, -1/+6ror
- jeremyduffy, on 08/05/2008, -8/+13So smog and earthquakes. The games will be interesting this year.
- AlexanderBlue, on 08/06/2008, -0/+4This meme is already old, but it's just not funny when where talking about something that actually killed a lot of people.
- vbullinger, on 08/06/2008, -1/+4Can you name me an event where it wouldn't be a horrible thing?
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -1/+4My guess is the chi dragons deep inside the earth are annoyed by humans.
- fejjfunklamella, on 08/06/2008, -8/+10So, I guess they forgot to shoot the ground with anti-earthquake pellets?
- nyw7070, on 08/06/2008, -1/+3Aren't those for fireworks?
- boester, on 08/06/2008, -1/+3I'm pretty sure the media, tibetans etc.. took advantage of the Olympics to give China a bad rep. The stuff the media has shown was never a problem in China prior the spotlight on the Olympics.
Besides, I think you should take some responsibility in the pollution in China as you're using many of their products. - inactive, on 08/06/2008, -2/+4"That is not earthquake. It is just giant panda mating season!" —Official statement from Defense Ministry

- jakatak, on 08/06/2008, -3/+3that's why I am banning the Beijing Olympics.
You forgot to mention the million and a half people ran from their homes so they could demolish the area for the Olympics. - shutaro, on 08/06/2008, -1/+1Swimming.
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -2/+2Better than ringing the complex with surface-to-surface missiles. That would make things really interesting.
- desifitness, on 08/06/2008, -0/+0Not many know about the other quake on the same day of the LA quake on 29th July.

- jakatak, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0Not according to frontline on PBS. They were told to leave! I do read the news. I would love for you to show me where in the news it says they were relocated and paid.
If so then you should tell the award winning show Frontline that they are completely wrong in their documentary where they interview people who are now homeless due to the Olympics.
Let me guess. Those were Chinese actors with dirt on their faces. Nice job. Try having a conversation with a larger vocabulary. F bombs just show ignorance. - jakeny, on 08/06/2008, -3/+2WHERE IS SHARON STONE WHEN WE NEED HER!!!!
side note: don't take that seriously - shortyjacobs, on 08/06/2008, -4/+3***** you. Two of my friends died from this meme.
- frankb00th, on 08/06/2008, -3/+2nothing to see...no earthquake...they were just testing underground fireworks..........for the openings..........in case it rains...yeah yeah that's it...fireworks.
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -3/+1I think its the weight of 1.3 Billion that causes the earthquakes in China. Let's send Rose O'Donell there and it will tip the scale.
- donkeybat64, on 08/06/2008, -7/+4who gives a ***** about you, ur six years old jack, im surprised u can even type this much..

- Jacolyte, on 08/06/2008, -11/+5Hey, at least they've got a plan for when it rains. Despite the earthquakes, pollution, and oppression.
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -8/+2I'm hoping I get to see some athletes have asthma attacks during their performance while an earthquake destroys the seating of the audience.
- ybotoby, on 08/06/2008, -8/+2new vs. old?
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -9/+3I just can't set aside the fact that China says they welcome and open all but decide to put Surface to Air Missiles around Olympic complex.
They lie to to their own people and the world. - MoralThreat, on 08/06/2008, -9/+3The only thing I care about (well besides the safety of everyone) is that I get to see the trampoline events.
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -13/+6even freaking Mother Nature doesn't like china.
