- slapded, on 08/25/2008, -0/+56forbes = biggest html loser
- HeDiggMe, on 08/25/2008, -0/+51They left out Lolo Jones. She and Sacramone can have all the consolation they need in my hottub.
- jester55, on 08/25/2008, -3/+52Alicia Sacramone is still hot though
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -1/+49Sacramone may have been a loser on the gymnastics floor but she's a winner in the hearts of many young horny males.
- cmallinson, on 08/25/2008, -0/+40OK, one of the athletes on this list (Katie Hoff) got 3 medals!!! What a message to send. Win multiple gold medals or you're a loser.
- kidathinnes, on 08/25/2008, -0/+39What about the Cuban guy who kicked the judge?
Ahhh yes, Cuban B! - MichaelEgan, on 08/25/2008, -0/+35Most of these "biggest losers" are silver or bronze medalists. Where's that guy from China who forgot to show up for his heat and cost his partner a medal shot?
- jackwaters, on 08/25/2008, -0/+29Oh I hate Forbes slideshow....
- JDOG, on 08/25/2008, -0/+29Could this not have been on one or two pages? This slideshow business drives me insane.
- FlimBlimmer, on 08/25/2008, -0/+22Buried for Forbes slideshow.
- loganz, on 08/25/2008, -0/+17she didnt lose it for USA. if she did the same as her prelims (which was pretty good), they still would have came up short.
- GiJoeBob, on 08/25/2008, -1/+18Up yours Forbes. Let's see you get out there and place 4th in the world. Jack asses.
- pudds, on 08/25/2008, -1/+17Submitting a slideshow should be a bannable offense.
- ryrysofly, on 08/25/2008, -3/+18let me just announce that shawn johnson is the cutest thing ever
*cues pedobear ascii* - theshalit, on 08/25/2008, -0/+15this is ridiculous. They tout someone who wasn't even at Beijing as a "loser". A good chunk of their entries were silver and bronze winners which means they are still the second or third best athletes in the world. The entire list is *****.
- Vocklery, on 08/25/2008, -0/+14I think that the Olympics biggest losers are those non-competitors who value the win over the best efforts of the athlete on that particular day, as if the athlete actually owes a win to anyone (let alone the authors at Forbes Magazine) and callously speak poorly of a person as a result of their.
Yes, they owe it to themselves to give the best effort they can in the moment, and they owe it to the team to give the best effort they can in the moment, but they owe the results to no one, but themselves.
I am proud of every Olympian, regardless of their sport, their national origin, or their final standings.
You should be, too. - Rudegar, on 08/25/2008, -0/+14must bury forbes muuuust bury forbes...
- drmangrum, on 08/25/2008, -0/+13Buried. It's this type of attitude that has ruined the Olympics. It's this attitude that has put more thought on how to cheat and get away with it than compete fairly. The athletes are by no means losers. They've given up a lot and have achieved something most of the world will never even have a chance at doing. The same asshats that call them losers are the same ones that swill beer every sunday while watching a football game proclaiming they know more than the quarterback.
- Niubai, on 08/25/2008, -1/+13Forbes is a loser. Those people are winners just for being there. Any person who reaches the olympic games is a winner.
- LogitechG15, on 08/25/2008, -0/+12I'm not going to say anything negative, because I'm sitting behind my computer screen while they have trained their life for this.
- revjustin2, on 08/25/2008, -1/+12@ZeeZee2k - yes...there are these people called "Homosexuals". They are commonly referred to as "gay guys". Their sexual preference is for other males.
There are also homosexul women called "Lesbians". They like other females.
There will be a test later, so study up. - tikistyle, on 08/25/2008, -1/+12Buried. The article is all about "losing marketers attention" and failing to gain sponsorships. Aren't the Olympics about something bigger than money?
- Raignn, on 08/25/2008, -0/+11They act like these athletes purposefully ***** up. They still MADE it to the Olympics, most of them made it to their finals, and frankly, most of them showed incredibly sportsmanship in the face of not living up to their OWN expectations.
And P.S. not winning gold does not make you a loser! - Chicken, on 08/25/2008, -2/+12My horny heart belongs to Shawn Johnson.
- beerhound, on 08/25/2008, -0/+9Not to mention that she was not the source of all this hype, the same media that are now calling her a loser are the ones who created all the hype in the 1st place. Primarily to drum up magazine/new stand/ratings/page hits. There are roughly 6 billion of us on this rock, she is one of the 3 very best at what she does, I think that is beyond awesome, it is inspiring. Forbes on the other hand, comes nowhere close to being one of the 3 best in the journalistic field, not even in the financial reporting niche. Forbes = massive losers!!! (especially with that "slide show" article designed expressly to pump up the # of page hits for the ad revenue)
I also have to point out that most of these athletes were injured, did they even see the pain in the Chinese sprinters face as he TRIED to compete? The guy couldn't even clear 2 hurdles during warm up! - phavn, on 08/25/2008, -0/+9Doesn't calling them losers be a bit harsh? I don't think Lacey Rose could ever make it to Olympics.
- fenderjazz, on 08/25/2008, -1/+10Tyson Gay wasn't the one that botched the pass. What relay were they watching?
- xtothepowerofx, on 08/25/2008, -1/+9the forbes definition of being a loser apparently has nothing to do with athleticism or actually winning a medal in your event. Not living up to the media's hype does not equal failure in my eyes.
and does forbes not think i'm able to decide when to advance to the next image?... i mean if i found their page i'm obviously capable of navigating the internet. - Kakumeikeahi, on 08/25/2008, -0/+8Yeah, I'm kind of sickened by this whole article from focusing on "Losers".
They go through a lot to be even considered to enter the Olympics, when you get there your already the best of your nation. When the best of all these nations meet, some people will lose and some will take home medals. Why would anyone plaster any of those athlete's faces under the title "Beijing's Biggest Losers"?
I have the up most respect for each athlete that makes it to that platform, that alone is a major accomplishment. It's terrible to see any of them publicized in such a fashion. - duggynyc, on 08/25/2008, -0/+8Whoever choreographed the London bit at the closing ceremonies should be included.
- l31101, on 08/25/2008, -0/+7injured athletes shouldn't be on that list. only under-achievers.
- Coven, on 08/25/2008, -0/+7Why don't you have a seat right over here...
- IphtashuFitz, on 08/25/2008, -1/+7How about the biggest website losers? Like sites that have top ten lists with one item per page, forcing you to click through to ad-filled page after ad-filled page to see the whole thing. Then add to that a timer that by default automatically pages through them for you just ever so slightly faster than it takes you to read each page. Oh, and make sure the entire page has to reload so the whole thing flickers annoyingly each time.
Forbes really needs some decent web designers. - shipwreck58, on 08/25/2008, -0/+6Buried for multiple reasons including ***** interface, forbes.com being its host, and overall weak content.
- Vocklery, on 08/25/2008, -0/+6How are you sure of that? You've asked her?
You're actually describing what you would be happy with, not her. You would be happy with one gold medal you didn't win over the 3 lesser medals that you actually did win. You haven't the ubiquitous sentiment.
If that were me, I'd rather have what I actually earned. - tooker, on 08/25/2008, -0/+6indeed. her total point deductions from both falls (1.6 points) wouldn't have made up the difference (over 2 points).
- solboldi, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5Forbes is the biggest loser for bashing people that tried hard. Its not easy to get to the Olympics as an athlete. It is very easy to be a desk jockey publishing insults on the Web.
- MichaelEgan, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5Zhang Liang
http://olympics.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/11/two-c ... - cadmiumpaint, on 08/25/2008, -1/+6the biggest losers will be team China Gymnastics, when the IOC completes the investigation and they lose all their medals for being underage.
- l31101, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5wow, haven't heard about this one. Which competition was this? What's his name?
- serif69, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5Abracadabra!
- glenSM, on 08/25/2008, -0/+4Yeh I never understood why silver and bronze medals arent celebrated, its the olympics it would be epic to even be considered gettin in
- suckanucka, on 08/25/2008, -0/+4Quite irritating indeed...All to generate more page impressions and generate more revenue for banner advertising that does nothing for the advertiser. "Internet one point oh".
- Shady81, on 08/25/2008, -0/+4Gold, silver, bronze, zip... Whatever. I'd still hit that in a hot minute.
- Vocklery, on 08/25/2008, -0/+4I also resent how they interrupt the slideshow to demand a subscription to see the rest of it. Apparently, the advertising revenue just isn't enough for them.
Forbes = We talk smack about anyone for profit, because it's the money that's important, after all.
I would think a little compassion for these guys would be in order, instead of trying to publicly humiliate them for doing their best.
Up to now, I've been rather neutral to Forbes magazine, but finally, I detest it.
- Kenzan, on 08/25/2008, -0/+4My thoughts exactly.
- mecharabbit, on 08/25/2008, -1/+5A good, strong neck can help in certain situations that require rapid and repeated head movements...
- beerhound, on 08/25/2008, -0/+4I agree completely that an injured athlete shouldn't be on that list, you just can't judge them like that when you didn't see them at full strength. I also take issue with labeling anyone good enough to compete at the Olympic level a "loser". Certainly some of those coming from a country without the training programs and facilities to prepare their athletes don't have a chance to get out of the preliminary rounds don't have much of a chance to win, but they still deserve to be able to hold their heads high and take pride in being good enough to make it to the Olympics. There is no way that anyone good enough to make it to the medal round of an event is anything less than an elite competitor in that event. Did you notice that Forbes concentrated on the lost endorsement deal aspect? That says a lot about their understanding of Olympic Spirit. I'm glad some of these folks are good enough to make endorsement deals and get that reward, but I doubt many of them would choose the $ instead of a chance to compete for their country.
