http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2008/08/01/spor ... - EtherGnat, on 08/06/2008, -0/+21The BBC had a contest to design alternate logos. They were so much better than the official one: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/6723027.stm
- feureau, on 08/05/2008, -5/+23I look forward to the 3172 Robonia Olympic
- CobaltBlue, on 08/06/2008, -1/+14How can you not like a logo with lisa simpson blowing someone?
- megaton, on 08/06/2008, -3/+16Someone doesn't know how to spell "Olympics"...
(Look at the URL carefully.) - Appleboi4evr, on 08/06/2008, -4/+16¿ɹoɹɹıɯ
- bollywoodkibabe, on 08/05/2008, -2/+13the london logo sucks big time....
- NathanCH, on 08/06/2008, -2/+12...ever heard of the winter olympics? Because they missed every single one.
- Chemosabe, on 08/06/2008, -1/+9Epic BBC video about the 2012 logo:

(Yes, this is genuine) - AmyVernon, on 08/05/2008, -2/+10Nah, but there wasn't any for the 1984 games in Los Angeles, either...
- RegularJohn, on 08/05/2008, -1/+8amen to that!
- Glansbourg, on 08/05/2008, -14/+20No smog represented in the '08 version?
- metapop, on 08/05/2008, -2/+8i love olympic (and world cup, for that matter) posters & logos... this would have been even better if they were hi-res though.
- aIucard, on 08/06/2008, -0/+6Why is the London logo complete *****? It looks like crappy children's art work.
- kieranedling, on 08/06/2008, -3/+9Interesting. I'd love to see the winter logos
- gitrplaya4u, on 08/06/2008, -1/+7I'd probably digg it if I could see it =(
- krumel, on 08/05/2008, -2/+7Retrospective.
Nice. - thecoolestguy, on 08/06/2008, -0/+5Congratulations London for managing to make the ugliest logo in olympic history.
- RegularJohn, on 08/05/2008, -4/+9No, but there's that bloody chinese lad. http://www.vincentchow.net/1615/how-beijing-olympi ...
- HorseloverFat8, on 08/06/2008, -0/+4London, what the hell.
- krnldmp, on 08/06/2008, -0/+4In 1984 most cars on the road didn't have catalytic converters, Los Angeles didn't do anything special to limit smog. and Beijing was still worse on 6 Aug 2008. I've got nothing against the Chinese, but their government should spend a Lot more on pollution control. Shutting everything down as long as the games are there doesn't cut it.
- redfred18t, on 08/06/2008, -1/+5I cant see any logos... maybe it is from all the smog
- KaJuN4, on 08/06/2008, -0/+3All the Olympics logos from 1896 to 2012...and I only had to click once to see them all!!
- dbldn, on 08/05/2008, -2/+5Very cool collection...
- wwwdot1jesdotus, on 08/06/2008, -1/+3Haha. 2006 looks like a shower head.
- gamben0, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2I didn't realize they counted the ones missed for wars. I knew the numbers weren't adding up.
- vexationx, on 08/06/2008, -1/+3I see what you did there.
- otbeverly, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2The Rome logo with Romulus and Remus is interesting. Although I can't remember where, when or who created the sculpture of Rome's founders, but it's the same as the one in the logo. I can understand using its likeness, but not an exact copy or sketch. But it was 1956 and it is using Roman characters. It also seems to be right at a transition between traditional and more modern art. Some of the art deco period prints are pretty cool, though.
- wily6, on 08/06/2008, -1/+3Neat way of displaying them
- ajskhan, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2Sorry for commenting-jacking... but here is a zip of most (maybe all?) of the jpeg Olympic Logos.
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/52925/diggeffect.zip - Pyrorunner, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2Missed one.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Paris_1900_Olym ... - thecoolestguy, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2I think it looks like the cover for a cheesy dance album from the early 90's.
- nobody98, on 08/06/2008, -1/+3the logo for the sydney games is my favourite.
- theSshow, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2Woah... I think I was almost more impressed with the NYT's interface.
- bigpj, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2uh, missing both Calgary '88 and Vancouver 2010
- donsherio, on 08/06/2008, -2/+4Umm.. It should really specify that these are just the Summer logos.... Cause by saying "all" it would be implying that the winter ones would be in there too... which they are not. :D
- FoxFaction, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1Wow. There was a goatse logo, all while the music from "The Cheese Family" was playing. I'm almost in disbelief that was genuine it was so hilarious.
- PandarenLord, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1I'm sorry, but that's not wrong. (It's not English)
- ShadyATOMIC, on 08/06/2008, -2/+3Why London? I mean... why?
- venicerocco, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1Amazing that they had the internet back then in 1964. Tokyo IS advanced!
- donsherio, on 08/06/2008, -1/+2The Sydney torch is by far the most modern and stylish :P And would make a great Wii accessory
- donsherio, on 08/06/2008, -1/+2The Sydney torch is by far the most modern and stylish :P And would make a great Wii accessory
- andoru, on 08/06/2008, -1/+2An interesting tour through visual styles over the decades. Tokyo seems to be the first use of a logo that is designed to be comprised of simple recognisable elements (rather than a complex drawing/painting/block print). The Mexico-Munich-Montreal-Moscow logos look like typical trippy logos from 1960s and 70s - based on a geometrical concept. Things are starting to get cute in Seoul and Barcelona. While it seemed sleek and modern at the time, the Sydney 2000 logo does look a bit retro style now - it reminds me of someone's cheap home page where they used the same "trendy" font as everyone else so they could look cool. Athens and Beijing logos look up to date by modern standards, and have a visual style that would look at home in some web 2.0 site. Apparently, in the year 2012, the pinnacle of visual design will be MySpace.
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -1/+2Sydney, Athens and Beijing seem to be the best. The 2012 London one of Lisa giving someone a blow job is a joke, isn't it? Anybody?
- donsherio, on 08/06/2008, -2/+3The Sydney torch is by far the most modern and stylish :P And would make a great Wii accessory
- troon, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1The Japs are at the forefront of technology, as usual. The 1964 logo has a tooltip on it!
- Dugley, on 08/06/2008, -1/+2These would be the Summer Olympics logos and torches. Where's the ones for the Winter Olympics?
