- staple, on 08/20/2008, -3/+51Really points out the difference between eastern and western cultures. American athletes emphasize the importance of outdoing the guy next to them and proving things to themselves (and no one else). Ads feature Kobe or Lebron alone on the court or running suicides until they collapse - very personal struggles. Neither side is better or worse, just different.
- sweetwater88, on 08/20/2008, -2/+43With 1.3 billion people, you have to find the oddest of jobs for them.
- lorductape, on 08/20/2008, -8/+40Did adidias just endorse communism?
- Armor1901, on 08/20/2008, -5/+32Who cares what the ads supposedly support or don't, the fact is these are very creative and well done - can't we just enjoy art for what it is, regardless of whether or not it's done by an individual or a large corporation?
- WRE3, on 08/19/2008, -16/+41Isn't that an oxymoron? Meaning, a capitalist, big corporation like Adidas advertising what essentially boils down to communist propaganda for the "Peoples Republic of China"? Is this what Mao Tse Tung or Lenin envisioned? Oh well, just wanted to comment on the irony of it all. Adidas' bowing to our commie overlords!
- ZeeZee2k, on 08/20/2008, -4/+28yes they did, now to go make me a hotdog, ameilican!
- ABJ974, on 08/20/2008, -8/+27Simply stunning. These ads are truly great.
- smpx, on 08/20/2008, -1/+18China hasn't been "communist" for decades. It's an ideal that the people believe in, not the way the society is governed.
You know, like the way the U.S.A is a "democracy". - axisnate02, on 08/20/2008, -3/+15Yeah these ads totally don't appeal to communism at all /sarcasm
- alaw168, on 08/20/2008, -0/+11Liu has endorsement deal with Nike. He would be last to appear on an adidas ad.
- username7410, on 08/20/2008, -8/+17Creeps me out.
- cashmonkey, on 08/20/2008, -0/+8A capitalist economy isn’t zero sum. Far from it.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -3/+10Communist?? Anyone who thinks China is communist doesn't know WTF they are talking about.
These ads are amazing. - luke16, on 08/19/2008, -3/+9I'm surprised none of them feature Liu Xiang. That guy seems to be everywhere in Beijing.
- Hangingtree, on 11/04/2008, -0/+6Ayn Rand is rolling over in her grave.
I hope they did not bury her in her Adidas track suit. - mgenovese, on 08/20/2008, -3/+9If you look closely, you can see some socialism that crept into the advertising...
People's Republic of Sports. - KampfGherkin, on 08/20/2008, -1/+6Ha, You're apparently all wrong since combining elements from communism with elements from capitalism seems to be doing China a whole lotta good (the next superpower). The world is not black and white. It's just different shades of grey.
- cashmonkey, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5I agree but from a solely economic perspective capitalism clearly wins.
- smpx, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5Impossible is Nothing has been Adidas' international running motto for years. It's like Nike's "Just Do It". Seriously, don't YOU have google?
http://www.adidas.com/ - TheR3dMenace, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5Closely?
- ZeeZee2k, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5all the bootlegged version of adidas?
- Blicketization, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4@djoobaccadjoobacca you're a skilled copy paster..too bad you left out the last 30 years genius
- Shivatron, on 08/20/2008, -2/+6"Impossible is Nothing"? Seriously, don't they have Google at TBWA?

- Paulish, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Ra ra collectivism!
- 007kz, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4What he means is that China hasn't been "communist" for a while now- "a while" being almost 30 years. Well, technically speaking, neither the Soviet Union nor China where ever purely "communist" (since pure communism is basically impossible to achieve), but China has been going capitalist and kinda-sorta-slowly-awkwardly-babystep-democracy-ish ever since Deng Xiaoping.
- nephilimx, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4We dont even know the story behind the ads, for all we know that could be the family and locals under them. Which reflects the people who hold u you up.
- StanleyKoolPrik, on 08/20/2008, -2/+4Looks like the Chinese contingent of Digg doesn't like my assessment of the Adidas commercial. Too bad. Maybe you should get off Digg, stop acting like insects, and fight for your ***** human rights and instead.
- nikothefinn, on 08/20/2008, -6/+8Nice. Very nice.
- coljung, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2i wish we could get them Hi-Res
- NyteStarNyne, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2A-ha would be proud.
- flare1028us, on 08/20/2008, -1/+3These photos were in a photography annual I bought recently... they were stunning then and they're stunning now.
- NotOptium, on 08/20/2008, -2/+4When I come to Digg, I'm usually thinking: "You know what I haven't seen enough of today? Advertisements."
Thanks Digg! - curtisag, on 08/20/2008, -6/+8I disagree. Clearly the competitive side is better (ie capitalism > communism), otherwise China would still be the wasteland of poverty that it used to be. Competition promotes efficiency.
- Armor1901, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2I didn't get that from the ad at all. What I took away from it was that an entire nation is supporting the efforts of their representatives in the most challenging competition in the world.
- KampfGherkin, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2It's simply capitalism bowing to a market. Read: cash money whoring. Everything makes sense when you realise that the common denominator is profit. Not politics or allegiance to some seemingly illusory human ideals.
- NotOptium, on 08/20/2008, -1/+3I don't
- cyberdork, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Football is not a sports, it's pure entertainment. You know, like Monster truck races.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2India kinda fails this course of logic. India has been capitalist longer than china, yet is still a wasteland of poverty.
Socialism is good when it comes to building up heavy industry and developing infrastructure, from then on it is safe to move onto capitalist tendencies. Jumping straight into capitalism leads to india/Bangladesh/every african country-like scenarios. - monsterette, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1....these are absolutely wonderful, creative, and inspirational ads...
- fish0507, on 08/20/2008, -1/+2By digging this up you are giving Adidas free advertising, bring back the 90's... keep the corporations out, they stand for most oppression in 3rd world countries. Bury the story!
- dycc07, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1i didn't see it that way. more like, the people are supporting the athletes (literally) on their quest for Olympic glory.
- jlian, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1You are definitely trying too hard
- googleabcd, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Interesting, in China's internet forums, most netizens are blaming this AD because it looks like a huge number of giaours are bowing to the leaders of a CULT

..... - CaptainChad, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1Wish I could dig them twice.
- Jojoicb, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1Ummm, the diver doesn't even wear shoes....
- leerayIG88, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Now they need to be zombies trying to eat them. Now that would be much more awesome.
- Whitey07, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Not the best adverts I have ever seen, but still impressive.
