- doublejay1973, on 08/22/2008, -4/+33article is a slur on Jamaica. just because half of US team are banned for juicing doesn't give SI the right to cast aspersions over other countries. Wankers.
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -3/+29"We are Jamaica, we have a bobsled team"
Sorry. Carry on. - Cfahooligan, on 08/22/2008, -3/+21They are running away with it because we suck this year. And we don't have Marion Jones and her doped up body to win medals for us this time. It's a lot harder when you do it the old fashioned way.
- caruso, on 08/22/2008, -1/+18Because they're fast?
- samrum, on 08/22/2008, -2/+15There amazing over they're.
- TheWebSwinger, on 08/22/2008, -1/+14because all the slow ones are in jail!
heyoooo!
dammit, i'm half black. - inactive, on 08/22/2008, -0/+10Because Usain Bolt is FROM ANOTHER PLANET.
- danjal, on 08/22/2008, -3/+13Its simple.. there just that good.
- ldkronos, on 08/22/2008, -0/+9No mention of yams? Someone asked Bolt's father what he attribute's his son's success to and he said yams.
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2008/ ... - CerMakAlot, on 08/22/2008, -1/+10Just wait until the winter Olympics when you see their bobsled team. COOL RUNNINGS!!
- DIAF, on 08/22/2008, -0/+8some real youtube worthy comments in here.
- rahamm, on 08/22/2008, -0/+6Did you read the article reason number 3 was that THEY WEREN'T TRAINING IN US SCHOOLS and that THEY WERE STAYING HOME
- mattlohkamp, on 08/22/2008, -1/+7I think it was, "Jamaica, we got a bobsled team."
... and don't forget the best Swiss joke ever:
"...if one of those Swiss boys ever came across a pretty girl he would probably yell 'eins, zwei, drei' and try to push her down some ice!" - govsucks, on 08/22/2008, -2/+8Whatever the reason they have earned it. We have some pretty bad ass runners and they looked like they were standing still with those Jamaicans running the track. Bravo Jamaica, way to go. Oh and IOC, yes, he was a little boisterous about his victory, but he just beat MJ to become the fastest guy on Earth so STFU.
- FairDinkumMate, on 08/22/2008, -2/+8ABSOLUTELY!
It's disgusting that anyone would cast aspersions like this when there is absolutely not even a hint of anything to suggest this. Talk about poor losers!
It's even worse when the publication is from the USA, is written about Jamaica beating the USA & it is the USA that has a PROVEN record of doping. - frizzipazzi, on 08/22/2008, -0/+5Due to the new antidoping system now they can't smoke pot between the heats.
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -2/+7This is America. No one can beat us unless they cheat!
/sarcasm - caruso, on 08/22/2008, -0/+4uhh...
...fail? - reasonyousmile, on 08/22/2008, -0/+4I say it's because they're happy.
For whatever reason, they're just happy. I watched the women's hurdles, and the Jamaican (who won) smiled the biggest, brightest smile, blowing the camera kisses & waving hello with 'blinking' hands. She came with the best attitude.
The Americans could barely bat an eyelash towards the camera - they scowled or had this far-off look in their eye, like they were trying to be the Terminator or something. Terrible negative vibe.
Among equal-level competitors, attitude and mental state makes a HUGE difference. - inactive, on 08/23/2008, -0/+4Jamaicans aren't known for smoking anything.
- reddevild, on 08/22/2008, -0/+4FEEL THE RHYTHM!
FEEL THE RHYME!
GET ON UP,
IT'S BOBSLED TIME!
COOOOOOL RUNNINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - inactive, on 08/22/2008, -0/+3Uh... genetics?
- geffo, on 08/22/2008, -3/+6now that the drug cheats have been removed the rest of the world which couldn't afford designer roids, has a chance.
i do feel sad for the clean USA sprinters who were excluded because of the cheating and missed selection.
and the rest of the world that eventually thought the USA was invincible. - SreyaNotfilc, on 08/22/2008, -1/+4Is one of the reasons is the fact that they can hold on to the dadgone baton during relays?
- thanakar, on 08/22/2008, -1/+4you only need one reason, they are better!
- mizatt, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2Because we think people should be able to succeed athletically without sacrificing their long-term health to that degree
- Minivolt, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2The suits help in swimming. But I think you're jumping to the gun. If you're referring the Phelp, he only wore it in 3 races.
- humperdeath, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2#7: Clumsy Americans
#8: "some kind of voodoo doll" - inactive, on 08/23/2008, -0/+2Seriously. Where's the explanation for all the the US sprinters being Black?
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2Stop spamming Digg.
/buried, reported, then blocked. - hakluytbean, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2They're fast and they take it seriously: Jamaica Boys Champs 2007, 100m - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeTUkVz_cgg
- noots, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2i don't agree, Usain Bolt broke both world records - meaning no one has ever ran that fast in the olympics before, steroids or no steroids.
- richIsBored, on 08/22/2008, -3/+5They don't smoke as much?
- Bbau01, on 08/22/2008, -1/+3The US recruits down there, read the article they say that, and I lived there and saw it myself. Americans toss money at them like mad and fly them up. Why not take it. Not their fault USA kids pay for their own college, while scouts run down to Jamaica and pay all expenses for kids to go to school and train live for years.
- o0adam0o, on 08/22/2008, -1/+2No, because the good ones stayed in their country
- CKnight, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Ohs, thats whys.
- mrnoodles, on 08/22/2008, -4/+5They're Jamaicans but if the dumbass american college sport system is throwing money at them they'd be fools not to take it.
- SreyaNotfilc, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Did you know that some people say they know they can't believe that Jamaica has a bobsled team? I'm still in shock!!!
- Dinomight, on 08/22/2008, -1/+2The real reason why is because....
When they look in the mirror
They see Pride,
They see Power,
They see bad ass mothers who don't take no crap off of nobody - snowmonky, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1American athletes can't use steroids anymore. Unless there's another breakthrough in the steroid industry, the U.S. will start buying off Jamaicans.
- Prathik89, on 08/24/2008, -0/+1Planet exX
- Napiertt, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Steroids and other performance enhancing drugs can have serious negative effects on health. Pressuring athletes or creating an atmosphere that rewards doping will harm people in the long term. It will especially harm the younger people going into the sport if they think that they must use drugs to win. I remember some stories on kids using steroids because baseball players were using it; some ended up dead Doping should remain outlawed and severely punished.
Drugs and the body suit are very different. There's no analogy to be drawn there. - Bbau01, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Jamaica dominated the sprints so naturally some have to start tossing blame.
The best man and women won. And they were Jamaican. Yeah mon. - inactive, on 08/25/2008, -0/+0"We are not the same, I am a martian!"
- kvanderslice, on 08/22/2008, -1/+17) Not Michael Phelps.
- GuyBlaise, on 08/22/2008, -1/+1Usain Bolt is talented, but a true champion should show some respect for his opponents. It's called good sportsmanship. Unfortunately, as the Tuaregs of Mali say, "There is no school in
which someone can learn manners."
