- fxu1989, on 01/22/2009, -0/+16And then they're gonna bitch and moan when it's a big flop.
I will only blame whoever picked that logo. Personally, I liked the goatse-esque.

See how the hands grab and spread the 0, inviting everyone to come in... and how it hugs the 2, 1, and 2...
It's a much warmer logo compared to the current one that looks like Lisa giving a blowjob. - PrometheusZero, on 01/22/2009, -0/+11They should spent 400 million on fixing that logo.

Sports + national pride > our people's economic situation - tr0j, on 01/22/2009, -0/+6I am still hopeful they can afford Bill Bailey's version of the opening of the games, where a giant Yorkshire pudding descends in to the stadium and opens up to reveal the Queen sitting inside, and then her crown opens up and corgies leap out to fly around the stadium.
- montaverde, on 01/22/2009, -1/+6Everyone's trying to be like the USA! Bailouts are our thing, haven't you been watching the news? Talk to the hand.
- jjamminjon, on 01/22/2009, -0/+5Sounds almost as heavy as America?
- ratherred, on 01/22/2009, -0/+5The Olympics are apparently really ***** expensive.
- Jabb0, on 01/22/2009, -0/+5Too bad the world is going to end.
- mrnathan, on 01/22/2009, -0/+5actually they do have that right.
- mmittimm, on 01/22/2009, -0/+4Sacrifices are also an important part of life and sometimes you just have to make them. Leisure and entertainment are great and all, but when you put them up against the importance of national wellbeing they don't compare.
Oh, and at least i'm not a namecaller. - JoshChan, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3gotcha london
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3I'm glad Harper gave a firm "no" when vancouver came looking for more money.
- harris2004, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3Vancouver 2010 borrowed around 300+ millions to continue its Olympic bid. Looks like They didnt plan for the economic meltdown.
- mrnathan, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3Well we do already have the largest stadium in the world
... Although you're right ...
America does have the best taste money can buy (think about it ;) ) - error2k2, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2lol, when and where did he give such a brilliant idea?
I think Boris Johnson should be in a clown suit giving us funny quotes. "whiff-whaff", oh the laughs. - inactive, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2CAPS CAPS CAPS.
- montaverde, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1I don't watch the news! To quote a wise man, "Nah, they be putting a slant on that *****"
- maloconn, on 01/22/2009, -2/+3Better have a great return on investment.
- jabbajabba, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1del

- mrnathan, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1clearly you are the on who has not been watching the news :P
- skztr, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1The Olympics won't last forever. If you've lost your home because you've lost your job, guess what you'll want? Someplace to live.
in Atlanta, the "Olympic Village" housing built for the athletes was used as low-income housing pretty much immediately after the games ended. I used to work right next to these buildings, and though it was not the best neighborhood, it was certainly nice compared to the surrounding area. - charliecharlos, on 01/22/2009, -1/+2I don't know why you people are making such a big deal. It's not a bailout (buzz word of the year much?), this is normal and always done. Every country forks over money in order to hold the Olympics or the World Cup, and in turn receives a hefty sum from their respective international committees in order to build infrastructure. The city itself, or country if it's smaller like England, makes an immense amount of money due to tourism and is positively affected for decades thanks to holding such events.
And for those bitching that they should cancel them because of the money, shut up, the Olympics started AND are held in order to promote peace, hope, and unity in the world, something that I'm pretty sure we need a lot of right now. And those who say no one watches them, shut the *****, just because the US doesn't care about international sports and the rest of the world, doesn't mean the world should follow suit. - ssj2119, on 01/22/2009, -1/+2I've never heard the word "Bailout" so much in history
- drgmdp, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1the word of the year
- ZelleyB, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1And after the athletes leave, there will be fresh new housing for somebody.
- mrnathan, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1they have that right too. You just don;t like them doing it I think is what you're trying to say :p
- borez, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1I was shouting, don't get me wrong.
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -1/+2yup. Just like the olympics brought peace and human rights to China.
- bluewithinblue, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1Please sort that ***** logo out.
- ZelleyB, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1Interesting debate, but pointless.
The investment of funds for structures is reasonable,
provides jobs and more taxes, the games will result in
increase in tourism thus helping the economy and
the beat goes on, and after every rain cloud and rain
there are rainbows and sun.
Some folks like to stand in the rain and complain,
others enjoy the benefits of the rain then enjoy the sunshine that follows. - jabbajabba, on 01/22/2009, -2/+2"The government released 496 million pounds from the 2 billion-pound contingency fund, with the bulk, 326 million pounds, going to the athletes' village."
Nice!
Someone works for years paying huge amounts of tax to then have the misfortune of losing their job as an indirect consequence of others taking irresponsible risks. Subsequently they lose their home and have to move the family into a one room *****, but at least during the process he can feel assured that the tax money taken from his pockets has gone towards helping a bunch of athletes wallow in luxury and comfort at their ‘athletes village’.
***** BAILOUTS! - borez, on 01/22/2009, -1/+1I meant to say frivolously chucking money down the toilet, but I guess it didn't come across that way.
- usetabs, on 01/22/2009, -1/+0well why ya shouting at us for?
- skztr, on 01/22/2009, -1/+0Yeah, how dare a global power do something to look good in the eyes of the global community when they should be focusing on things which will help the economy, like programs to help trade and global commerce!
- spyd3rweb, on 01/22/2009, -3/+2Should have just canceled the Olympics instead. Its ***** worthless and I don't know why anyone watches it.
- rocke86, on 01/22/2009, -3/+1The world is going to be very different by then, plan on very high security. Cameras at every angle and every other seat a police officer to eliminate talking because it can relay terrorist information.
- borez, on 01/22/2009, -8/+3NO MORE ***** BAILOUTS.
WE ( THE PUBLIC ) DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THEM, AND YOU ( THE GOVERNMENTS) HAVE NO RIGHT TO SPEND OUR MONEY, OUR CHILDREN'S MONEY, AND OUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN'S MONEY. NO MATTER WHAT THE ***** CAUSE.
PERIOD.
