- sockpuppets, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Of course you forget, Webtickle. I was present at an undersea unexplained mass sponge migration.
- newsheatdotcom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It looks like the invasion worked! They've overtaken the site and are now clogging our intertubes!

- AlphaEta, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2FTA: "What makes box jellyfish particular dangerous is that, unlike other jellyfish, box jellyfish are able to power their way through the water at up to four knots (as fast as a small boat)."
Apparently I'm an idiot, because I don't understand how a fast swimming speed makes these little bastards more dangerous.
How hard can it be to dodge a friggin' jellyfish?- zyl0x, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8How hard can it be to dodge a friggin' small boat?
- pbaehr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Keep in mind they are transparent and can have 10' long tentacles. It's like trying to dodge an invisible tangle of string...moving at 4 knots.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14"How hard can it be to dodge a friggin' jellyfish? "
I imagine that it would be rather challenging but not impossible.
Now, try to dodge 1000 of them... - noahhoward, on 10/11/2007, -1/+44 knots is probably as fast as many people can swim. Also, most jelly fish seem to drift rather than propel themselves, there is more threat of them running into you rather than you running into them.
- Namco, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Dodge this... *BAM*
- nickerbocker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If you can dodge a small boat you can dodge a ball.

- hilomike, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I live on the Big Island of Hawaii, and this is surprising. The reports are from the island of Oahu, mainly on Waikiki Beach, which is a huge tourist attraction; for the long sand beach and the beach front shopping.
City & County of Honolulu - Box Jellyfish Information Page
http://www.co.honolulu.hi.us/esd/oceansafety/boxjellymainpage.htm
"Box Jellyfish are very common in all water bodies and regularly swarm to Hawaii's South and West Shores 8 to 10 days after the full moon. Box Jellyfish "Carybdea alata" cause the most "trouble" for humans in Hawai`i. Don't go into areas where sighted, or if dead ones are seen on the beach. Observe all posted warning signs. Symptoms of a sting include stinging, burning, redness, swelling of lymph nodes and in cases of severe reactions may result in difficulty with breathing, symptoms of shock and cardiac arrest."
Our last full moon was on May 2, so this shouldn't be a surprise visit. However, that's an unusually large quantity of sightings. - snurfle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Dugg for the use of the word "invading".

dang.. it didn't catch it. oh well.. looks like it is in the process of being buried as inaccurate anyway - dontknowmuch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0It's back up, not sure why it was flagged as inaccurate.
- misterhat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0It is kinda gross, fastest, most effective method of stoping the pain from a jellyfish sting is urinating on it. I've heard any warm liquid works, but piss is usually the easiest thing available.
I'm serious, I've used it on myself the 2 times I've been stung by those little buggers (though I dont think we get box jellyfish in socal. Ill have to check)- SocialPoison, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Only on Digg will you find people proudly admitting they've pissed on themselves.
- adethier, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0looks verified to me:
