The 9 Worst Trends of 2007
doubleviking.com — There's been a lot of annoying crap that's emerged this year, from celebrity rehab fads to "The Daily Show" being in indefinite repeats. But neither of these things found a place on DoubleViking.com's list of "The 9 Worst Trends of 2007
- 766 diggs
- digg it
- Nightlie, on 11/14/2007, -26/+3Drugs isn't cool anymore? ='(
- burstaneurysm, on 11/14/2007, -1/+33Neither is grammar, apparently.
- sterntastic223, on 11/14/2007, -0/+16Also clearly he followed the TL;DR trend with that comment
- doctechnical, on 11/14/2007, -2/+2Why do you think they call it "dope"?
- MikeyisaFag, on 11/14/2007, -10/+27Am I the only one who noticed two of the things on the list, "lists" and "TLDR" prevention are actually present in the article?
- LaueOfficer, on 11/14/2007, -0/+22No, you aren't, but apparently what you did NOT notice was that the author comments about how he notices it too and how ironic it is.
- worldsbestgamer, on 11/14/2007, -2/+7This list is *****. Ask snopes. http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/jenkem.asp
- tyywebb, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3I'm all for idiots breathing in their own ***** whether it gets them high or not.
- mikesbaker, on 11/14/2007, -19/+18the troofer movement is the worst IMO
- jamesmcm, on 11/14/2007, -5/+32TL;DR isn't a new phrase. 2007? It's been used for years.
- dicerandom, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1Indeed. If the Wayback Machine weren't misbehaving right now I would search it and pull up some ancient (I'm guessing ~'99-ish) references.
- bagelpirate, on 11/14/2007, -4/+22FTA: "TL;DR; It's a new phrase that's emerged this year"
It's been around a lot longer than this year.- gherikill, on 11/13/2007, -3/+8I prefer FRAT -***** reading all that
- TrogdorSmash24, on 11/14/2007, -9/+14How many truthers does it take to screw in a light bulb?
- nblsavage, on 11/14/2007, -2/+2depends on the size of the light bulb.
- Graves138, on 11/14/2007, -16/+16I love the fact that the word "truth" has been demonized. That is, without a doubt, one of the single greatest propaganda master strokes ever.
- dagnabbit, on 11/14/2007, -7/+29It's only been demonized because the crowd that adopted the word as its label is a bunch of ***** idiots.
- Devotia, on 11/14/2007, -2/+5I really hate those vague-noun-that-has-nothing-to-do-with-what-they-actually-stand-for...ers.
- doctechnical, on 11/14/2007, -2/+9Personally, I prefer the term "Troofer". It has a certain... anti-gravitas.
- Chirp08, on 11/14/2007, -7/+3why the ***** is his comment dugg down? Seriously the worst trend of 2007 is people down-voting every ***** comment they can for no reason. I'm tired of seeing intelligent comments, comments that contain facts, comments that are genuinely funny down-voted because some tool who can't contribute ***** to the topic at hand..
- saisumimen, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1That's been going on WAY before 2007. Get your facts straight.
- dagnabbit, on 11/14/2007, -7/+29It's only been demonized because the crowd that adopted the word as its label is a bunch of ***** idiots.
- doctechnical, on 11/14/2007, -3/+37THAT'S NOT A LIGHTBULB, CLEARLY IT'S A CONTROLLED IMPLOSION!!1!
- wrongonce, on 11/13/2007, -2/+1Oh, you'd just looove me to screw that light bulb in. Wouldn't you?
I tell you what; screw you! - Urusai, on 11/14/2007, -2/+11None...IT WAS AN INSIDE JOB!!!! WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!!
- Tetraca, on 11/14/2007, -1/+4Four thousand. One to say that the lightbulb can not possibly glow as bright as it does with such a thin fillament, one to record it and upload it to youtube, and the rest to believe it.
- kutateli, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2two, but i don't know how they would get in there
- Bamont, on 11/14/2007, -9/+20Personally, I find great amusement listening to Rosie preach about 9/11. Especially considering she's incapable of formulating a complete sentence via her blog, and anytime someone called her out on The View - she had them removed from the audience.
- edd17, on 11/14/2007, -2/+10i'd like her to explain why it was physically impossible, she is obviously a forensic engineer
- stinkybrinker, on 11/14/2007, -3/+51Is wearing dead rats really a trend?
- danielsan1701, on 11/14/2007, -2/+1Not sure that it's what they are going for, but it would seem to be an excellent anti-fur statement or parody/satire of people who wear fur.
- queenstarsha, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1yes. i dated a punkish guy a few years ago who really loved necklaces made from the skulls of weird roadkill. the point is that you transcend disgust, i think.
- aduzik, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1I don't think any of these things are trends or, in the case of things like lists and TL;DR, new trends. But brace yourselves, kids, as the year winds down, expect a whole ***** of these stupid "2007 in review" lists.
- FreshWes, on 11/14/2007, -7/+8the only trend that sucks is making lists about trends
- davidlow, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4No, what sucks even more is commenting about lists about trends.
- kutateli, on 11/14/2007, -15/+30TLDR
- LaueOfficer, on 11/14/2007, -1/+26Wow, did anyone else see that coming? nah, totally creative.
- exomni, on 11/14/2007, -6/+28Ugh, didn't bother reading this ***** because there's only one trend that truly sucks: making Lists in place of actual essays and real journalism.
- Shade00a00, on 11/14/2007, -8/+18Ironically, being a list, this article is also one of the bad trends of 2007.
- tsaxer, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3Wow, the author said the same thing! You two must be like, psychic or something!
- chaos7, on 11/14/2007, -4/+10add the phrase "not so much" to this list please!
- Unlgued, on 11/14/2007, -5/+6And ***** ron paul.
- KevinRoseMustDy, on 11/14/2007, -4/+3and Jesus.
- SonicRush, on 11/14/2007, -2/+4And how about the phrase "not gonna lie..." That one got popular last year, and now it's just frickin annoying
- queenstarsha, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2that's a figure of speech!?? i thought my sister was being dishonest when she used this once. it's like when people say "honestly..." it made me wonder what she was telling me the rest of the time if she was "not gonna lie" about whatever it was.
- Balath, on 11/14/2007, -2/+20I thought Jenkem was a hoax. In fact, I was convinced the whole list was satirical after reading the first four.
- Pureeviljester, on 11/14/2007, -2/+14ah "retard rap"! now i know what to call it, thanks!
- Midvicious, on 11/14/2007, -1/+1You mean you just figured it out?
- Radian, on 11/14/2007, -3/+4"Retard Rap" = redundant.
- mess7777, on 11/13/2007, -4/+2With regards to the comments above, they should add to list of crappy trends ; "Thinking it is cool that you knew TLDR before 1 year ago"
- Uranium118, on 11/14/2007, -3/+30UGG boots.
- dorkino, on 11/14/2007, -0/+13These are mere hand-me-downs in 2007. They hit their popularity peak a few years ago.
- ChromaVita, on 11/14/2007, -0/+17Crocs
- queenstarsha, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2those sucked already in '04.
- king3vbo, on 11/14/2007, -2/+16Those guys put Jenkem on the list! LOL!
...you do realize its a hoax, right?- Balath, on 11/14/2007, -0/+7Aha! That was my reaction, but then I thought, "Maybe that it's a hoax is the hoax."
- burstaneurysm, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3The fact that one of Jenkem's street terms is "Leroy Jenkims" kinda gave it away for me...
- crackedplastic, on 11/14/2007, -0/+19Another crap article from DoubleViking trying to imitate Cracked.com. Get some better writers and a fresh perspective and perhaps things might take off.
- BlackJackJester, on 11/14/2007, -2/+8Rosie talking about physics = win.
- moskaudancer, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2The situation is win (because of the lulz). She herself is phail (because of the idiocy).
- iHippie, on 11/13/2007, -0/+4What a douchenozzle.
- ronaldinho, on 11/13/2007, -1/+3TL;DR is such an annoying phrase......better not use it unless one article takes half an hour to read. Otherwise you are just a lazy ignorant obnoxious son of a gun. I bet those people are the ones listening to retard rap too
- Bahimiron, on 11/14/2007, -3/+2So a half an hour is your top out for article length?
Avoid college.- andshewas, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1Avoid anything worth reading. War & Peace took me three weeks. Guess thats too long for most.
- queenstarsha, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1sadly, yep. wayyyy tl;dr.
- andshewas, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1Avoid anything worth reading. War & Peace took me three weeks. Guess thats too long for most.
- Bahimiron, on 11/14/2007, -3/+2So a half an hour is your top out for article length?
- f4nt0m4s, on 11/14/2007, -0/+34I have an annoying trend/complaint.
What the ***** is up with all these "text to chat", "text to win your prize" or "text for ringtone" crap I see on MTV or at 3 in the morning on Comedy Central these days. I mean, phone sex I can kind of understand, but if you are texting a "hot" phone girl to get off you need to kill yourself. And seriously, all the ringtones you can get are for really ***** rap songs. What the hell is going on? Are people stupid enough to text for this crap?- sgtpppr, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Well, you've hit the bottom of the sex crazed barrel when you are texting an unknown person for $.25 a message or some crazy *****. I bet that not only are there zero chicks actually doing the messaging, but in most cases it is a chat bot. They must be making money though since they spend a ***** on commercials. The VC money would be out by now if they were simply mass marketing with no user base.
- def1234, on 11/13/2007, -0/+0does it really grind your gears?
- seandfeeney, on 11/14/2007, -1/+6crocks...
- PURPLEDRINK, on 11/14/2007, -5/+10ronpaul 08.. tehe
- Balath, on 11/14/2007, -4/+1damn spambot ¦-)
- DesignerScott, on 11/13/2007, -1/+2I'm sorry I missed that, what was #4?
- Lennalf, on 11/14/2007, -6/+6Daily Show repeats are a direct result of the Writer's Guild strike. How does that qualify as a "trend"? It's not like TDS started airing repeats just a little more each week... THAT would be a trend. You know... a gradual change. Google -> define: trend. kthxbye
- joejoesick, on 11/14/2007, -1/+7Uhh, the Daily Show was running repeats this year LONG before the writer's strike...
For a while it seemed like they were on one week, then in repeats the next. Now we all know to look for the date in the opening credits. No date listed = not a new show...- justanotherday, on 11/13/2007, -1/+1You, uh, just figured that out?
How long has the show been on the air now? Like 10 years?- Rabbethan, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1Don't digg him down, he's right.
- justanotherday, on 11/13/2007, -1/+1You, uh, just figured that out?
- joejoesick, on 11/14/2007, -1/+7Uhh, the Daily Show was running repeats this year LONG before the writer's strike...
- cmpshotty, on 11/14/2007, -1/+4I'll admit, I had to go to dickchop.com... then I got scared and closed the tab.
- jon02129, on 11/14/2007, -1/+3I'm scared to even attempt to go there.
- cawfee, on 11/14/2007, -1/+0Being the curious bastard that I am, I visited the site but the video's apparently down, and there are no mirrors for it to be found. Not that we missed anything of value, really.
- bankhead, on 11/14/2007, -3/+3worst trends of 2007 - lists
wtf are they promoting - a list! - highps3, on 11/14/2007, -7/+5This was REALLY lame. Did the writer really think she was funny?
BURY - astrotrain, on 11/13/2007, -5/+5Apple's iPhone.... it was a happening scene... people standing outside for hours if not days to spend their house, car payments on...until real life smacked them in the face. They just spent $600 for a paperweight... since AT&T could not handle the volume of iPhones that wanted to be activated. Then double body blow when Apple lowered the price, and stated they were sorry, and only offered a month free service instead of the refund of difference of price.
And what was even funnier, the Mayor of Filthadelphia (Street) had his posse out with him while he waited in line for an iPhone. A local news station confronted him, asking if they were on the tax payers clock while they sat in line, and with a "oops...didn't expect that question" look on the mayors face, and they ran away from the media to their awaiting caravan of vehicles. - Chizz44, on 11/13/2007, -1/+2That list was not a good look.
- xsquirrel378x, on 11/14/2007, -1/+11#1 worst trend: THE INTERNET
the internet has turned from a valuable source of good information into a social disaster of blogging, networking, spamming.... riot of *****- moskaudancer, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2That's since the beginning of September, and not just this year.
- Lobstertacular, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1It's Web 2.0!
- Chizz44, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2"riot of *****" - THAT was a good look!
- mlvassallo, on 11/14/2007, -0/+10I would like to add a 10th please. Digging anything that is published on DoubleViking.com.
- Nick519, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2i'd like to amend your submission by adding "or Cracked.com".
- COinOR, on 11/14/2007, -0/+6dugg for #6 & #7 - i'm tired of celebrities thinking their opinions increase in validity simply because they're famous
- rlvis, on 11/14/2007, -2/+4dugg for retard rap
- kuzotz, on 11/14/2007, -2/+3"stuck up idiots are possibly the worst people on the face of the earth... which is why LA is so ***** annoying. "
That has to be my favorite part of the list..- queenstarsha, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1thanks for pointing it out. ironically, i initially skimmed over the end of the TLDR part of the list.
- owanderhoffe, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2buried for not being true and therefore not being funny
- meik, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2OMG, cant stand that retard rap *****.
- whymanwhy, on 11/14/2007, -1/+9OH LAWD IS DAT SUM JENKEM
- saisumimen, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2What's really sad is that a certain website pretty much got the ball rolling on that entire "craze". I fear they have gotten too powerful.
- ryzic, on 11/14/2007, -2/+0tldr
- doshindude, on 11/14/2007, -3/+3dugg for retard rap.
youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu- juicebag, on 11/14/2007, -3/+1SUPASOAK DAT HO
- daxsymbiont, on 11/14/2007, -1/+20) giving a flying ***** about paris hilton.
- guinnessstout, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3I'd like to add this list to it's self.
- blaze4metal, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4"These are all 'awareness' films... they're basically the moving pictures version of an AIDS ribbon -- they serve to get you talking... and little else."
Because we should always be annoyed when we have to think for ourselves about an issue. - juicebag, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2All of the things the listed either aren't nearly as prevalent as they say or aren't anything new to 2007.
- bizsumpark182, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2#2 FTW!
- Sterango, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2I've never heard of the phrase "thats a good look" and "retard rap" is a great way to describe that ***** that RETARD teenagers are listening to and completely dumbing themselves down with. DIS IS Y IM HOT, DIS IZ Y IZ HOT YO, lol, kids seriously need a clue, but mroe importantly, MTV needs to be shut the ***** down to stop this flow of mass retardation
- ronintetsuro, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1Daily Show is 'annoying crap'?
Buried as inaccurate. - bingobongony, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2#1 Double Viking's constant gaming of the Digg algorithm with paid diggers to get their dumb ass ***** on the front page.
