Japan's oldest person, Yone Minagawa, turns 114+
breitbart.com — Japan's oldest person, Yone Minagawa, turned 114 on Thursday, celebrating her birthday at the Keijuen special nursing home in Fukuoka Prefecture where she now resides. Born in 1893 in Fukuchi in the southwestern Japan prefecture, she was widowed early and raised her five children by selling flowers and vegetables in a coal mining town...

- mooatr, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14I attribute the longevity of old Japanese women to their diet. During the war you see, many of their diets were rationed to basically rice, fish, and seaweed. Brilliant foodstuffs.
- NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24The war wasn't that significant a fraction of 114 years, but the asian diet does indeed have it's benefits. Lots of veggies.
- TheRingmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I think the Japanese diet in general contributes to their longevity, but what they ate for 7 years out of 114 probably didn't have much of an impact outside of sustaining the regular healthy eating she most likely practiced
edit: damn posted right after nanostuff - nikkesen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Every bit of Japanese food I've ever tried was insanely oishi.. so, I can see why they would stick to the same diet for 114 years.
- foobar5892, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8How the ***** do you turn 114+? Is that like turning 31.4156 or 27.182?
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They're not sure exactly when she was born, but they know she's at least 114.
- AllnightChemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The country with one of the highest life expectancy rates and one of the highest in number of smokers, too. The only thing that can stop them is Godzilla!
- JesusIsSatan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I attribute the Japanese longevity to the atomic bombs we dropped on them. The radioactivity has made them into superhuman mutants.
- sion2119, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2big deal, I seen 149.
- tralalaa, on 10/12/2007, -20/+5I wonder if she still has sex.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3Um.....I'd hit it?
- CraigB12, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4No question mark.... I'D HIT IT! Thats bragging rights right there.
- NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I hope I'm hip enough when past 130 to grab the attention of a young gal like her.
- Ninjab3ar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@tralalaa
from the article: "While she now spends a lot of time in bed..."
Yeah, I think she does. - quakeIII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Between Fukuoka and Fukuchi, we can only imagine that the answer is a definate yes.
- tralalaa, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Hypocrites for marking me down. As if you don't wonder the same thing..
- Scopitone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14We need to find out what in the hell is causing all of our planets oldest residents to die off like this!
- popfrogs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The human race isn't socially responsible enough to fill this planet with 114 year-old people. I really hope this woman is the exception rather than the rule in the future.
- ptrcd003, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4She didn't die.
- NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15And here's to 114 more years.

- CiXeL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5when i was young my grandmother used to see an incredibly old person and say "when i get that old im gonna take a poison pill"
she died last month at 93 years old and wildly delirious, didnt recognize us and saw people in the corners of the room and crazy stuff like that.
the thing she didnt realize is that age creeps up on you and your brain wont function enough to even think about taking a poison pill by the time you get there.
my plan is this, i dont want to be a burden to my future children so at a specific age i have full intentions to go full out risktaker. try to go out with a bang not a whimper. - popfrogs, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4It was your responsibility to supply the poison pill. You failed. -1.

- meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8How do you turn 114+?
I could understand if she was 114 and 1/2, but she just TURNED 114. So I guess you COULD have made this more interesting by saying she was 115-?- Aiwanei, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I know what you are saying but she was only 114 for only nanosecond in time then she was 114 and 1 nanosecond so maybe that is what they mean, I dunno.
- 2ltkap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree if you are listed as being age 114 + one nanosecond it makes sense in a odd sort of way, If you use age 115- it then applies to every living person. unless of course somebody is 115 or as we would put it 116-
- sovereign3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For someone who is around that old (no malice intended), it's likely few public records exist to verify her actual age. So 114 is probably the oldest that her age can be verified.

- Gunsmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1reading this made me smile, o-tanjoubi omedetou Yone san
- mindsnare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's amazing, just seeing that date of birth flips me out, 1893, incredible
- crapol, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0ow that is so old, i really hope i live that long
- iamnos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4And here is the world's oldest person:

She lives in my city! - adikt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3chronological age is irrelevant, sustainable positive quality of life is what is important.
- STEEVO3MT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'd hit it.
- ZeroMP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I definately would NOT hit it. I mean, look at those sharp knees. She is well below my standards.
That aside - this site is great, only it would be better if they could somehow fit in some more ads.
The 4 in text ads are hardly enough for this very short article, I'm sure there are more words they could have used as advertising.
- ZeroMP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I definately would NOT hit it. I mean, look at those sharp knees. She is well below my standards.
- joevill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't know if I would want to live that long. I would hate to see my friends and family pass on around me for so long. I just see it as a curse. Hmmm... maybe not! I would finally be able to catch up on all these video games I have been buying! ;)
- tuartboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didn't realize that was all that unusual as my family has a history of longevity. I had a great great aunt who died a few years ago at 109. Her daughter was in her 80's and mowed their lawn with a push mower! We used to go up to Traverse City, MI to visit them every year and she was still walking until the last 2 or 3 years.
- JesusIsSatan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some woman from Mass. died a few days ago at 112. You never hear of a man living that long. Women nag men to early graves.
- muzikicon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Every person that gets credited with being the worlds oldest person always seems to end up dead. Its like its a curse or something :-)
- whickywhickyjim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Go Minigawa, it's your birthday
