gizmodo.com — If there's anything these big boys like more than their big deadly toys are the models. And I'm not talking about the blonde russian booth babes.

- dunderballer, on 11/15/2007, -3/+27I heard there were some Dubai booth babes with see-through hijabs. In the right light, you could see some face.
- mydigga, on 11/14/2007, -5/+4That's just mean, man... why can't I stop laughing?
- aliengoods, on 11/15/2007, -3/+12Watch out! Dubai is going to attack us with their itty-bitty planes.
- ElAssoWipo, on 11/15/2007, -1/+18Dubai booth babes are so sexy, they'll even show you their ankles for a few hundred bucks.

- blackmage439, on 11/15/2007, -3/+2Fascinating. Anyone have information on what country flies that "omnirole" fighter?
- Torpov, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2Looks like a Dassault Rafale from the stuff around it, and Dassault is French. So I would say that France flies it from my powers of deduction.
- erkokite, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3It is indeed the Dassault Rafale, which is flown by France. The Rafale is branded as "Omni-Role," in order to distinguish it from "multi-role" fighters, which have primary and secondary capabilities.
- Lane, on 11/15/2007, -9/+16It may be in Dubai but its a lot of USA tech.
- fcukbush, on 11/14/2007, -3/+2They get your weapons and you get thier oil.... what a lovely world we live in.

- 01l0, on 11/14/2007, -17/+7How many of those digging this story can appreciate the reality of its content? Imagine what could be accomplished If the money used to create, build, and purchase these instruments of genocide were instead put to humanitarian use...

- sovereign3, on 11/14/2007, -1/+6Interestingly enough, some of those "tools of genocide," can be used for humanitarian purposes. How do you think the US Navy was able to rescue those in the Indonesian tidal wave? How else would those in the Katrina would have been rescued without military aircraft? Furthermore, with weapons such as those aircraft, we can use them against those who engage in genocide. Do you think we'd have any chance at putting an end to genocide in Darfur without helicopters? For those aircraft, it's all about application and these days many aircraft are being put to use in non-lethal and humanitarian ways.
- mookiemookie, on 11/14/2007, -1/+5I doubt the suitability of a 1/32 scale plastic model as an instrument of genocide.
- 01l0, on 11/14/2007, -5/+2You know what those plastic models are used for right? Advertising the full-scale product. This is what I mean when I question whether Diggers appreciate the reality of what's being shown.
- mrgreenjeans9, on 11/14/2007, -5/+1don't sweat those digging you down man, you're right on.
THIS is the military-industrial complex that eisenhower warned us about
/and that black sabbath sang about in 'war pigs' - toxicshok, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1Yeah, some friggin cool weapons.

- t3hprogrammer, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1I hope the people buying 100 million dollar planes aren't swayed by a scale model of the product. When you are going to spend a couple billion dollars on something, you should be thoroughly investigating it. The interested parties probably contracted the plane before they designed it so it meets their specifications. It's not like you wouldn't know about a new project in a field where millions of dollars are spent.

- HousePlaya, on 11/14/2007, -1/+3Yeah, I'm sure Nazi Germany or Japan would of been quite pleased if we had invested in humanitarian aid instead of you know, preventing them from taking over the world and what not. Oh wait, I get it, we could provide aid to the oppressed instead of bothering with the messy business of stopping the oppression. Everybody wins.
- 01l0, on 11/14/2007, -4/+0Welcome to 2007. You'll notice quite a few things have changed.
- designerutah, on 11/14/2007, -0/+5"instruments of genocide"? Wow, you don't get out much do you? Do you know what the number one tool of genocide is? Religion. Yes, that's right, religion. Most genocides have been committed by religions that espouse kindness to others people, just not THOSE people. The "military industrial complex" that you seem to hate wouldn't exist at all if the market (i.e., the need driven by differences in populations) didn't exist. Until you can iron that out, the "military industrial complex" won't stop making machines. And just so you know, MOST of those machines won't be used in actual warefare. And of the ones that are, MOST won't be involved in genocide. Some will be involved in humanitarian efforts. Others will be used to protect (or defend) people's right to live. Only a very small percentage MAY be involved in genocide. I'm sure some will be involved in killing, maybe even most. And you are free to say that all killing is wrong and the money could be better spent. But once you face someone who wants to kill you, take away your choices, and you realize that no amount of begging or pleading will change their desire, then you decide to defend yourself or you become a victim. I prefer to create the capacity to defend myself. Yes, it can be used wrongly. The same is true of many "humanitarian" efforts. Most things can be used to damage rather than help. That doesn't mean the object is bad, or the science and engineering that went into is wasted. Just that the use of it, like any other tool, depends on the men and women behind it. When you can guarantee the men and women will do all they can to have peace, to get along, the "military industrial complex" will transform into a more altruistic mechanism. Until then, this is the result.
Oh yeah. And for the record, when I read "instruments of genocide" the first time, I laughed... sounded so much like a characterization of "beatnik" or "60s communist cartoon" that I couldn't help myself. And then of course, I thought of a big control room, with lots of dials and levers, and a big one labeled "Instrument of Genocide" with some funky modern art instrument in the recording booth.
Additionally. Why would any sane person want to put money into "humanitarian efforts" when most of the resulting money goes into the "warlords" pockets?- 01l0, on 11/14/2007, -3/+0The way you put "military-industrial complex" in quotations strongly implies that you are unfamiliar with the definition of the term. Let me just add that just because I don't soil myself at the sight of scale-models of multi-billion dollar military hardware destined to bomb third-world countries into dust, doesn't imply that I'm against just and necessary warfare.

- KingCook, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4Try before you buy ?
- gutterboy, on 11/15/2007, -2/+6Um, those models are pretty average. The detail is not that high (in regards to claiming "most amazing ever") Here are some properly detailed models - http://www02.exoto.com/Collectibles/index.asp Exoto has some fantastic models.
- NormalVisual, on 11/15/2007, -0/+0Even beyond that, check out the galleries at http://www.missing-lynx.com . It's exclusively military-oriented, but there are some seriously incredible examples of real talent there.

- insonh, on 11/15/2007, -2/+16I fought in the "Model War's"
I “hand” flew a F-22 Raptor at the battle of Dubai
There I was, arm out stretched holding my F-22 Raptor, the glue was barely dried before my squadron was called to full alert
Our mission: to fly across the exhibition hall and bomb the competitions display table.
I was squad leader call sign “Maverick” and my wing man was “Goose” McCoy from accounting who happened to be on this trip.
As we zeroed in on our objective we climbed to just over our heads for a good angle of attack our engines and arms straining to gain more altitude.
WWWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH! I kicked in the after burners with Goose on my tail. We narrowly missed one of the product models coming back from the coffee stand , that look she gave us as we screamed by told us she knew we might not be coming back
As we lined up for final decent I hear Goose scream that he had and enemy fighter at his 6:00 and coming up fast
It was Larry the sales guy from our competitor along with the new kid he brought with him.
Gooes was screaming and I had to think fast so I banked hard left at the exit sign and did a half barrel roll coming up in back of the new kid and I let him have it
DA!DA!DA!DA!DA, my guns poured out an imaginary stream of hot lead into his canopy but he effused to go down
He said I didn’t get him
Two more model planes from another company that just got bought by Larry’s company joined the fight as I pulled hard left narrowly missing the security guard next to the evit..
I could hear Goose screaming …I’m Hit! I’m Hit!...i turned just in time to see him burst into a hundered pieces as he plane crashed into one of the halls support columns.
I was all alone now as I watch the wreckage from Gooses plane fall to the ground and my last image of him was as he was walking off in the direction of the hot dog stand for an early lunch.
I never felt so alone as 4 Mig 25 interceptors made by Larry’s company slowly circled me hoping to find a way through my maneuvers

- JAVandiver, on 11/14/2007, -0/+6"It's only a model.."
"Shhh!" - sharkd, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Buried for the fact that these display models are staples at every major industry event/trade show - Paris, Farnborough, Dayton, Singapore, AUSA, Sea-Air-Space, U.S. AFA, etc.
