- DreKor, on 10/29/2007, -39/+114Finally, a candidate with enough mindless supporters to rival Ron Paul. At least now there will be something interesting to watch on the internet.
- negativefx, on 10/26/2007, -4/+44better than bush! colbert currently has no ties to any oil companies...

- Scheissen, on 10/26/2007, -28/+16Ron Paul supporters aren't "mindless" sheep. I want to know if Colbert is actually serious about running in South Carolina and I want to know his real plans.
- skyfire1, on 10/26/2007, -9/+22This is all I see on the youtube comments.

Seriously everyone on youtube is legally retarded.
- aaronm67, on 10/26/2007, -2/+1Dude. That's not youtube. That's digg and reddit.
- skyfire1, on 10/26/2007, -9/+22This is all I see on the youtube comments.
- EndersGame, on 10/26/2007, -21/+31You call the supporters of Ron Paul mindless? Its actually the other way around, most of the supporters of other candidates are mindless and don't truly understand most political issues. Ron Paul supporters are so dedicated because they agree with Ron Paul on a lot of his stances rather than most other voters who barely give second thought to the election and vote for whoever the news anchors tell them to vote for.
It will be interesting though, if you thought the Paulastinians were bad, wait til you see what the Colbertites do to Digg :/- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -11/+17Paulastinians .. is such a great term. I've been calling them Lemmings because they'll go to the ends of the earth for their precious Ron Paul.
- chsbrgr, on 10/26/2007, -10/+8Lemmings are lemmings, even with a half-way decent man to back they STILL can't help but woddle around mumbling ... "ronpaul ronpaul ronpaul quack! ron paul is our savior quack"
- rotundo, on 10/26/2007, -2/+8It's so odd to me. The only serious criticism I hear about Ron is that people who like him are too vocal. What kind of criticism is that?
No wonder the country is *****, with people making nonsensical judgments like that.
I think I'll vote for the candidate who has the best smelling constituents. That'll solve our problems!
Sigh.- nakani, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1Don't worry, the meta-Digg haters will be too busy trolling the site to actually vote in the primaries. Ron Paul supporters actually will :)
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/26/2007, -0/+3I won't go to the ends of the earth for Ron Paul. I'll go to the ends of the earth for freedom.
- thebellmaster1x, on 10/26/2007, -4/+10I support Kucinich. I can't remember the last time he was mentioned in the mass media.
STFU. Just because somebody doesn't support your candidate doesn't mean that they "don't truly understand most political issues."- notque, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4Last time he was mentioned was.... On the Colbert Report!
- madmage, on 10/26/2007, -3/+2I support Obama.
I support Universal Health Care, ending the war in Iraq, and making us respected in the world, not by way of our military, but by way of our diplomacy and working with the world at large, and not against it.
I've read more than a few articles and books on these issues, and my stances on those issues are based on that.
I am not mindless, and I ask you apologize for insulting me and the people like me.
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -11/+17Paulastinians .. is such a great term. I've been calling them Lemmings because they'll go to the ends of the earth for their precious Ron Paul.
- Defuser, on 10/26/2007, -11/+36While I don't support Ron Paul, I DO think it's interesting that assholes like DreKor seem to feel that anyone who actually cares about a candidate is "mindless".
- SeekerDarksteel, on 10/26/2007, -4/+3It's because to admit that the zealotry of Paul supporters has any rational basis or merit is to admit that Paul's viewpoints are at least worth talking about. And the problem is that that upsets the status quo, because after all we already know that the election is going to be Guiliani vs. Hillary because the news has already told us, right? So why do all these Paul supporters want to go around stirring up trouble for anyway?
- rotundo, on 10/26/2007, -1/+10Wow, I guess the tides have turned! Paul bashing now gets you automatic diggs, and defending him gets you automatically buried!
Glad to know that we can choose the next president without considering the issues at all.
- negativefx, on 10/26/2007, -4/+44better than bush! colbert currently has no ties to any oil companies...
- swrostmore, on 11/14/2007, -9/+185Why is the MSM marginalizing Colbert and excluding him from debates? The neocons are terrified of his truthiness, thats why! They are even falsely accusing him of violating election laws in order to discredit him! COLBERT 08 REVOLUTION!
- kingvar, on 10/26/2007, -23/+14Why is the MSM marginalizing Paul and excluding him from debates? The neocons are terrified of his truthiness, thats why! They are even falsely accusing him of violating election laws in order to discredit him! PAUL 08 REVOLUTION!
all internet superhero movements have commononalities- tech42er, on 10/26/2007, -1/+4You idiot! That was the ***** joke!
- Humptydank, on 10/26/2007, -0/+2Although you don't seem to be new here, you may not know that there is an unspoken agreement that when stoned, you're only supposed to read Digg, not post.
Write down your thoughts on paper, and if they're still relevant in the morning then you can post them.
- amoirae, on 10/26/2007, -14/+6FREEDOM!
Wait. No. That's trademarked by Ron Paul...
Hmmmmmn. What should be the single word that encapsulates the Colbert campaign?
ANARCHY!
No... Bad connotations come with that.
ORGASMIC!
Good... but it could be better.- amoirae, on 10/26/2007, -0/+18Wait... I think I have it...

- Nerdculture, on 10/26/2007, -8/+1I am seriously planning on doing a write-in vote!
- expatriot71, on 11/03/2007, -0/+0Good call - this is what would scare the current batch of candidates,
NONE of them could beat him in a debate.

- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/26/2007, -1/+2This is one of those moments where we need a super 10+ digg button that can only be used once a month. That is easily the funniest comment I've read all month, amoirae.
- tech42er, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1That's actually a great tagline.

- TheSchimmi, on 10/26/2007, -18/+5well, since the majority of facebook members are over the age of 18, yeah, they kind of are.
- Pimptastic, on 10/26/2007, -0/+3Now to get all of them to actually vote instead of just bitch on the internet.
- jayhawk, on 10/26/2007, -7/+15no they are based on 16 year old digg users who vote 70 times in online ABC polls. ;~)

- card51short, on 10/27/2007, -1/+1you gotta love the logic that facebook friends amount to more than winning every single online poll and post debate poll.
Oh well, let the Colbert fans have their shine...we've already made Paul look like the front runner and we got plenty of time until the election.
Let the children have their fun....lets see if they can get any kind of real buzz going like we did.

Why stick your hand into the ring when you're 1) only running in one state and 2) have no chance and seriously i mean no chance of winning. You can't win with just one state so why take potential voters from a real candidate? It's not going to be neoconservatives voting for him it's going to be young people that watch his show. I like the man very much but I don't think this is the most appropriate thing to do unless he wants to be serious and run to win not to goof off.

How did Jesse Ventura win in "where ever he won at"? How did that 18 year old kid win to be mayor of his town? All it takes is stregth in numbers and popularity.

it would only translate it to a different scale.
eliminating the electoral college WOULD take away the voice of most states. Like north dakota, with a population of around 600,000. California has 32 million. the electoral college helps to ensure that states like north dakota are protected from majorities who live far away from them and don't share their experiences, concerns, or burdens.

But so far, he's only running in South Carolina and if they do decide to take his campaign seriously, his show might be considered and illegal in-kind donation from Viacom...
Let's see some issues, Colbert. The rhetoric on your show is fantastically funny, but the office of the president is anything but (regardless of what the clowns and monkeys of late have turned it into). In the meantime, I can't help but see this as one big publicity stunt.
...And why does President Camacho keep coming to mind?- muniak, on 10/26/2007, -1/+3Think of the exact opposite of every overly sarcastic comment he has ever made... it was probably something you agreed with right? Haha, its a nice little joke that colbert has going, but I think that it is doing way more damage then people think.
He is a vote-stealing candidate, and the demographic that is going to be filling in his name on the ballot come election day is huge, and the same demographic that real candidates like RP need.
I think its silly that diggers are so concerned about America, but so gun-ho about colbert '08. He's a comedian, not a presidential candidate.
Every vote counts, and every vote for colbert is a wasted one.- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -19/+22I'd rather toss my vote to Colbert if Obama and Kucinich don't get on the ticket.
A vote for Colbert is almost as effective as voting for Paul, they're both throw away votes, but people tend to think they'll matter.- Firehed, on 10/26/2007, -10/+9Paul is actually gaining momentum (even in the mainstream, to some extent), and is approaching a point of being a serious contender - something I was NOT expecting I'd ever type even a month ago. I doubt Paul will win either, but voting for him is most definitely much less of a throw-away vote than Colbert. Not that I'd consider either to be a throw-away vote - you're supporting somoene you actually want to win, even if you know they don't stand a chance. If you don't even do that, then you're saying you don't really care who wins - and I, for one, most definitely do care that none of the frontrunners win, as they all suck. Will it do much? Probably not, but at least I'll be putting my vote where my mouth is. - nakani, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1The difference is that Paul supporters will actually vote in the primaries ;)

Too bad most of the population believes that if you are not using your vote for the main Democratic or Republican candidate, then its a wasted vote. If everyone just voted for who they -really- thought would be best, I think that the US would be much better off.
I could be totally wrong but, since we have the system we do, with most people believing they are wasting their vote if they don't vote for one of the two main candidates, does the idea of everyone having two votes, one vote for, "If you could vote for anybody, without fear of, 'wasting,' your vote, who would it be?" and then the other vote be used as if there really were only two main candidates, sound like a good idea?

If everyone just voted for who they -really- thought would be best, I think that the US would be much better off.
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -19/+22I'd rather toss my vote to Colbert if Obama and Kucinich don't get on the ticket.
- herrstabby, on 10/26/2007, -12/+26I really hate to be a buzz kill, but does anyone here really, and I mean REALLY want a political satirist to be president? Quite frankly if I could decide then the idea of being a career politician would be out, but seriously, voting for someone who's best known as being incredibly sarcastic?
- centerblack, on 10/27/2007, -4/+23Honestly I think it would be fine.
- Waterrat, on 10/26/2007, -1/+3 As do I...We had Ronald Regan, who was an actor .Colbert sure would be better than RR was.
- AntiScurvyLg, on 10/29/2007, -1/+19Do I necessarily want Colbert to be president? Considering I know nothing about his platform (and he's only running in South Carolina) I'd say that's pretty irrelevant.
Would I have a problem with a political satirist running? Not at all, as they are likely very concrete on their stances and more educated than the average person when it comes to what works in politics. - Calculon, on 10/27/2007, -2/+15And he (or anyone) will be an improvement over our current president. I mean Colbert is intelligent atleast.
- lazyfisherman, on 10/26/2007, -0/+5Could Colbert and his comedian friends really mess up any more than Bush Co. has?
- absolutroot, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1i see your point. then I look at all the other candidates running in 08, and write-in colbert(provided ron paul quits after primaries, otherwise he gets my vote. ONLY CANDIDATE I CAN STAND).
- centerblack, on 10/27/2007, -4/+23Honestly I think it would be fine.

- splat5454, on 10/26/2007, -20/+8good job everyone, throw your vote away
- Defuser, on 10/29/2007, -7/+25***** off, *****. He's running in the Primary of ONE State. It's hardly the end of Democracy. But even if he were running in the actual REAL election: who the hell are you to tell ANYONE what constitutes "throwing away their vote"? Seriously, go to hell. Democracy is about voting for whoever you feel like voting for. If I decide to vote for the ghost of Pol Pot, I'll damn well do so, and you can go screw yourself if you don't like it.
- Nidy1, on 10/26/2007, -4/+5Thats fine, but don't tell us you're concerned about your country.
- dezman2003, on 10/26/2007, -5/+1yeah what he said....*****
- Meccabilly, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1Kodos: It’s true, we are aliens. But what are you going to do about
it? It’s a two-party system; you have to vote for one of us.
[murmurs]
Man1: He’s right, this is a two-party system.
Man2: Well, I believe I’ll vote for a third-party candidate.
Kang: Go ahead, throw your vote away.
- Defuser, on 10/29/2007, -7/+25***** off, *****. He's running in the Primary of ONE State. It's hardly the end of Democracy. - Firehed, on 10/26/2007, -2/+3So in other news, he'll be the only "one million" group on facebook to actually get there. We don't need status updates every fifteen seconds, thanks.

- captpopular, on 10/26/2007, -9/+1How is it that I can't find any group on Facebook with near that many members? The most of seen so far is around 20,000. What gives?
- daizaru, on 10/26/2007, -15/+10Join the mob mentality, vote for Stephen Colbert. Even though his campaign has been a complete joke and there's been no mention of policy. This kinda reminds me of that guy who ran for position at his school dressed up like a pirate and everyone went and voted for him.
The fact that people are taking this seriously and are willing to blithely backing him like this... it's scary.- daizaru, on 10/26/2007, -1/+3Actually I just realized that the University that did this was in fact North Carolina state university. There's probably an underlying message in why he picked that state.
- Mearn, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1Brush up on your geography. He's running in South Carolina.
- Defuser, on 10/26/2007, -4/+11The fact that you're a freakin' retard is what's scary. He's running in a Primary election in ONE State, dimwit. Furthermore, how I vote is none of your goddamn business.
- daizaru, on 10/26/2007, -1/+3Obviously people think it is if they need to make a group to boast whom they are voting for, I'm not telling you that you can't vote for him or anyone else. But I'm entitled to think it's stupid and that it's a very sad statement that people are taking this so serious or are willing to vote for someone who can not win instead of for someone they believe to be the best choice.
- jkizzle, on 10/26/2007, -6/+1YOURE STUPID TOO BWAHAHAHA
- masgrada, on 10/26/2007, -1/+6He scares me the least. Seems the most level headed when he talks, even if sarcastically.
- Pantheran, on 10/26/2007, -1/+2Since when is clicking twice blithely backing anyone?
- daizaru, on 10/26/2007, -1/+3Actually I just realized that the University that did this was in fact North Carolina state university. There's probably an underlying message in why he picked that state.
- HenvY, on 10/26/2007, -1/+5Holy crap, I refreshed and 200 more had joined after about 10 seconds.
- ucbluman, on 10/26/2007, -5/+9wow. props to colbert, but sad that people are taking him so seriously.
do you really think he'd so something as irresponsible as run for president, while illegally and publicly backed by a fortune 500 company, not as himself (and who knows what that might be) but as his television persona?
he's just doing this to rile up interest in his show (and hopefully the election process). kudos for that, frownies for the rest of you. - chuckler3, on 10/26/2007, -7/+6903,917.. i became a statistic at 3:39pm central time. i'd be fine with him over most others.. at least he's funny.. can't mess things up as much as our current "leader"
- KangoTraveler, on 10/26/2007, -6/+1site seems to have gone down now
- danno147, on 10/26/2007, -1/+1Sounds like your mom last night :P

- baudbwoy, on 10/26/2007, -12/+6Once again the Americans a ***** around with their political system, I wish I could come down there, vote and go back to Canada...I can probably do it all I have to do is write my name on a piece of green paper and drop my Canadian "accent". You guys playing around and next thing you know you all will be saying "President Colbert". *shakes head slowly
- pulsifier, on 10/26/2007, -3/+11as an expert in Canadology... smoke my *****.
it'll be the grandest spectacle in the town square - dezman2003, on 10/26/2007, -1/+7He might make a good president, its becoming increasingly clear that politicians suck at the job.
- jtmeyer, on 10/26/2007, -2/+3no. you can't vote in our elections. what you can do is get mauled when colbert banishes all of our bears to your ***** ass country.
- pulsifier, on 10/26/2007, -3/+11as an expert in Canadology... smoke my *****.
- huppra, on 10/26/2007, -4/+0i joined and refreshed the page 2 minutes later and another 1000+ joined... amazing
- mhender, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1I buried your comment, refreshed two minutes later and it was buried again.....amazing
- pulsifier, on 10/26/2007, -19/+8i'm getting sick of colbert and his devoted following. i hate the president too but i'm not going to fanatically support everything this man does under the guise of 'comedy' because i'm desperate for a real leader
buried as garbage- absolutroot, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1and who will you vote for? mr. 911?
- skyfire1, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2Sad thing is that 95% of conservatives can't see through his satire.
- HotWingBias, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2I'm in the 18-24 bracket. I vote.
- Xevec, on 10/26/2007, -3/+10Damn it people, Colbert is NOT really running for president. As Jon Stewart said earlier about people asking him to run, "something is ***** up with our country if you want people like me or Colbert to run for president." Why is it that when our country is in trouble...we want a "celebrity" to run the government? Let us see.....Ronald Reagan, Jesse Ventura, Governor Arnold. I find Colbert pretty cool. I don't mind him. He gave Ron Paul the "colbert bump."(he also gave it to huckabee. I don't like him as a candidate, but I like the way he speaks.) Hell, I barely hear Colbert/Stewart making fun of Ron Paul. I wonder if they secretly support him.
- Corneileus, on 10/26/2007, -0/+3We're aware that it's a joke, but it's getting people active. What's not to like?
