- inactive, on 11/12/2007, -3/+129It's hard not to love xkcd. One of the best comics out there.
- Cobainy, on 11/11/2007, -13/+71I love it too, but must every comic hit the front page?
- ripstuntz, on 11/11/2007, -5/+63I'd be giving her the "boot sector" if you know what I mean!
- Scagli3tti, on 11/11/2007, -1/+51The alt text literally made me laugh out loud:
"And she put sweet nothings in all my .conf files. It'll take me forever to get X working again." - badjoke, on 11/11/2007, -7/+42It doesn't. Every few weeks is not every comic.
- lhbaker, on 11/11/2007, -5/+39Never marry a smart woman.
- Unclekoolaid, on 11/11/2007, -1/+31Oh that's cold
- frenchtoaster, on 11/11/2007, -4/+33If you want to be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a smart woman your wife
So from a personal point of view
Get a dumb girl to marry you
A smart woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall
As soon as he marries her, then she starts
Doin' the things that will break his boot-parts - Dokument, on 11/11/2007, -0/+26yeah, find those people and demand that they break up... so that i may date them
- dartmanx, on 11/11/2007, -1/+24Little Bobby Tables still brings a smile to my face.
- Kerrigore, on 11/10/2007, -0/+23The lucky ones.
- Moskie, on 11/11/2007, -1/+21I love the fact that he dropped his cup of coffee on the floor. Twas a nice touch.
- wesd, on 11/10/2007, -0/+18Do you know what a boot sector is? Be honest.
- digitalarcanum, on 11/11/2007, -1/+16XKCD is great like this, it takes a certain amount of technical know-how to understand the jokes that are being thrown at you. It's like a comic specifically tailored for nerds.
- piobeyr, on 11/12/2007, -0/+11I'm taking this opportunity to brag that I was in the same room with Randall Munroe an hour ago for his lecture here at CMU. By the way, he's made himself President of the Internet.
- frenchtoaster, on 11/11/2007, -0/+11The boot sector controls your computer booting, and if you write something incorrect to it, your computer will no longer boot. The joke is that she left him a poem, but wrote it to his boot sector which means his computer no longer functions.
- inactive, on 11/10/2007, -1/+12Oh man, add this next to my cyanide and happiness favorites :D
- inactive, on 11/10/2007, -4/+14DIGG should just automatically RSS every new comic to the front page when it comes out... hey, *I* should rss and auto-submit every new comic... :) Nevermind DIGG, please ignore this...
- aldenhg, on 11/11/2007, -0/+10It's nothing a Super GRUB disk can't solve. I'd actually be proud if my girlfriend figured out how to mess up my MBR.
- dartmanx, on 11/10/2007, -3/+12Yes. Yes, it must.
- dartmanx, on 11/11/2007, -2/+10Sorry, geek chicks FTW
- Rekzai, on 11/11/2007, -1/+9Also http://www.explosm.net/comics
- NoOneButMe, on 11/11/2007, -1/+9And accurate given both Wine 09.49 and XKCD's latest story are on front page right next to each other.
- JT114881, on 11/10/2007, -0/+7Do you know how hard it is to find a girl geek?
Inconsiderate *****. - Kerrigore, on 11/10/2007, -2/+9Because not everyone checks them regularly, and believe it or not there are actually new people joining the internet and digg every who *gasp* might not even know of the joy that is xkcd! Stop being so self-centered.
- inactive, on 11/10/2007, -1/+8No, you're supposed to say "What a twist!"
- TVarmy, on 11/10/2007, -0/+7-bash: sudo: be quie: command not found
- mashw, on 11/11/2007, -1/+7Can someone explain this to me, I understand what a boot sector is (sort of) but I'm obviously missing something and I usually love xkcd.
- h4rdcor3, on 11/10/2007, -0/+6I can only wish
- digitalarcanum, on 11/11/2007, -1/+5because I can. You're questioning this why?
- deadnoob, on 11/11/2007, -2/+6this one isnt as good as so many others on there.
- monkeyrun, on 11/11/2007, -2/+6lol. nice twist.
- homey007, on 11/11/2007, -1/+4The boot sector of a hard drive is the section on the hard drive which points to where to load the OS, be it Windows, Mac, or Linux.
- xaxxon, on 11/12/2007, -1/+4sudo go read xkcd!
- sexybobo, on 11/10/2007, -0/+3http://sourceforge.net/projects/xming
Since at least 2005. - Psykus2, on 11/10/2007, -0/+3sudo make me a sandwich
- Xerces, on 11/10/2007, -1/+3i dont get it either but was afriad to ask because i know that A. diggers will just be mean ab out it B. someone else will ask
- mashw, on 11/11/2007, -0/+2Ohhh I get it. I get jokes.
- TomFrost, on 11/10/2007, -1/+3You realize this comic updates 3 times a week, right? Not once every couple weeks, like the digg submissions average out to being? Come on.. people are only frontpaging the really good ones.
- AdHaR, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2Awesome...
- noumuon, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2"Even this one would be accessible to people who don't know that much about computers." - yea, you know... my grandmother was just giving me a lecture about boot sectors the other day. o_O
- cozmoz365, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2This is why he should have disabled sudo and never give her the root password
- sweeneyowns, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2hahaha i noticed the coffee spilling too! randall is the man. he also inspired me to start learning **PERL!!!**
- UwasaWaya, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2I haven't laughed nearly as hard as I did at the Bobby Tables comic in a long, long time.
I'm a big fan of the 'Waking up would be easier if your mom didn't look so much like you' one too. - Kerrigore, on 11/10/2007, -1/+3I thought of that... but not everyone who is technically savvy is web savvy, and conversely not everyone who isn't web savvy isn't technically savvy. Plus, quite a few of xkcd rely on jokes to do with geek culture, movies, songs, science, and so on that even people who haven't used the internet a lot might get, and a lot of them have nothing to do with the internet at all. Even this one would be accessible to people who don't know that much about computers.
- inactive, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2Now find RSS feeds for those. Pretty please? :)
- kineticarl, on 11/11/2007, -1/+3And you're explaining this to us... why?
- Aythun, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2zsh: correct 'Sudo' to 'sudo' [nyae]?
- Edrick, on 11/11/2007, -5/+7CAD is not funny.
- kineticarl, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1I was just hoping to avoid using the Dr. Obvious comment. 'tis all.
