- bbnkstr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42another way of leaving negative feedback
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21I blame Jack Thompson.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Not as disturbing as their fee hikes...
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Surpised nobody blamed Google Checkout... heh
(sarcasm) - teclo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I loved that one of the first things the reporter from CBS said was that the bomb was not Radiological.. Jesus, scaremongering a little? The hazmat suits also seemed a little over the top, but I guess, late at night, it gives the guys something to do, kind of like "Well, we're here so we may as well deploy everything since the camera crews are here..."

AC:Bad ebayer, did not send ordered product, sent bomb instead. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10They said an explosive device was found, so I'm pretty sure it was no accident. But yeah, the title is misleading. To me it made it sound like there was an army of people outside shooting at it.
- JoshHendo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Isn't that what insurance is for?
- hiopilot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Our division was given the told to go home at 4:00pm today to go give out candy to unsuspecting kids. But, that's at a different building.
News reports were that the building was said to be lightly occupied at the time (26 people or something like that), and there were no injuries. Only cosmetic building damage. Nothing on the iweb or email yet from corporate. - ratlhead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7This scares the hell outta me...and I'm sure everyone that works there. As a former employee in that very building just 5 months ago and with alot of good friends who still work there, I just hope everyone is ok.
- elqed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I was actually on a call with the NOC looking at a performance problem with one of the systems when the bomb went off, heard a small bang (thought it was a phone handset hitting a table) and the TDO said there was an explosion... I work at ebay south, so when I heard the TDO say explosion I thought he meant traffic spike, very glad to hear that everyone is ok.
Also for other ebayer's, it looks like that campus is closed tomorrow. - PayneX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think the firefighters should charge them:
1. Insertion fee
2. Water + firetruck fee.
3. Fire Protection Fee
4. Premium emergency call fee.
5. Withdrawal fee.
6. Make them update to a Premium Emergency Account if they want to pay by credit card.
Then add a Final Value Fee once everything is sorted out. - kd1s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6When you consider that Paypal has been playing hardball with customers for quite some time, this was inevitable.
For example, there have been numerous stories on the web of people who've had their accounts closed and money taken by Paypal because of some weird interpretation of the terms of service. One guy seemed like he was far enough on the edge to do something like this. - playerslight, on 10/12/2007, -12/+18Although it's almost certainly too soon to make light of this situation, I blame Tyler Durden.
That said, here's hoping everyone got out okay. - NullrouteN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yea, it was confirmed after I posted. Scary. I ended employment of 3.5 years (2.5 in that very campus) a mere 3 months ago.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Someone didn't get their refund...
- blackomegax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5that's what i said.
when paypal locks your uberseller ebay account with over 20k dollars in it, and refuses to acknowledge your exsistence as rightful owner of said money, you might get pissed enough to do this.
i can't wait for the day paypal is FDIC. but it will NEVER happen. - ABadInAlbany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5SOMEbody got ticked off at their sham of a "buyer protection program"
- doxx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Wow a bomb? This is pretty disturbing.
- anonynous2_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Under fire" and "on fire" mean different things...
- Mysk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My first thought was: This is what happens when you lock up someone's money for months on end for no legit reason. They get angry. With the amount of customers that they have they were bound to eventually do that to someone who is mentally unstable.
That said, this is farked up no matter the reason. Could've seriously ruined some lives.
This is some crazy news to wake up to in the morning. - doxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Good thing people can telecommute, I doubt anyone would want to work from that campus tomorrow.
- open_sauce, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6When I read the article it brought the phrase "Somebody set us up the bomb" to mind from the badly translated zero-wing dialog. So I posted it, to see what other people thought.
Obviously not much. I'm not sure how it makes me "a complete idiot" though. - michaelbeckham, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"eBay/PayPal campus under fire."
Under fire would imply it was being scrutinized shouldn't it be on fire? Anyways this is extremely disturbing hopefully it was a accident and not deliberate. - hiopilot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm telecommuting tomorrow, although I work at a different eBay campus. But, I always telecommute on Wednesdays. Still scary! I'm sure we'll have extra security all over tomorrow.
- chedabob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I doubt a dry ice bomb would blow through plate glass.
- doctabu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Probably just a PowerBook battery.
Move along, people. - techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My guess is it's from someone with less than 50 positive feedback who pre-ordered a crap load of PS3's, and now can't sell them until the 17th.
- Kale, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Media scaremongering? Probably. But the hazmat team is normally called in these situations until it can be certain it is safe. It's a good practice in cases like this to "assume dangerous until proven safe".
- nfvs, on 08/30/2008, -2/+5Digging down a Fight Club reference, and digging up the tired and overstated Jack Thompson reference? Shame on you!
- DBCubix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3They got Google bombed. haha
- bladzalot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hahahaha, that is awesome, their guilty until proven innocent technique on all Their users has finally drawn fire, literally...
Hey, I got an idea, let's consolidate the two worst customer services groups on earth into one company, and then put them in the same building... - DanMattia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hazmat always wear the suits until the all-clear is given, and the news reports said there was a haze from the explosion, which made Hazmat act safer than sorry.
- modpancake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Could've sworn PayPal HQ was in Nebraska. Odd.
- scottschiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree with some of the over-reactions (well at least they didn't say FUD-ish things like "suspected terrorist attack!"), likely given the timing - it's Hallowe'en, kids do stupid things, put firecrackers in garbage cans, mail boxes and so on.
It's definitely not cool (and a little disturbing) when stuff like that is going off in the middle of an area where people work or live. Hallowe'en might be an excuse for lighting off some fireworks (though I'm told they're illegal across the US? Apparently Canada is different..), but even if this were some sort of Hallowe'en prank, I'm glad it's being investigated. - theone3, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Bauer.
- Evil-Dragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What did the person think they would achieve by doing this exactly?
Seems a bit pointless to me, espically if it was some disgruntled customer. - n0sferatu, on 10/12/2007, -18/+18Someone finally got fed-up will PayPal's *****?
- Darrigan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome, ***** PayPal for defrauding me for a deadbeat eBay bidder... This company rips off tons of people and deserves every piece of crap coming their way...
In another note, I just dislike the corporate entity itself... I hope nobody actually got hurt. - bdpf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes i picked up on that too.
Just what they do to sell news papers & increase ratings.
Also a way to get ahead as a reporter.
A little decorative reporting. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I was just about to comment on how pathetic the original article was. Thanks for the link... that's much better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Probably more anti-capitalist anarchist "action".
- Akram, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8disgruntled customer what else could it be
- dstart, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Wow, a broken window.
Probably some punks at Halloween. - open_sauce, on 10/12/2007, -11/+7Captain: What happen ?

- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2You sir, are a complete idiot.
- barnis, on 10/12/2007, -18/+2haha talk about sensationalist headline
