I hope they have bike racks for this thing. - CaptShmo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+40In Soviet Russia, auction outbids you
- j01101010, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41well, this is one of those cases where it doesn't matter if its a fantastic deal, i still don't have 21 grand.
maybe the pirate bay should buy this to defend themselves when the buy sealand.... - sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34Get the two seat model and make sure the ejection seat works.
- craaaig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30$21,000 is relatively cheap, considering it will burn about that much fuel in one flight.
- perkonis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Yet another reason I need to win the Powerball.
- capiCrimm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25well then you can blow them up.
- voteforblank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20How do you explain to your wife you just spent 21K on a Jet?
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27or play Ace Combat
Also, with a shipping cost of $5.000, who could resist such a deal! (Before all you Diggnazis correct me on this, I am fully aware that many countries use a decimal point instead of a comma) - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21It's demilitarized, not much fun.
- pottedplant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Does the seller accept PayPal?
- harvinator24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Mig is a USSR fighter jet, not American.
- gameforge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I was actually wondering how many hours are on it, or at least some clue about its condition. They don't say whether it's flyable, etc. They don't even say what year it was manufactured (could be fifty years old, literally).
This is like something an air museum would buy to hang on the ceiling; I think in order to take it for a spin you'd need to invest a lot of money into it, just making sure that it's safe to fly (i.e. have a technician come to your hangar and evaluate its condition, fix anything that's wrong with it, etc.) Where do you get cheap parts for such a beast? Where do you even find a technician for one?
Plus, wouldn't you need some kind of qualifying license to fly it? It's not exactly a Canadair Regional Jet... And think of the insurance!! It's either a grounded novelty for your enjoyment or ONE HELL of a money pit if you decide to fly it. Still, it's pretty cool that you can buy fighter jets on eBay. - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Yeah...they send it by UPS ground transport. Look for a big brown truck with a plane in the back.
- CaptShmo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20it's a bogey
- WestDC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Yours or hers? :P
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Some assembly required.

Please e-mail me at DrJohnSmith419@gmail.com =)
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15If women designed planes, would it still be called a cockpit?
- fleury29, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13@IvanB "Maybe should of mentionned in the title that it was a plane. :o"
Ya, and maybe they should mention the need to not be a retard on the digg registration site. If you don't know what a Mig is, you should really start reading books, and listening in your history classes. - wiggimt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Nope, junkmail copied him :)
- Chrisfromdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Has anyone else noticed how amazingly ugly the cockpit of this plane is? Looks like someone has tried to self pimp it.
We need to get Xzibit on the case! - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Funny, and true, story:
When I was in college, us nerdy guys were poking around eBay, looking for goofy auctions and one of us came across a Mig for sale on eBay motors. At the time, the high bid was around $215,000. A few of us dared my one friend into bidding on it. The minimum bid increment was $100, so that's how much he bid. For the next three days, he was the highest bidder on the Mig, and he was panicking that he was going to have to buy the thing. - max420, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20unkmail02 wrote:

That is totally what I thought! Dugg! - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I already have 418 of these things...
I just need one more... - khyberkitsune, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13No, it blows ***** the ***** up.
Ooops, no, it's demilitarized, so, I guess if the turbine works, it'll blend, but you'll most likely blow your ***** up once you ***** the turbine. Those blades are sturdy, but not THAT sturdy. Decent sized birds would ***** that up good. - Beetlesweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"Digg Dang Dugg it!"
Are you Ned Flanders? - uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Wonder if I could get delivery to Manhattan....
- khyberkitsune, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11No, in Soviet russia Lame comments bury YOU. See poster above you for proof. ;)
- mrbro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Even if you can't fly it, you'd be able to set up THE ultimate flight simulator cockpit on that thing.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11"Holy christ this makes me want to sell my s2000!"
That and the fact you're not a woman? - slasherx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Holy christ this makes me want to sell my s2000! I can imagine the neighbors reaction when I blow their house to shreds on landing. :D They'll never park in my space again! hahaha
- 0004, on 07/04/2008, -0/+8i smell a 419-style advance-fee fraud scammer... he's asking for cash to prepare the documents... photoshop anyone ??
quote:
After the ending of auction the buyer transfers 50 % of the price (bank to bank), for preparation of documents, also preparation of the aircraft and so on. When the buyer has prepared the documents (sanction to import) he sends it to us by mail and transfers the rest of price + transport (if it is required). (certainly you can orgonise a transport). We speak you the number of transport, you becomes the aircraft etc. - mcdett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9You would need to do the following:
1 - Get your private pilots license: approx 60 hours of training @ $150 an hour = $9,000
2 - Get a high performance endorsement: approx 10 hours @ $225 an hour = $2,250
3 - Find a Certified Flight Instructor who is rated for this aircraft, and is willing to fly with you in the aircraft to issue you the type rating. (they are here in the US) I think in Minnesota alone we have a few Mig-21 flying around. I know there is one in Anoka.
4 - I am guessing this thing would consume about 700 lbs of JetA an hour. 1 gallon of JetA approx 6lbs = 117 gallons an hour @ $3.00 dollars a gallon means... $351 an hour on fuel alone
5 - man this list is getting too long..... you would also need a bunch of signatures from Airframe and Power-plant A & P mechanics saying the thing is flight worthy.... they are not cheap.
6 - You would need the FAA to come out and verify it flight worthiness...
7 - ???
8 - Profit? - bitsyboffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@galaad
Not necessarily, buying an ex military jet fighter isn't exactly just a matter of dropping around and picking it up. I suspect the countries involved will have roughly a crapload of papers to be signed, security checks to be made etc.
Although certainly I would expect an escrow of some description. - tugger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Dads, Go for the twin-seat version.. there's room for the childseat in the back..
- runforcover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"!OFCOURSE WE HAVE A DEMILITARIZATION-DOCUMENT!"
What if they don't? - BaadPete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Get some tips off this guy.

"The price of tranceport approximately 5.000$" - Kranklin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Haha, Pimp my Fly!
I just hope they don't put a spoiler on the rear of it! - Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wait, who's junkmail? Oh, right, that guy who I have blocked...
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What do you expect from a 50 yr-old plane? It's amazing that it's still in use in so many countries. There's also an Israeli modernization upgrade developed in 2000 with a digital cockpit, new avionics, and weapons:
http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/mig21/
For many small countries, this is good enough to protect themselves. - Imagine3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why would you want a Mig 21 when you could have an authentic F-16 inflatable decoy? ...lol for 3/5 of the price. For some reason, I don't think a balloon should cost that much.
