- SimianSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+127Is it funny to anyone else that the only guy in the band without a beard has the last name "Beard"?
- ray901, on 10/12/2007, -5/+95ZZ Top Guy?
His name is Billy Gibbons - it even says so in the article. Bloody kids today, no respect for their elders, pants round their knees and always listening to those ePod thingies. - krazytom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+70Gotta Catch 'Em All!

And the artist was Lars-Erik Fisk. - masgrada, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20HA! combine this with some sort of segway technology!
The colors and style reminds me of the bad guy in sonic the hedgehog. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20You forgot to tell them to get off your lawn.
- EatingPie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17It's an art project by Lars-Erik Fisk, not a real car. Looks like it's really just a joke, probably originalted by Gibbons himself (whitewalls in the trunk still require an axel to be useful :) ).
The "car" is only 4' in diameter. Gibbons' beard is longer than that!
Relevant info on the project (this quote from 2004 included same picture from link).
"Kicking off our new Contemporary Projects Series at the Fleming Museum is Volkswagenball, a recent addition to an ongoing body of work by Lars-Erik Fisk. A graduate of the University of Vermont art department, Fisk has worked as an independent artist in Burlington and New York City, and as artistic director of the band Phish. Since 1996, he has created a series of large, spheroid sculptures that refer to specific objects, buildings, and vehicles. The works merge pop and minimalist sensibilities with a playful sense of humor and impeccable craftsmanship. Fisk’s earliest works in this series were exhibited on the Museum’s lawn in 1997, and included, among others, Street Ball, Tree Ball, and UPS Ball. Later works in the series included architectural and vehicular subjects, such as Barn Ball and School Bus Ball, and his newest piece, Volkswagenball, which will be exhibited at the Fleming this summer. [2004]"

- ChlkDstTtr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15If I'm not mistaken the sculpture was actually created by a man named Lars-Erik Fisk. A couple more pics of the VW:

I don't mind them walking on the lawn - that's how I get 'ol rusty's dog poop picked up. ;) - Sixcolors, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"Do you think that an article about Billy Gibbons, a name that is recognizable to no one, would be as popular as an article about someone in ZZ Top, a name that most Americans do recognize?"
How about leaving out the obnoxious (PIC INCLUDED) in exchange for his name? "ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons...) - mwosh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"(PIC INCLUDED)"
Well of course there is a pic included for a story about a perfectly spherical VW Bus, who would dare submit a story to digg about that WITHOUT a pic? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+17I wonder how the brakes work.
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's awesome. It's just awesome.

That is a song off one of their older albums....dam youngsters "ZZ Top guy" that couold get ya hanged in Texas! :) - cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@ray & doctor - Damn straight. I'm 27 and ZZ Top is my favorite band. They're a really good choice for any bar musician that has a "try to stump me" part of their show. Back Door Love Affair anyone?
- DarthTurducken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've run into Billy, a fellow Houstonian, a couple of times. Once was when I was working at Borders Books in the Meyerland area. He came in at night (with shades on) and bought a stack of (duh) music books. He used an Elvis Visa card to purchase. Saw again later coming out of a Ruichi's taqueria at Richmond/Kirby late one night.
- eradicator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5But is it full of hot chicks? No ZZ Top car is complete without them.
- ShinjiTheGale, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4ahhh, the Isetta. The perfect reason to not let a refrigerator manufacturer help build your car.
- PostalBean, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It rolls.
- danmickla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why did the title ever say "ZZ top guy turns..." No one, apparently including the second mistaken article, ever thought Billy Gibbons was the sculptor...

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"Gotta love Billy Gibbons."
He's one of the coolest and most humble musicians I've ever met. Just all around great guy. Plus, my very first concert was seeing ZZ Top in 1984...Eliminator tour.
Anyone email me a walker and some Geritol? :P - rockwellpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That would be good to relax in and watch the stars. Add a nice sound system, make it heated and make the steering wheel turn it 360 degrees so you can watch all parts of the sky.
- EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not physically, at least.
- ozid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2One of the ZZ Top guys has bought several Scion XB's off of my friend. I guess the last time they came in, they didn't have beards. o.o
- Gir53457, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's a rockin' and a rollin', rollin' and a rockin'!
- Darkelysium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i dont know, everytime i look at this vw i just get this nagging sensation that this is just the germans re-engineering the pokeball. This thing sadly screams pokemon. Catch them all in one gigantic ball.
- varmit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Huh? Why does it say 900 something diggs on Digg, but 1200 something diggs on the guys website. Both show that I have dugg it already. Is there a bug somewhere.
- unimatrixZxero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg really does need a picture section.
- thouis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oops. Missed this before I posted below. I was the photographer of those pictures. And the artist was in fact Lars-Erik Fisk.
