- DOCNM, on 11/08/2009, -0/+15Every time I see those gloves, I'm reminded of the entire process through which the fruit has gone: sprayed with fertilizers and pesticides, covered in dust and rain, picked up by dirty hands, pushed by dirty hands on a conveyor belt, rinsed in a dirty bath, possibly waxed, possibly sprayed with preservatives or ripening agents, put into boxes by dirty hands, removed from boxes and finally put on shelves by dirty hands.

- DiggieDarko, on 11/08/2009, -1/+8America's one of the few countries where it's generally okay to squeeze the fruit without gloves. Most southern european grocery stores offer disposable gloves, makes sense to me.
- DOCNM, on 11/08/2009, -0/+7until I found one that is not damaged and already rotting. For avocados it's even worse: I might go through an entire basket and end up not picking any. But that's because I don't want to pay for something I won't eat.
