- DeskFlyer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+42In Soviet Russia, ...............well, there's some really ***** expensive book.
- holygram, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31That's dumb...you could diamond encrust anything and it would be the "most expensive _______ in the world"...
- Sophren, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Putin kills the bear on page 566.
- MercedRocks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Great way to start another Russian Revolution....
....show how obscenely wealthy Russian oligarchs are by making something so gaudy as a $3mill diamond encrusted book for sale while most of the country struggles to get enough to eat each day. - TheNewFlesh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19I was expecting a "first edition" of the Bible or something. Anyone (who's rich) can load up a book with jewels.
- loveandrockets, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9A Gutenberg Bible sold for 5.4 million so, no, it isn't the most expensive book. Compared to the Gutenberg its a piece of crap.
- altinnovation, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7How to make money in Russia:
1. Don't buy books for £3 Million
2. ???
3. Profit! - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7One thing's for sure, it's not the brilliance of the diamonds that makes it hard to look at. Pretty tacky, low budget design for something that's supposed to show off millions of dollars in diamonds.. There's no accounting for taste these days. Shows that no amount of money can polish a turd.
- TheNewFlesh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Digg up for not finishing that properly :D
- ripple123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5In Soviet Russia, book read you!
/Order reigns in the universe again - SirNoobius, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5exactly. not what i was expecting.
it's the easy way of making everything "THE MOST EXPENSIVE"
specially for books which are judged by content not the cover.
buried - ThinkBox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4@ loveandrockets
£ or $ ? - Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4$6 million, actually. That's 3 million British pound sterling.
- swazo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3ebook?
- thomasheperd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Eh, i'll just wait for the movie.
- themarq, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2For what it's worth the actual record holding "most expensive book" is "Birds of Amercia" by John James Audubon. A copy in excellent condition sold at Christie's in March of 2000 for $8,802,500 (USD).
And yeah, I could sprinkle a billion dollars worth of diamonds on "The Amazing Spiderman #300" and call it the most expensive book too. This russian deal would be more accurately called the most expensive book cover. - AriaStar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"The inside track to making mega-millions"
Whoever can afford this already has that covered. - 4eloBek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2well if its not a necronomicon im not interested... has anyone bought it already? share =)
- StingingNettle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I was hoping it was worth that much because of the knowledge, not for being jewel incrusted.
- superfusion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I was expecting like a signed Dostoevsky first edition or something. This is dumb.
World's most expensive pile of dried goat manure = 2 lbs of goat manure + $3 million in diamonds. - chobit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birds_of_America_%28book%29
A copy sold for 8.8 million recently, which the article says is a record, plus, it didn't need diamonds to reach that value. - LonesomeFighter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't get it, the book is about how to make millions, but the book costs millions to buy. So in order to buy the book, you have to know everything in the book.
- diggdon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I forgot to mention there are no diamonds on the Gutenberg Bible.
- diggdon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Check the Gutenberg Bible article on wikipedia. In 1987 and Old Testament partial copy was sold for 5 million dollars. A whole Bible would likely have sold for 10 million. In today's dollars probably 20 million. Since there are about 48 copies of that book known today, the entire value of the set is about 1 billion dollars.
- bs7754, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2That's real nice and all, but...........will it blend?
- preved, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Stupid. Want to sell a book to Russians - use Russian language, not English...
- JJVH, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"The track to making mega-millions in Russia" is to make a diamond encrusted book and sell it to just one person.
- joebaloney, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think I'll glue a Bentley to a popsicle stick and sell a bunch of dumbass rich guys the "World's Most Expensive Popsicle Stick."
- diggdon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The article says the book did NOT sell at that price, the buyer changed his mind.
- Gremlinclr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"The book is an account of how the author made £100m through business in post-Soviet Russia."
He'll make another £100m because people are stupid enough to buy a book for £3m. - gfnw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1$6 million in your crazy moon money.
- wellyuk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I'd wager that someone who is in a financial position to buy a book for £3 million probably ISN'T stupid enough to buy a book for £3 million.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0what a waste of diamonds...what a perverted idea..i know that Russians read a lot, but who in their right mind would by that??
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Can't wait to see what the Iraqi billionaires buy... oh, wait...
- peterg78, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0This copy of the Koran is worth over $9 million (Aus) - more than twice the book in this article.
http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,22251405-5006009,00.html - Biskino, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Well, at least Russia's a democracy now! What?
Well, at least ordinary Russians are no longer having to live with shortages of everyday goods! That too?
Well, at least the cold war is over! Damn, 0 for 3!?
So, aside from diamond encrusted coffee table books wtf did Ronald Rogaine accomplish when he single handedly toppled the Soviet Empire? - casemon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I wonder if this cheesy book is worth the blood of the Africans it took to make it...
I see this as just another sign of how wrong our capitalistic priorities are. - AriaStar, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2That bible wasn't brand new.
"World's Most Expensive NEW Book: £3 Million" would have been a more appropriate title. - gbarger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It doesn't matter $5.4 is still more than £3...at least this week it is.
- SamanthaMll, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Rich people will buy anything as long as it's expensive enough just to justify to the world that they have money - then we laugh at them for buying it or at least trying to sell it.
- steven401, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Yes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUHyNdkukWg - Gaylard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+03 million? What's that in real money?
- lazyfisherman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0how tasteless...
if you have truckloads of money, you buy something like DaVinci's original manuscripts, gutenberg bibles, famous paintings etc. or the Koran above.. not over-hyped trash like this. - wellyuk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0No, the point I was making was not that he hadn't bought a $3000 bike, but he hadn't bought a $3000 bike to round around on in DC. I can't believe for a second that he didn't buy a $3000 bike to ride everywhere - hills, mountains, firetracks... every ***** where NOT to just ride around on in DC. Catch up, dick head.
- Bricks, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1The allofmp3 founders will have lonely coffee tables no more. and by coffee, I mean vodka.
