- lansuggs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+26I laughed out loud at this: "they fire a cannon every day at 1 PM to remind people that cannons are fun."
- seeversjm, on 10/11/2007, -2/+27"And finally, the coolest castle ever... Castle Grayskull!"
I actually laughed out loud when I read this... - Penmaton, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22I think he put that entire list together just to add the last bit of Castle Greyskull.
- kevyn, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18as i live about 10min drive from 2 castles, i feel i should give them a shout:
Warwick castle:
http://www.warwick-castle.co.uk/warwick2004/index.asp
Kenilwroth castle:
http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/kenilworthcastle/ - MrDo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15They seem to have forgot Takeshi's Castle. :-r
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13You live in Britain (so do I), *everywhere* is a 10 minute drive from at least 1 castle.
If you want Hogwarts try Durham Castle, if I remember right quite a few scenes are shot there for it. - eschompthis, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Ghost Removal... $190,000 ..............
WTF! - spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7http://search.ebay.com/sense-of-humour_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQfromZR40
- Patogrande, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I cannot believe that this omitted Castle Aaargh!
(which, in real life, is Castle Stalker)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Stalker - bstew22, on 10/11/2007, -14/+20digg me down.
- muzzle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"At Edinburgh Castle, they fire a cannon every day at 1 PM to remind people that cannons are fun."
- peterkay, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6That site is awful!
- Slattz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You can’t talk about castles without mentioning Eilean Donan.
http://www.castles.org/castles/Europe/Western_Europe/United_Kingdom/Scotland/Eilean_Donal-Highlands/index.htm
You might recognise it from “Highlander”.
I’m lucky enough to pass that way occasionally and if you want to see it I think it looks it best in bad weather at sunset. :-) - gullevek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Actually nice and interesting pictures, but the text to those pictures is so damn stupid and ridiculous that I just cannot digg it.
- DeskFlyer, on 10/11/2007, -5/+9The word "Amazing" needs to be banned from the internets.
- diggstown, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I call BS on the list! The most important castle was left off:
http://whitecastle.com/ - PerfektXj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Those plus a few more: http://pileofphotos.com/view/181/Amazing-castles Where can I get one?
- kefler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Hi, this site is all about castles, REAL CASTLES. This site is awesome. My name is Robert and I can't stop thinking about castles. These things are cool; and by cool, I mean totally sweet.
- Spr0k3t, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3This post jumped the shark.
- toothy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Eddie Izzard - Dressed To Kill (To an american audience)
Cause you think we all live in castles. And we do all live in castles. We got a castle each. We’re up to here with f**kin’ castles. We just long for a bungalow or something. - iliketurtles2, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Durham Castle is very impressive however. It's actually part of Durham University's University College and students actually live in the castle... yes really!
- theysayjump, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Glad to see my hometown at the top of the list, however the list was a bit on the sparse side.
All of those Castles are beautiful (even more so in person) but it needs to have more than 8 of them to earn the title of World's Coolest Castles.
Some cool facts about Edinburgh Castle:
In its almost 1,200 year history, nobody has ever climbed the entire length of the rocks that it sits atop.
A 340 million year old volcano (Arthur's Seat) erupted and the top of it landed about a mile away which is what the Castle is built upon.
The One O'clock Gun fires at 1pm every day as a tradition, but first started as a way for ships to "check their watches".
The castle's gates have never been breached.
It hosts the famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo with regiments from all over the world taking part and has even had African tribes appear. - willin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I've got bad news. He-Man was always totally gay.
- chicaneuk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2> as i live about 10min drive from 2 castles, i feel i should give them a shout
Weird. Someone local to me on Digg. I live about the same distance from both as well.. you must be in Leamington or there abouts ;) Warwick Castle is well worth a visit :) - ICSU, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Especially when used for such a ***** list.
Just go to Wikipedia if you actually want to see many beautiful castles.

One of my favourites:

should be: "Fetchez la vache!" - kcpwnsgman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1reply to my own question:
ahh well, apparently I'm retarded and didn't read the comments on the digg update story - travisb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1For those who want their own castle: http://www.castlemagic.com/color.html
I found this site a few years ago and someday would like to build my own. - Mavenshade, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Top Castles I would build in Ages of Empires if I could...

(update maybe? I don't see the reply button though...) - DarKnight90, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wheres Hogwarts?
- bickdigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I won't bore you to death with the Château de Versailles' gardens and interiors, but the following ones may deserve a click:
Château de Chenonceaux:
http://www.systex.net/~levin/france-2001/06100003.jpg
Château de Chambord:
http://www.arnaudfrichphoto.com/Images/chateau-de-chambord.jpg
Fort Boyard:
http://www.cloverweb.co.uk/images/boyard.jpg - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The Edinburgh Castle pictures completely miss one of the most stunning aspects - the fact that it's right in the middle of the capital city.
- rhys18383, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1http://www.castlewales.com/listings.html
There aren't many... - spazmotron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Carrickfergus Castle is 5 miles from my house. It's a proper old-school castle unlike the modern efforts shown in that link.
Check it out---------> http://cloghmore.bravepages.com/antrim/carrickfergus.html - Caleb83, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1wrong article, man
- silencerider151, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yes, it's true. I was just there 3 days ago, and they'll tell you that while you're there.
The throne room is like a chapel, so you basically worshiped King Ludwig. (If they finished it of course) - Caleb83, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hey Bick, did you ever see that french game show that took place on Fort Boyard? I remember it distinctly. It was basically fear factor minus the eating grubs. Quite a cool show.
- Anthem26, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1They forgot to put Las Vegas' Excalibur on the list...
- trutwin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Vajdahunyad in Budapest (and the Transylvania original) is pretty sweet, especially at night - these pictures don't do it any justice:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vajdahunyad_Castle
Pictures aren't even needed - the name is what makes this one. :) - Spr0k3t, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Burried for the completely gay ass comments (bugle [sic] ringtones)... give me a break.
Interesting castles... they missed quite a few good ones though. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Man, Digg is acting all screwy!
- kevyn, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1you hit the nail on the head - Leamington
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1How can you forget the coolest castle of all time?
The tower of London.
http://europeforvisitors.com/europe/images/plan_england_london_tower_river_view_traitors_gate_hrp_t02.jpg - Amablue, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Dugg for "At Edinburgh Castle, they fire a cannon every day at 1 PM to remind people that cannons are fun."
- codemonkey314, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1WTF!? No Welsh Castles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Sepeteus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1One of my favourites is Olavinlinna in Finland. http://nk.oulu.fi/enorssi/gallery/albumit/album77/Olavinlinna.jpg
FYI those bulges on the towers are toilets. - OropheR, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1And Carcassone in France? The city is inside the castle! I mean this guy did not take the time to study his subject: this list should be 30 or 40 castles long. Diggers are easily impressed. And there are also much cooler castles in anime than the one in He-man.
- grapfx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@ willin
I know, I was kidding. Didn't want to ruin it for the rest of the kids. -
