- shifty2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+64$500!! what the hell is happening to the murder-for-hire business?? You would think that it would be at least $5000. And everyone knows, its half now and half after.
if the cops didnt involved i would have made off with the $400 and then reported her ass anonymously.
How stupid can people get... glad i dont have a myspace account or troll around that crap. - halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35@wurzelgummage
Check that, LESS THAN the price of a PS3. - Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26When I first saw the headline "Woman accused of attempting MySpace hit" I got excited. Myspace definitely deserves to die.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23You've got to be kidding me. $500 for a hit? She must've shopped around!
- gr8one, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Woman: "I see you have a box of Wheaties in your cart"
Detective: "Well it is the breakfast of champions..."
Woman: "I've always thought it should be the "breakfast of assassins."" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Imagine being the 'welfare assassin' at that price, haha.
"How'd this lady die?"...."A spork to the head, sir." - halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19@Veamon
I gotta wonder, is it still fraud if you accept cash for a hit you never intend to perform?
Better yet, if you accept the cash and report the whole mess to the police, do you get to keep the cash? THAT would be a sweet business.
Then again, your business would entail pissing off people who've already demonstrated a willingness to have someone else murdered. Perhaps this isn't the best "Get rich quick" scheme on the market. - mc4_a, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19If someone is offering to kill someone for $500, they are either an undercover cop or stupider than Ashton Kutcher.
I like how she offered $100 on completion of the job. There's an huge incentive to follow through. - ericmoritz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21That's how much you pay a cop to do it. That's what she gets for bargin shopping....
I'm kidding, and I shouldn't joke about this. It would of been really bad if it actually went down. - wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Imagine being killed for the price of a PS3
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Well, sheesh, that's a reason to NOT go with the low-bidder.
- lsdeath, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Hey people have to get their ps3's somehow
- insinuate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I guess its just hard times for hit men these days...gotta take what work comes your way even if it is a measley $500
All in all gotta hand it to em, all their work has been outsourced to the middle east with Al-Qaueda. - pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10$500?!?!
Not to mention, $100 on completion was supposed to be an incentive?! At least $100 and $400 on completion would have made sense...
Jeez, I complain about kids taking all the graphic design jobs, but the bottom has just fallen out of the market for contract killers. I'll remember them next time I'm going to complain about a potential client that opts for the 12 year old down the street. - Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Anyone have the myspace page in question? I wanna see how good looking this woman was....
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Well yeah, plus it was double-coupon day *and* the cop said he'd take any competitor's coupon.
- Smukke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You are officially dugg up just for using the word 'spork' in a public forum.
- halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@ROFISH, @Portside
Unless the hit man is a drug addict, who is desperate for their next hit.
The sad fact of the matter is, people have been murdered for far less. People die because of a cross word or a stray glance at the wrong woman's anatomy. - lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I blame this on ColdFusion(tm) and offensive page layouts.
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12degenerates use myspace what a surprise.
- FastZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Man, I think the comments on this one are more funny that the story itself. Yall guys are hilarious!
- smartssa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8dugg for general a stupid person getting arrested.
- jonathan4465, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's always amazing to me how far people will go due to jealousy! Then again, how much effort did she put into this to only come up with $500 for a hit? Maybe she wasn't all that jealous after all and just wanted her spot back in his Top 8.
- Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -2/+8not that i'm experienced at this or anything but it seems odd to meet at the grocery store. you'd think you meet behind an aldi's or out by the pawn shop or something
- ryansasteroid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Arrest photo and police report: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0914061myspace1.html
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Sweet. I need to set up a hitman website too.
- mbrutsch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7That's what she gets for lowballing her bid. You get what you pay for.
- Portside, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8LMFAO, $500?
You'd have to be pretty desperate hitman to accept a measly $500. - rragle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Looking at that image, no wonder she could only pony up $500. I doubt her trailer is worth that much.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Not sure, wonder if you accept it, if it counts as 'conspiracy to commit' or something.
- 00monkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the way everyone on digg complains about the price of a ps3, it seems all of you would kill for $500
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'd barely scratch myself for $500.
- insinuate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Kendalf
no its not. Believe me, I live in Louisiana, and know plenty of people who live in trailors, and 95% of them look like that. - insinuate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3you have that a little too detailed there buddy...
should we be afraid? - sweetnjguy29, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like how all you guys joke about $500 not being enough money for a hit, but none of you have actually thought the issue through.
According to the Office of Management and Budget, the present value of a human life is around $1.1 million. See http://www.ombwatch.org/article/articleview/616/1/134. I think that covers 30 years of earnings.
I remember reading from Wired if you sold all of the organs in the human body, you could get around $45 million.
But, from a business perspective, you have the cost of the handgun you're gonna leave at the scene (lets say $200 for an untraceable cheapo weapon)...the bullets ($10)...your personal backup weapon ($1200)...desposable getaway car ($500)...time spent planning, tracking and lying in wait, eluding arrest, and laying low ($60/hr figure 2 weeks of preparation @ 40 hrs/wk)...so, we are talkin about $5,000 for a decent job. For a crappy job...no planning...no getaway car...etc...$500 is not so shabby. It is a weeks worth of work for an average joe! - ROFISH, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4$500? You got to be crazy! Generally speaking, it should be the cost of your defense attorneys in case something happens at a bare minimum. The act of murdering a human being is worth AT LEAST $100k, if not more.
- Balgor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"I would take $25 and some slim jims to kill Ashton Kutcher, btw"
Done! - Melr00k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The burning smell of your own tongue after they pull the switch... Priceless.
- skeeto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What's really scary is wondering how many times this type of stupidity actually happens and probably gets blown off as a random act of violence or unsolved murder.
Law of averages figures not everyone thinking about doing this hits the undercover cop jackpot like this witch did. - insinuate, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5@halleyscomet
its a sad world we live in =/ - 6pintsofbitter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4$100k? Seems a bit high, something tells me the Hit for Hire businesses prices aren't set by lawyer fees
- halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8@DigeratiPrime
I'm shocked, shocked I say by this revelation!
What next? Nerds running rampant on Slashdot.org?
Spineless losers who can't assert themselves in real life buying the H2?
And, horror of horrors, will the "Natural and Organic Foods" aisle at the supermarket be overrun with Hippies?!?!?!
What is the world coming to??? - Melr00k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now-a-days with Crack, Meth and the return of Heroin (6100 metric tons!!).
Life, Death, Sex and Drugs are pretty cheap.
My cousin Chantell would gut the bitch for a C-note and the use of your bathroom for a few hours. - Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -3/+4perhaps it wasn't going to be a real hit (in the death sense). perhaps the $500 was just to kill/crash her myspace profile...that would show her
- MobbyG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Shifty2
It's Wal-Mart I tell ya! They have such low prices, everyone has to drop theirs to compete. But do you get as good quality? I doubt it! - irregardless, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1as sad as it is to think about, people have been killed for far less. i've read reports about people being killed for their SHOES.
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@halleyscomet i dont know why you got dugg down i thought it was funny :)
- JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I need $500 for a Nikon D50.
...
Who must suffer an accident? - fak3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1another link, this with a picture of her (hope she doesn't try to have me killed for posting this!)

Also, from yet another link, more details (boyfriend moved out) and some of her sleuthing skillz. Can't find Nathan's myspace page though....
----
Police Detective Jerry Gissel said the boyfriend, Nathan C. Smith, 24, recently moved out of an apartment he shared with Kane and moved in with the other woman.
Kane was arrested Tuesday night shortly after making the deal and faces a charge of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
"During the conversation, she asked (the) detective if he has done this type of thing before," according to police records. "She asked if he was a cop and he said no."
---- - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Damn, murder for hire for $500! Why not just murder someone for their PS3, it'd be cheaper. (Kidding)
