- tehdiggster, on 07/14/2009, -1/+137The real story is just that she couldn't spare a square.
- purplesawdust, on 07/14/2009, -10/+98That person should have had their safety on while handling that gun.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -1/+85It takes special kind of person to accidentally wound someone while using the toilet.
- KarlH, on 07/14/2009, -1/+74It's merely a flush wound.
- MothBoy, on 07/14/2009, -13/+61"A woman in America was accidentally shot..."
OMG, I'M in America too. What a coincidence. I probably know her!
[edited] I just reread the article. The author made a mistake. This woman is from Florida, NOT from America. Those are two totally different places. - inactive, on 07/14/2009, -0/+45A safety is only as good as the weapon it is on, this I would speculate to be a garbage piece as most firearms manufacturers test their actions against the accidental dropping scenario.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -2/+46We should start by removing all the doors on the stalls, should probably put some cameras in there for extra measure along with a security guard to ensure safety and cleanliness.
- Wesside, on 07/14/2009, -3/+43why, they were obviously trying to shoot the person in the stall beside them...
- Inceptious, on 07/14/2009, -5/+38did anyone else read that as "*****"?
- Shazbuckle, on 07/14/2009, -4/+35It's a British newspaper.
British people like to laugh at Americans because of their stupidity. Actually, everyone in the world likes to laugh at Americans xD - wassim2k, on 07/14/2009, -3/+32The real crime here is your use of the English language.
- TomFrost, on 07/14/2009, -0/+26You think you're joking, but back in high school they removed all the stall doors to "discourage drug use". One day a couple guys cracked a toilet off the wall, sat it right in the middle of the hall, and taped a sign on it that said "Might as well ***** right here." Strangely, the stall doors were returned to one of the bathrooms the next day.
- flightcrank, on 07/14/2009, -10/+36only in America
- Spuy767, on 07/14/2009, -0/+26Most pistols and revolvers made by reputable manufacturers can't be fired without a trigger depression because they have integrated safties that won't allow the firing pin to strike the primer unless this safety is disengaged by a pull of the trigger. A notable exception to this being some 1911's.
- chesterogilvie, on 07/14/2009, -0/+24If you're just taking a *****, you should have nothing to hide. Right???
- noahgelman, on 07/14/2009, -3/+25You murdered the English language and you didn't even have a gun
- david286, on 07/14/2009, -8/+29@syntaxgs - How does an accidental shooting equate to more crime? Better check your facts because crime rates go up with gun bans...check the UK and Australia. Also using your logic let's ban all cars because more people die every year in the US because of cars then by guns.
http://www.rmgo.org/images/GunFacts4-2-Press.pdf - Mightbiteyou, on 07/14/2009, -3/+24No I propose we ban Detroit
- sockpuppets, on 07/14/2009, -2/+23How is babby formed?
- Black6x, on 07/14/2009, -0/+20Two things that bother me. The first is the fact that the dropped gun went off. Most guns that I have dealt with have been designed with a form of "drop safety" because a gun being dropped is nothing new.
The second is the "holster" issue. Even my holders (magazine and gun) that do not have an active retention method have some form of passive retention method. I know that I can be completely inverted (semi-violently at that) and retain my weapon in the holster, but that it is enough to come out when drawn.
This just seems like a case of someone who should never have had a gun in the first place. - 4AntiStupid, on 07/14/2009, -0/+19I've heard a number of gun incidents in women's bathrooms from cops. It's usually the new person in plain clothes that hasn't learned the tricks of how to undress in a tight space while carrying a weapon. It's not like you can leave it next to the sink. It's not so much of an issue for the men because they can stand most of the time and men's clothing is simpler. Actual Discharges are the rare event because most guns are designed specifically to survive a drop without going off.
- doctechnical, on 07/14/2009, -6/+24Obvious troll is obvious.
[goes back to cleaning 30-06] - palehorse864, on 07/14/2009, -3/+20"British people like to laugh at Americans because of their stupidity"
Yes, we are well acquainted with the stupidity of the British.
(Just Kidding, but if you are going to insult someone, you shouldn't leave it open like that.) - zoomaKabu, on 07/14/2009, -4/+20Only a POS, Saturday Night Special will fire if you drop it. She pulled the trigger, probably while playing with the gun.
- Ddragonaaa, on 07/14/2009, -14/+30They are too busy being robbed/raped/killed by real criminals with guns.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -4/+20Don,t feed the troll.
- MothBoy, on 07/14/2009, -1/+15Ha ha, its funny because it perpetuates ignorant stereotypes to make you feel better. See, we do still have a lot in common with the Brits.
- MothBoy, on 07/14/2009, -3/+17Speaking of stereotypical egocentric behavior, do you have a clue how big America is and how silly that description was? Florida is larger than England. California is larger than the UK. I am, in fact "in America", yet I live about 3600KM from this woman. Get a map and trace a line 3600KM from your home, and let me know what it covers. Then tell me again how I am the one who is egocentric, yet I know the difference between London, England and Damascus, Syria, but most Brits apparently can't distinguish between Florida and California, let alone the counties and cities within them.
- Stoyanov, on 07/14/2009, -2/+15TERRORIST
- MrZaiko, on 07/14/2009, -1/+14This is a job for the mythbusters...
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -1/+14So you're saying an American wrote it then?
- Lunarbunny, on 07/14/2009, -0/+12A lot of handguns don't have a manual safety, but they're intended to be carried in double-action mode, which in most cases should not allow enough transfer of energy to ignite the primer. A lot of newer weapons feature integral drop safeties and other safeties that should only allow it to fire if the trigger is pulled, but these can fail and do not exist on a lot of older designs.
- UrielScott, on 07/14/2009, -0/+12That's the reason why you should not attempt to catch a handgun if you drop it. There is a substantial risk of negligent discharge and people have been killed as a result.
- veriix, on 07/14/2009, -0/+11I live in Indiana (America) and heard the gunshot.
- overtoke, on 07/14/2009, -3/+14don't forget to wipe
- theartfuldodgr, on 07/14/2009, -0/+11@Shazbuckle: Ireland just passed a law making blasphemy illegal and you're making fun of Americans?
- CarStan, on 07/14/2009, -2/+13was her name Vincent Vega?
- RuffRidr, on 07/14/2009, -5/+16Because they are too busy getting stabbed.
- FitteMas, on 07/14/2009, -5/+15thats one O-ring that wont close for a while
- shig, on 07/14/2009, -1/+11Double-action revolvers *rarely* have external safety mechanisms.
They should have had a retention holster, and carried hammer down instead. - ShitStainedBall, on 07/14/2009, -1/+11You can't spare a square?

CDC estimates show that cars cause 30% more fatalities than guns.
http://webappa.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/nfirates2000.h ...
Last estimate of registered cars 65 million
Last estimate of guns in private hands ~260 million
Seems to me that cars are much more dangerous. Something that has 4x fewer items in use caused 30% MORE fatalites than guns.
Can you really tell me that guns are what needs to be banned? - fandyboy, on 07/14/2009, -0/+9Always be prepared for when ***** happens.
- diggduggjoe, on 07/14/2009, -0/+9http://www.finegael.ie/news/index.cfm/type/details ...
There is plenty of crime in countries with gun bans. The only reason the US has a high rate of gun crime is due to the gangsta lifestyle fueled by illicit drug sales.
Many other crimes are related to the artificially high price of drugs that force addicts to steal to support their habit.
I would love to compare a US with legal drugs and guns to any other country that bans guns. - maxvette, on 07/14/2009, -8/+17We need a law to prevent people from carrying guns into the bathroom!
- areyouserial, on 07/14/2009, -1/+10I see your O-ring and raise you an O-face.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -5/+14Till we come to liberate, thats when the real funny happens. . .. . .
- Spuy767, on 07/14/2009, -0/+9With the hammer down, almost all revolvers have a mechanism that rises up in front of the hammer and doesn't allow the firing pin to extend far enought to strike the primer. All revolvers and any [pistol that supports is should be carried so that they must initially be fired in double action.
- goobly, on 07/14/2009, -2/+11You better be nice to America or we'll bring democracy to your country.
- diggduggjoe, on 07/14/2009, -4/+13About guns and governments, just look at Iraq. A guerrilla war in the US would be very hard on the military. It is one thing to use gas and nukes on the third world. It is a totally different thing to use them against main street USA.
The argument that our weapons do not match the military, just shows how much our stupid gun control laws have weakened us. Automatic assault weapons should be legal to anyone that is trained, has no criminal record or mental problems.
Virtually all gun owners shot nobody over their lifetimes. The nuts who do are either gangsters (drugs) or crazy enough to find other means.
Do you really think McNair's mistress wouldn't have killed him anyway? If he was sleeping, then a knife or some burning bed scenario would have transpired. Guns do not kill people, crazy people do. -
