- zarathustra, on 10/12/2007, -23/+83Does she not see the irony in putting those images on a Hummer? She will honor the memory of her son and others who have died in Iraq by driving a gas guzzler, in a war where the only real purpose was an attempt to secure access to oil for America. America deserves President Bush and his lying cronies!
- D4RKfantasy, on 10/12/2007, -18/+68She has a hummer? I though the wealthy dont have to go to war?
- slyckidiot, on 10/12/2007, -7/+43I guess it's cool she wants to honor the memory of her kid, but this seems kind of tasteless to me. I don't know, I suppose it's up to her really.
- swanny89, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Its actually quite common to see nicer cars in crappy neighborhoods. Smart people know its btter to invest in a nicer house and drive a crappy car: houses appreciate value, cars depreciate.
- marix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30hummer in name only. the h2 and h3 are nothing like the original mil-spec vehicle. the h2 and h3 are basically a suburban and colorado w/ new body work.
- GuyOnOatmealBox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Some people don't deserve the protection of the armed forces. I know where you are coming from, I don't agree with the war either, but the blame does not lie with the soldiers. They didn't enlist to fight for oil...(hopefully) they did it because they want to help protect their country. Blame the politicians that the guy died, but don't trivialize the sacrifice with your ignorant comments.
- h00ligan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23When are people going to read an effin book and realize this war is not "just about oil" - Oil is on the list, but it is CERTAINLY not the be all end all. In fact, a LARGE portion of the reason for the war is exploding right now... yes ladies and gents... Israel.
- gimmegimmenow, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22One does not necessarily have to be rich to own a hummer, especially when the government has been giving tax breaks to owners of hummers and other SUVs.
Plus, many people have been financing vehicles in order to own a car of luxury. You can even go into crappy neighborhoods and see hummers and other expensive vehicles being driven by people who have never completed high school. - nadocollin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Jesus Christ, I have never seen a more idiotic and juvenile comment in my life. Since when were soldiers "retarded" and deserving of death for serving their country? I can understand hating on the war and the presidency if you disagree with them. But the troops? Man.
- pabster, on 10/12/2007, -10/+23Welcome to Digg!
Here even a slow flushing toilet or a blown light bulb is made a political statement against the Bush administration. - DogHumpsMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Whole lot of ***** on Digg today, ain't there? This woman lost her son, who was serving his country honorably. How many of you bashing this woman would be willing to put on a uniform and give your life for something greater than your own selfish little desires? Thought so.
I might not agree with her choice of a memorial, but then I don't need to because it's not about me, nor is it about you. What I do know is that someone went above and beyond to recognize the sacrifice that her son and these other brother Jarheads made, one of whom was her own son, and if this makes her feel better, gives her even a bit of peace, then you should have at least the common decency to respect that. What she lost gives her that right, and it's the exact same reason that I don't fault Cindy Sheehan for what she does, even though I don't agree with her position.
Semper Fi, Marines. - m0oSe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17http://www.fuh2.com
- milesmcgee, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20It's pretty bad when I digg down 9 comments in a row because they are all making fun of someone trying to do something as a memorial to someone they loved. Why don't we just start posting obituaries and making fun of those too?
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16I think the idea is great but having to remember your dead son *every* day would be pretty emotional after a while and what if the car can no longer drive? That would would kinda suck.
- BishopAzrael, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15I'm a grown man, and I've been there over seas during the first war. Some of these comments today...I cannot express to you guys the amount of disgust your attitudes have made me feel. Anger, hate, shame (at being in the same "group")
You guys on digg are so mean, viscious, cruel, uncaring and selfish it makes me cry. I cannot believe you guys would dare to comment on something like this with anything other than "Thank you for your service".
Just ***** believable the lowness of you guys here. This kid died, the person who knew him better than anyone on the planet made a memorial she thought he would approve of, and you guys trash her. I would seriously like to throttle each and every one of you. - hangtown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12It's amazing how little empathy there is for anyone anymore. People like the jackass that says he deserved to die because he went over there don't even know what being human is anymore. If it's not something happening in your own useless lives, it's not important. Nice.
- nadocollin, on 10/12/2007, -13/+23Amen. This woman lost her sons at war, and you all are going to make fun of her taste?
Allow me to illuminate the fact that it is the rest of you that are the tasteless ones. Jeez. - BishopAzrael, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12You guys ..... I am just way beyond words right now. You have shown a true lack of basic morality.
You have said things that you would NEVER have said to her face to face. And I'm not alone. Just... wow. You guys are horrible human beings. This is the equivalent of going to a funeral and laughing and pissing on the coffin in front of everyone. - BishopAzrael, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10awkward? You should be saying thank you ... thats the point. These guys died over there. Whether ornot you hate the war or Bush you had better well pay respect to these fallen hero.
- darkecho, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13"wouldn't her money and energy be better spent sending body armor"
Do you think they don't have this. Its called kevlar, and I know for a fact that they have it. Here's the thing though dip *****, body armor will not help stop a bomb from blowing you to pieces.
ANYBODY who says a negative comment on this, is a complete sack of *****, waist of time and space, especially if you are a so called "American". Now I am not for the war, but the troops don't want to go over there, they were ordered to, and its not like you can just say NO. The military is a bit different the regular life. Those around the military understand what this lady did, while you piece of ***** people leaving these rude comments have no idea whats going on. - mt066, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12I feel like a jerk, but....this is probably not the best way to honor your son. Part of it is accepting what happened and moving on. With this, she will never be able to move on because every time she hops in the car to go to work, the grocery store, whatever, it will be shoved in her face. You can't ignore that thing. Especially if she is driving by herself and daydreaming. I would imagine something like this would eventually lead you to some type of disorder/breaking point. But really unfortunate though...
- sabster, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14That's true. And I don't think 'pimps' is the right word for this article.
- Hellmark, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Its an H3, which costs conciderably less than a H2 or the original Hummer. They cost about $26,000 starting out.
- PaulOwen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Absolutely, BishopAzrael - I agree.
This woman isn't doing it for fun and Airbrushguy didn't do it for free, for fun either.
There's a point to painting the Hummer, remember? She's trying to say something. Forget the why and what for - have the decency to listen and restore my faith in Americans' sense of pride for their fallen soldiers.
Please. - SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -12/+19It's an H2, it's just an overpriced minivan. Her husband is probably eyes deep in debt paying for all her frivolous spending. It's called suburbia.
- Flashman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Yeah, I vote to the left and these comments are even sickening me. As a matter of fact, I'm off to Digg's preferences right now to make the political articles invisible - it's just not worth the frustration to have them in the mix. (Unfortunately this is posted in Offbeat News... bah.)
So, Kevin, cheers for putting that feature into 3.0. - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10These guys died for all you ***** that are leaving the BS comments so show some repsect.
- Hellmark, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11She got a Hummer because that was her son's favorite vehicle.
- darkecho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"all I'm saying is maybe it would help if they bought a fuel efficient car that's all. Does she really need a car that looks like it could easily hold 10 people?"
The point was not to buy a fuel efficient car or one to go joy riding around in. She bought that specific model vehicle because its the kind of car her son liked. The car is also apart of the memory, not just the painting. Its for him not her. If the guy liked Harley Davidson motorcycles, she probably would have bought one, and got that painted, but the son liked Hummers. - siestaguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I was thinking the same thing too : what will she do when the rolling "memorial" is headed off to the scrap heap due to a wreck or simply being so old that it's falling apart? Is she going to drive this thing forever?
- darkecho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"so she could basically be giving money to them... just a though"
So are 99% of us. Does that mean we are supporting them killing our troops.. NO.. Its not like we walk up to a gas station and ask them, is this American gas, or Arab gas?. You are saying that we all support these terrorist countries. - RomeyRome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Ghetto boys & their $70k cars crack me up. Go into their apartment & they're sitting on milk crates or furniture from Rent-A-Center. Yeh...Holla' when your car is all paid for, then you can clown.
- darkecho, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9She was not going for a "nice" vehicle. She bought that, because that was what her son liked. RTFA. Same goes for everybody that is bitching that she shouldn't have bought it. She got it because of her son...
- leonwehttam, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16I dont see whats wrong with you people, shes honoring her dead son and others killed with him and you turn it into something political...
- foofightrs777, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I feel bad commenting this but:
"I love it," she said. "I'm really impressed with it, and I think John would be happy with the vehicle. He would have a big smile on his face because he loved Hummers."
....Oh my, double meanings - link470, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9agreed, good call. I've been digging down comments all over this thread. its pretty sad. dugg yours though.
- pseudojd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7it's an H3.... Hardly a Hummer in my opinion.
- darkecho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6you were a huge waist of your parents money. she wanted to honor her son, as well as the other people that died because of that IED.
"Plus, as others have mentioned, it will just keep on reminding her of her loss. It would probably make it take longer to get over."
And yet there is the Vietnam Memorial Wall. They both are serving the same purpose. To remind people, that U.S. troops died at war. - thaldex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Maybe she doesn't want to ''get over'' her son? Perhaps she doesn't want to forget that she had him, eh? Jackass.
- jeremy66158, on 10/12/2007, -10/+14Woman pimps her son to fight oil war for Hummer...Sad joke but true when you look at the big picture...on her hummer.
- thaldex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I can't help but agree. My two younger brothers served in both Afghanistan and Iraq during the heaviest fighting in both countries. While I am - in no sense of the word - a supporter of the war, wishing the troops there who are only doing their jobs just makes me sick. Some of the comments here are simply appalling and you should be ashamed of yourselves.
I seriously doubt that you'd have the balls to say what you've written here to this woman's face. I hate the war and everything it stands for behind the scenes, but I'd still support the troops and wish them the best. They should all be lucky enough to come home safely. This woman's child didn't. That's a tragedy. Attacking her choice to remember him (H3 irony and all) is pathetic. - mrjoshuanc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It's actually an H3, and while it has a 20 gallon tank and you're paying 60 to fill it, you're getting closer to 18-19mpg avg. Inline-5 engine doesn't really guzzle all that much.
- alexdagrate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Look, if you want to help the troops, here's a short list:
1) Only send them into war when it is just.
2) Give them the proper equipment, numbers, and plan of action.
3) Provide them with adequate services when they come home, and provide for their families when they don't come home - leva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That cars not really that bad with gas. In construction, trucks are commonly left idling(well some are dieseling), Lincolns get about 18MPG, there are so many vehicles that get worse gas milage than this H3. ANyway chill people.
- darkecho, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10that is probably one of the lowest comments someone could have said. stfu .. can tell your not from america
- darkecho, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9what irony? she bought a Hummer, got it painted, and drives it around. Just like everybody who has a vehicle, that is painted ( i have yet to see one thats not) and drives the car around. So ***** what its a hummer, it was the kind of vehicle her son liked. there is no irony
- jeremy66158, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Taste...you are looking at the wrong kind of people to find taste.
- tpwiz4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3These posts are pathetic. This woman wants to remember her son and you all mock her for it and says he deserved to die? I guess that means you all want these soliders fighting these wars deserve to die. I don't give a crap about the irony or whatever government crap you all spit out of your mouths because this was not what the article was originally about.
Oh, and it's REAL cool to sit behind a computer and act like you're all tough. - Flynnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3and who the hell are you to say how she should honor her son?
Are you really that pompous? - Flynnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3no doubt
I just want to say that I am so sick of the left and right...the right for all the privacy ***** they are trying to pull (or lack there of I should say) and I hate the left cause they have almost no morals. The bottom line is the extreme left feel uncomfortable with our military. If this country was 100% liberal, we would have no military at all. Anything that reminds them of just how weak they are, they have to lash out about it. And I guess that includes this poor lady that wanted to honor her son. Face it...any of you who are talking ***** about this lady, would also most likely NEVER have the balls to do what her son did. Hell most of you probably dont have the balls to work security at the mall! This is just as bad as when oreily yells at victims loved ones from 911. SHOW SOME RESPECT. -
