If one asks "What are the odds that Neo's passport expiration date was shown as 9/11/2001?", it's a case of the number of possible dates they could have chosen out of the few years in front of when the movie was made (so it would be pretty unlikely).
But if you ask, "What are the odds that somewhere, in any film or television show, made before the date of a significant tragedy, that that was the expiration date shown on a character's passport?", it becomes much less extraordinary. And all the IDs that don't have significant dates get ignored.
As to the fact that 9/11 and The Matrix share the theme of a grand conspiracy, it's just a coincidence. The fact that The Matrix is hugely popular and known for hidden gags makes it more likely that someone somewhere will notice obscure references in it. - lead2thehead, on 08/16/2008, -1/+69The federal government does not issue passports 365 days a year.
