- GlennCase, on 11/14/2007, -3/+108This story is really just a different way of expressing John Gabriel's Greater Internet Dickwad Theory:
Normal Person + Anonymity + Audience = Total Dickwad - unearth, on 10/30/2007, -1/+49You beat me to it, *****
- HunterTV, on 10/14/2007, -9/+57***** you you ***** homophobic ***** ***** *****.
Dick. - jshayne, on 10/13/2007, -6/+46It's true! Just watch as people start to flame this article. Or my comment even. Or the font on your website. Speaking of which - Man, what's with that font? Is that Arial - wow -- so cliche.
Great artwork and haiku though -- this site is a brilliant idea! - pimpbot1979, on 11/14/2007, -1/+40The internet is wonderful! It has let me meet some of the kindest, most deserving people down on their luck in Nigeria who only needed a few bucks to make ends meet.
I wished there was an easier way to donate to the less fortunate than sending my bank account and routing numbers but whatever. - fkr3, on 10/14/2007, -3/+38It's "For *****'s sake" retard.
- razishaban, on 10/12/2007, -21/+54You ***** *****
- kingkilr, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33For ***** sake, use commas!
- Rikushix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30I love you.
- harrisonferrel, on 11/14/2007, -4/+27The headline says it ALL. The Internet is a double edged sword. It's great because the mainstream media is just a corporate propaganda piece that promotes the dimmest forms of news and entertainment. So the Internet is the best source for news. It is also a great source for intelligent exchange. But then there's the unintelligent exchange. It is too often a forum or vehicle for idiotic comments written by people who are immature, uninformed, mean-spirited, overly aggressive, racist, narrow-minded and rude. I have seen comments about filmmaking written by individuals who do not have a clue of how a film is written or made. I have seen comments by people who make lewd and immature sexual remarks about attractive girls without any provocation. I have read comments that fly in the face of research-based science, history, psychology and politics. It's as if all the trolls and moles have stepped out of their damp cells, grabbed a computer and retreated once again, but now armed with a voice to the outside world coming from their anonymous personas.

- MonAmieNina, on 10/30/2007, -3/+25It's all the sad repressed people who really hate their life and don't have enough guts to tell their boss or whomever to suck it. All that stored aggression makes its way to random peoples blog comments.
- BrapAllgood, on 10/13/2007, -5/+24Of course it's true: it's always easier to be bigger and more powerful in the imaginary world.
- capiCrimm, on 10/30/2007, -5/+24your only saying that because your a ***** with a tiny penis. Your lucky I don't beat your skull in with this keyboard.
- HAMMERotheGODS, on 11/14/2007, -3/+21This doesn't apply to me. I'm an angry ***** all the time.
- capiCrimm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17that's not fair, no cheap shots.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -3/+19Don't ***** Swear Pricktards!
- Nodaki, on 11/14/2007, -11/+27Douchebags are typically wet...so they couldn't be flaming. Buried as innacurate.
- narutometal, on 11/14/2007, -2/+15Not everyone is a douchebag. There's like 0.01% of the internet population that is actually mature and makes constructive and worthwhile contributions.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/30/2007, -2/+14Actually, his site is kind of stupidly artsy and obnoxiously laid out. Like most personal sites and blogs.*
*Real life translation: Cool site! I personally prefer a little more of a clean, modern, but not template-like look, but the art is interesting. Good luck with that site, dude! - unorginalityftw, on 10/13/2007, -2/+13*****
- Dokument, on 10/13/2007, -3/+14***** you.
- Enochyang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I think this douchebag phenomenon also derives from the fact that most people always assume the guy on the other end of the monitor is some scrawny nerdy little *****.
I've never EVER come across somebody on a forum, online game, xbox live or a chatroom and thought to myself, "Hmm..this guy sounds like he might be a 250 pound football player. I better watch what I say around him." Instead, I'm probably thinking "I'm going to break into this guys' parents house, kick down the basement door and beat the living ***** out of this lil' trash-talking 5th grader." - mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12***** YOU AND YOUR CAPLOCKS!
- Djchicken, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14***** YOU YOU DOUBLE POSTING RETARD! DON'T YOU KNOW HOW TO USE THE INTERNET?
- toxicityj, on 11/14/2007, -0/+10based on title alone, i thought this was going to be a maddox article.
- Dokument, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12They can be if they are soaked in gasoline.
- AdHaR, on 10/30/2007, -0/+10***** you and your Ron Paul *****...
- Myztry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9On the Internet you can get a 'safe' audience.
If real life, you can get a punch in the nose.
But it's not just a human thing.
Both my huge Labrador dogs barks with gusto at anything the other side of the gate.
But inside, they get ignored by the cat, or claws across for their noses when pushy.
Need to say, they don't bark at the cat. Their small natural enemy. - inactive, on 10/13/2007, -0/+9well, driving a car makes me a flaming ***** too...
- schnikies79, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Very true. The internet can be broken into two parts very easily. 10% useful, 90% *****. The people on the net are no different.
Don't know where I fit in. I'm a jackass in real life. - p0tent1al, on 11/14/2007, -0/+8then the title would be "Why Everyone Except Me Is A Flaming Douchebag on the Internet"
- dunderballer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I think people are more apt to express many emotions on the internet than they are in the the real world. Look how often sad stories make the front page that we might be less inclined to chat with our buddies about around the water cooler. So not only does the anonymity break down the resistance for us to become hostile but also the barriers for us to talk about cute kitties and sad stories.
- Dundasbro, on 10/13/2007, -0/+7I agree.
- RuffRidr, on 10/30/2007, -4/+11I've been on here a bit, and I've never seen one polite message from you, ever. I really don't believe that it is in your nature, and I truly believe you are a douche like this in real life as well. The person I feel bad for is any wife/girlfriend you have that has too put up with your inane ramblings on a daily basis.
- MonAmieNina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You're right in that telling your boss off might not be the smartest thing to do, but doing it on the internet is precisely what makes "a douchebag" a douchebag. It's lame, cowardly, and just plain juvenile. Sure, anonymity might make you more honest at times, and constructive criticism is usually appreciated, but it's the truly inane comments that are the douchebag signature.
- Innagadadavida, on 10/30/2007, -1/+6You're an idiot.
Wait... Perhaps I should have insulted him on a different article; given the circumstances. - SquigglyP, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5no, he's really an idiot, it's ok in this case.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5One more link to the Greater Internet ***** Theory cartoon on Penny Arcade please. I haven't seen enough of them. Maybe some of you could mirror that for us, too. *****.
- atdigg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9and under anonymity?
- silverchrysalis, on 10/13/2007, -3/+7you can just give those numbers to me, i'll make sure they get into the right hands
- SquigglyP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm not really much different on the net. I don't talk much in 'real life', so the anonymity gives me that, at least, but i TRY not to be that random internet ***** person that a lot of people turn into. I do it sometimes, but even on Digg i try to just debate and not leave too many single-line rants. I go off sometimes, but everyone gets pissed off now and then. On forums i try to help people and stuff... i dunno... maybe i'm weird.
- rda1441, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is offensive to those of us who are equally offensive online as well as in real life...
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, because network news never shows up on digg.com
Seriously, network news sucks, but most of the stuff on digg that isnt written by journalists, scientists, or professionals... sucks bad for accuracy. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually, I was expecting this to link to Gabriel's Greater Internet ***** Theory. Glad somebody posted it.
- unearth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Being a productive member of internet society and being an over-the-top immature ***** are not mutually exclusive. There are so many ways that I could call someone a retard, imply I had sex with their mother, and question their sexuality while still presenting a coherent and genuine idea, reaction, or criticism.
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think it has a lot to do with anonymity but I also think it has a lot to do with the inability of everyone else to talk out of turn. You can express your thoughts in full composition with no chance of a stutter or anyone to interrupt what you are saying. Your emotion can be delivered with the utmost charisma. With that, why not be something not everyone can be but a lot strive for... the smart ***** and express your self-proclaimed dominance throughout the world?
- SquigglyP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wife? girlfriend?
i mean, even if he IS a dick, he's a Digg user, man.... a DIGG USER!!
The odds are already stacked against him. - unorginalityftw, on 10/13/2007, -1/+4[insert derogatory comment about everyones mother here]
