- sarazen, on 11/16/2007, -4/+597With the NSFW I was expecting something raunchy, but that was touching and sad.
- bralynn, on 11/16/2007, -24/+504Apparently she was married to Han Solo.
- CaptainSponge, on 11/16/2007, -4/+310that's seriously romantic. Very SFW and beautiful.
- t4k3n, on 11/16/2007, -13/+262I think people are getting this mixed up .. clearly she is frozen in carbonite..
- inactive, on 11/16/2007, -10/+221Great woman, and obviously a great man.
- PATSCRU, on 11/16/2007, -1/+209yeah, if this is NSFW, then we should ban looking at classical greek sculpture at work also. Really sad.
- t4k3n, on 11/16/2007, -1/+178its not like she is spread eagle with a cucumber... its a show of devotion and love.. just because its nude doesn't make it disrespectful.
- Steaminx, on 11/16/2007, -5/+161That is stunning.
- MunkeeBoy, on 11/16/2007, -5/+142Call me Emo but I think I'd almost cry if I saw that for real... What a beautiful sentiment...
- bralynn, on 11/16/2007, -20/+136Damn you Boba Fett, can't you just leave people alone?
- Groovemaster, on 11/16/2007, -4/+110Is the Venus de Milo also NSFW? :|
- Calcularius, on 11/16/2007, -4/+110If this is NSFW, your job must suck.
- Rikushix, on 11/16/2007, -2/+95That's really sweet.
And, just my opinion I'm throwing out here, but I didn't think that was NSFW. Or maybe it is, and I would be a really bad boss. - Seifey, on 11/16/2007, -3/+92Keeps the zombies where they belong.
- Darkhacker, on 11/16/2007, -1/+79I think it is SFW. This is something that I wouldn't mind showing a teacher at school.
- john2kx, on 11/16/2007, -10/+86Damn, she encased herself naked in carbonite... That's hardcore.
- Ricky8765, on 11/16/2007, -2/+76This is why I'm so sick and tired of our country's priorities... We can show kids all the violence in the world in easily obtainable video games, tv shows on every channel and movies whose ratings are so bizarre its unbelievable, but GOD FORBID our kids see and understand their own anatomy and that of the opposite sex.
- CDRaff, on 11/16/2007, -1/+71I hope that when I die my wife feels for me how his wife felt for him. This is one of the most beautiful expressions of love I have ever seen.
- estacado, on 11/16/2007, -3/+60Yeah. For all we know, you could be one too.
- kgool, on 11/16/2007, -7/+63My luck I will end up with a sculpture of my wife leaning over my grave, bitchin' at me even after the end.
- crichton101, on 11/16/2007, -5/+60artless? you apparently wouldn't know artistic talent from your *****.
- antitab, on 11/16/2007, -1/+50There's a very conservative kid in my art class that gets very uncomfortable and upset when we view nude paintings and sculptures. I took it upon myself to inform him that any possible sexual connotation is only one that he created in his own perverted, aesthetically unrefined mind. He didn't take to that comment too well.
- UnlikelyHero, on 11/16/2007, -9/+56I saw it, and started weeping after about 3 seconds. What an outpouring of love and emotion, bare to the world. Unashamed unabashed love. That hits you in a very raw spot. It looks like she's trying to meld into the stone.
- MrFluffZ, on 11/16/2007, -2/+49What commitment towards each other. Truly beautiful.
- scallon, on 11/16/2007, -0/+41Yes. I would love to have a sculpture of my wife on my grave like this. Showing she never wants me to be alone. How can you not see how beautiful this is?
- ChromaVita, on 11/16/2007, -0/+40Costal areas, or other reigons that have really high water tables (Florida for example) often have shallower graves. If the water tables rise during flooding or something, caskets have been known to float to the surface. I believe in New Orleans they have a concrete slab of some sort over the casket to keep it from coming up.
- antitab, on 11/16/2007, -1/+39***** the macho holding back ***** we've been conditioned to force ourselves to do. This is worth a tear and a half to anyone who has ever experienced the kind of love that persists throughout time, space, and interpersonal drama. The thought of a certain female in my life doing something like this for me – as someone who is very sensitive to the concept of death – is overwhelmingly emotional. Don't choke back the tears. You're most likely alone at a computer; let it the ***** out. Not a damn thing wrong with that. People feel. And as I said a bit up, death and love are probably the single two most powerful forces in the realm of human experience.
- gnick, on 11/16/2007, -3/+40Touching and beautiful. But, depending on where you work, even classical Greek sculpture could be contraband. Sad but true - I appreciate the NSFW warning, even when it's overly conservative.
- alwilson, on 11/16/2007, -1/+37Must be nice to have a wife to love you so much. My wife, instead of laying on top of my grave, would be laying on top of another man.
- cozza, on 11/16/2007, -0/+34It's in Australia, graveyards like this one are fairly common here.
Details from the scultor's page:
http://www.users.bigpond.com/SCHIP/asleep.htm - prgmctan, on 11/16/2007, -3/+36I dugg you down for that
- doogy2004, on 11/16/2007, -3/+35Dugg for Google Docs!
- captinherb, on 11/16/2007, -1/+32Does anyone know what kind of graveyard this is? I haven't seen one like this. It seems all the graves have a raised platform above where the body should be, are they buried shallower or something, or is it just a style?
- p0ss, on 11/16/2007, -5/+35Emo!
me too... - Namco, on 11/16/2007, -5/+34Youre missing the apostrophe
- scallon, on 11/16/2007, -2/+31Youre missing the point
- Ricky8765, on 11/16/2007, -0/+28And now either you'll get dugg down for that and I'll get dugg up for this
or
you'll get dugg up for the sole reason of contradicting my comment, in which I will now get dugg down - funwithphobias, on 11/16/2007, -0/+27I'm sorry that the human body is inherently offensive to you.
- FoxOrian, on 11/16/2007, -1/+27There's always one of you tasteless bastards.
- mjhamilton, on 11/16/2007, -0/+25If you work in Utah it is.
- inactive, on 11/16/2007, -3/+28The female anatomy belong under a burka. Bunch of infidels!
/sarcasm - pseudononymist, on 11/16/2007, -2/+26People aren't uncomfortable viewing nude bodies only for sexual reasons. Religions that teach us to be ashamed of bodies are equally culpable
- carterbaldwin, on 11/16/2007, -3/+25partly buried for trying to imitate Jabba the Hutt, but mostly for just failing.
- antitab, on 11/16/2007, -1/+22Dude, I'm on the verge of tears just looking at it and the comments (the sincere and non-Star Wars ones, anyway). Nothing to be ashamed of – death and love are probably the single two most powerful forces in human existence.
- Xondar, on 11/16/2007, -0/+21I'd want it in the background of my funeral.
- acceptab1euname, on 11/16/2007, -3/+23You're an ass. I'd give a vital organ to find a woman who loved me so much she'd put her nude stone equivalent on top of my final resting place for however long my grave managed to stay around.
- Namco, on 11/16/2007, -2/+22Youre missing the apostrophe the period and maybe a comma
- EdgarVerona, on 11/16/2007, -4/+23Damn you Vader!
- crestfall, on 11/16/2007, -1/+20If anyone finds a link to a story, please post it. These people deserve a wiki. I would love to read about their lives. There is a bit in the comments at flicker
http://www.flickr.com/photos/omnia/125051655/
but it's pretty vague, and could just be a tale to go with the pic. -
