- imitrust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+132I'd only spend thousands if it floated in that exact fashion
- typo180, on 10/12/2007, -8/+87A double flip phone? That'd be a nightmare to use. Especially when you're trying to talk on it and the hinges keep flipping back. It's a cool video, but not a practical design.
(it's also several months old) - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -9/+55It's gorgeous. The only problem is that Apple has come right out and said that the iPhone will be a candybar phone, not a flip phone, and unfortunately not this wonderful double flip phone. Someone had better make this thing, anyways.
- dyvbond, on 10/12/2007, -10/+53wow...does it come with or without levitation?
- tnoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41I have a hard enough time keeping track of my phone now; I'd prefer not having to look up in the air for it too
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+45I definitely wouldnt be spending thousands.
Also.. I don't want a phone where the company logo is going to be that huge, regardless of the company. - The_Wallbanger, on 10/12/2007, -15/+52It's really ingenious design. The fold-out design manages to incorporate four functional faces in a predominantly two-sided structure, while at the same time shielding the sensitive interface keys from external elements.
- 5hoe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Song is: "In the Waiting Line" by Zero 7, if anyone is curious.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28realistically the iphone will not come close to 30GB. It will most likely be like a nano around 8GB or so.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20That looked really over-complicated.
- Recluse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18@Hemingrubbish
Because phones are for making phone calls not for watching movies. - xniL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Wow...thats the future of technology right there...
..The flying, not that other crap. - sinfony, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Proof positive that people prefer looks to functionality. Seriously, a touch screen phone? Phones need to be able to withstand everyday, somewhat rough use. I trust that the real Apple designers know that; fanboys with mock-up videos, on the other hand...
- kevin.gc, on 10/12/2007, -26/+35"Wowwwwww..."
As a Swiss Army iPod.
"Ewwwwwww..."
As a phone. Who wants touch screen buttons? I prefer tactile feedback. - artgon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8How do you talk to people?? I didn't see any speaker/mic...
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Thousands.....really?
It's cool, but I wouldn't spend thousands on it. Maybe a few hundred...but not thousands. - dyl0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Forget the looks, how does it fly?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sorry, but folding out from both ends for a phone is just too complex of a design for a phone. Remember that at the heart the iPhone is still just that, a phone. When I get a call, I don't want to be fiddling with my phone, not to mention be forced to use both hands to open it up. Also, I can see those hinges getting worn down fast, as they are not the same as a regular flip phone's hinges (yes, they could be spring loaded but still).
Also, this phone's design isn't really intuitive for talking. If it's open all the way to talk, there would be problems with your face affecting the touch screen and pressing buttons accidentally. If one half is to remain closed (bottom half), then once again, you're looking at hinge issues b/c the top would have to stay halfway open, but also be able to fold all the way back. The design provides good real-estate for the screen, but Apple's general strategy is usually about simplicity and this design just doesn't provide that... - n1cza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I instantly recognized it from the Garden State OST : )
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6you do know this video is almost a year old right? There is no way it has anything to do with any design concepts that were on digg.
- jarvuss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Cool idea, but I agree, doesn't seem all that functional as an everyday phone. Plus with the wheel on the back and the screen on the front, how are you going to navigate your music without constantly flipping through the phone over. I guess you could use the "touch screen" but then why have a wheel... yeah this is complicated.
- trakais, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5the scroll wheel is on the other side of the screen, plus the camera next to it looks awful. so there could be some improving
- javip, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9wow
i've never bought anything apple, but that, I would buy - Spo8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I personally wouldn't like it too much. As someone who uses text messaging a lot, I just can't imagine using something that doesn't give a bit and produce a click when it's pushed. Double letters would abound.
- tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Listened to twit, and they mentioned this. It looks really sexy, but the design for a cell phone seems kind of hard to use.
- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9First off, this is the official Google video entry:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3168733759916419298&q=italk&hl=en
It contains the link to the official website for Christopher DeSantis.
http://www.christopherdesantis.com/
This is an old video now, but more importantly, the link this Digg points to wrong, and the website mentioned overlayed on the video, and in the video notes, is just a traffic collector. I'm thinking it has ALWAYS been a traffic collector too, as it just redirects to another traffic collector URL for a different domain name. Come on, people. Let's get it right. Marked as "SPAM" so as not to promote stealth ninja spam. - cockmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4whoever says this is ingenius must have trouble comprehending usability over design. sure it has everything you want, but who the hell is gonna be flipping all these damn lids every time they're watching a movie and the phone rings....or vice versa. it's a complicated mess and apple knows better.
- stacky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I personally think it would work better if the clickwheel was on the other side of its panel. but awesome nonetheless.
- sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4But can it play Pong?
- progidy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i whole-heartedly agree.
also, when using the clickwheel to play music, you're staring at the camera lens (if both halves are open) or half of the video screen (if just the clickwheel is open). - xymor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8"Get rid of the keypad, use a huge touch sensitive screen."
I've been trying to get a cell phone/ video player/ web browser like that for years.
Now, that's a portable media center.
And 8GB should be good enough, if they support flash cards.
But my number 1 concern is battery duration. - Chicken2nite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree and was going to post as such, but then I saw your post. The click wheel serves no purpose on the back of the touch screen, and when it's closed, you would have no input device to fiddle with your music with the smaller screen on the outside.
Very silly design mistake. I mean, when you have access to the click wheel, you can't see what it is you're changing. absolutely silly. - trigger0219, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4where does the battery go? or do you hook it up to a DieHard.... thing better come with connectors!
- osc1882, on 10/12/2007, -12/+15With, but you have to pay extra thru the phones "Iphone Store" and it's fully DRM'ed so you can't save that option should your battery die.
- jdog2050, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I really don't care how the iPhone looks; I've been in South Korea for a year and it's really starting to make me sad how behind the U.S. is on certain technologies the rest of the world is starting to take for granted. As long as the iPhone trumps stuff in Asia, I'll be proud of them.
- theRIAA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2amazing
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wow.. very.. very.. old. You'd think the Apple-obsessed Digg audience (including me) would have seen this long before.
Anyway, there's a much better quality version at the conceptual designer's website. - bigbchew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is honestly months old for some of us..
This was mentioned again on TWiT by Leo who basically can't keep up sometimes and BAM
front page of digg. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Read the message at the beginning. It's just a conceptual design that has no connections to Apple. They are just showing off.
(though it's difficult to read at this crappy video quality.. go directly to their website for a better quality) - SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seen it before, was a while ago too. Cool idea but still no real iPhone...
- Justinguder2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2cool but old story
- davidod87, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9The background song for this ad is awesome. It's "In the Waiting Line" by Zero 7 - iTunes says I've listened to it 40 times now.
Oh, and awesome ad. - nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, if it looked like that, you WOULD be spending thousands on it...
- Xanin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3the battery would probably last about 2 hours
I want a motofone :D - Picard102, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you'd spend thousands on a phone you have some issues.
- fastsix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why are you messing with the fantasy? We know about the reality. Don't ruin the fantasy, OK?
- blackplastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As people have mentioned this is old... (http://www.digg.com/apple/iTalk_iPod_phone_concept_ad is one place, but there are already LOADS of stories for this). It should also be in the Apple section, non?
- MrColdheart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want that...
umm I wouldnt spend "thousands"
marketing guy must have submitted that. - mranissimov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In before more retards saying they'd buy it if it levitated.
- davidod87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now *this* is worth (a) thousand (or at least it sells for that much).
