- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -0/+18I was in High School. I wanted tail for Christmas
- Freonce, on 11/14/2007, -3/+21Man, that Voltron is pretty sweet.
I love the fact that I got to type that sentence today.
:D - Darren05, on 11/14/2007, -1/+18Holly ***** this: http://www.x-entertainment.com/articles/wishbook/u ... is freakin' huge.
- necbone, on 11/14/2007, -0/+9'85, what a hot year..... pound puppies, dinobots, gi joes.... poor kids nowadays...
- lhbaker, on 11/14/2007, -0/+8The kids are tiny A foot tall, at best. They also work as models for Wal-Mart's above-ground swimming pools.
- estacado, on 11/14/2007, -0/+8The old Transformer toys are way cooler than the new ones.
- ZenMojo, on 11/14/2007, -0/+8Grrr...FLAAAAGG!!!!! That was the ultimate toy.
- thebellmaster1x, on 11/14/2007, -0/+8Yeah, a rock tumbler! I've been needing something to polish my rocks.
...>_> - dicerandom, on 11/14/2007, -0/+7I had that thing, I swear it was made of lead filled cast iron or something. The lion heads were spring loaded shot off, which encouraged shooting it at siblings. And, if you're firing lion heads, you might as well throw the whole 20lb toy, right?
It's amazing that my brother is still alive, really. - tomtucker378, on 11/14/2007, -0/+7I was 8. I wanted tail too.
- Cinaga, on 11/14/2007, -0/+7I actually did have one of those when I was a kid. That photo does do it justice...it was that huge. It had to go in a corner of our living room. It was one of the first things that company noticed when they walked in the door.
- MrZaiko, on 11/14/2007, -0/+6I dont care how old you are right now... If someone hands you any toy you desired so bad in the 80's and even early 90's. I GUARANTEE you will secretly play with them.
- gmiley, on 11/14/2007, -0/+6Secretly nothing... I would play with transformers in the middle of a meeting if I thought I wouldn't get fired over it. =p
- slayerab, on 11/14/2007, -1/+6I wasn't even born yet, but toys in the early 90's weren't too bad. Sucks for youngsters now.
- aburd, on 11/14/2007, -0/+5I wish I had your childhood. I wanted that thing so damn bad.
- Asianwaste, on 11/14/2007, -0/+5Pssshah, they didn't make toys in the 90's the way they made them in the 80's. Nowadays all kids want these days are videogames. No imagination anymore. On a side note, I'd like a Wii for Christmas.
- syroncoda, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4i ***** loved voltron. diggage for nothing but voltron 5 piece MEGA ROBOT SUPER DOO!
- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4http://www.wishbookweb.com/
This site has some various catalogs scanned... there are some 80's Sears wish book catalogs toward the bottom. - frepnog, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4ok hate me now.
i had the u.s.s. flagg.
i ***** you not.
that came from my parents being divorced and dad was buying my love. i loved him so much that year. well, actually every year, i had the sky striker, the rattler, the MOBAT, the original GI Joe base, the dragonfly, some big ass purple and green cobra boat, the WHALE, the SHARC, god i had so much GI Joe ***** that it was rediculous. I wish to god i still had it all, I went in the navy and gave all the toys away to nephews and cousins and *****, not realizing the things would be worth a virtual fortune today. BTW, you pretty much could crawl up inside that damn aircraft carrier. God help me, it was awesome.
had that voltron, too. i would have sawed my mom's ***** hand off if she had tried to take it away from me because of lead paint. - serpentor, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4I so wanted Omnibot when I was a little kid in the 80s... it was just cruel for Sears/JC Penney to even put that in the catalog, knowing that 0.1% of all American kids had families who could splurge on such a gift..
- mrch0mp3rs, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4Ditto. If someone close to me procures the USS Flagg off of Ebay, I guarantee you I'm taking off of work for a few days just to play.
- badqat, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4Actually, I'd say when you factor in inflation, it's closer to the PS3, the Wii and the 360 all in one.
$935.80 in today's dollars...which would get you a PS3 ($399), a Wii ($249) and an 360 ($279) with almost $9 to spare... - yourmightyruler, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4I want that Transformers fort. Perfect for hotboxin'.
- superKduper, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3In 1985, I was two years out of college. I think an HP calculator would have been high on my list. And an IBM PC-XT
- SatansSpatula, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3That was part of its cunning trickery...
- chaos7, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3do you guys remember that ERECTOR SET toy? in the commercials they'd press a button on a yellow box and a car would change into a helicopter like magic. i used to really think it would happen at the press of a button. instead you had to build each one. i remember my mom got it for me and i was upset it didn't change upon button presses and she said we could return it if i wanted.
- Schmapdi, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3That He-Man base he had listed was lame. I remember seeing one that was freaking Huge - it had some sort of monorail type thing that swooped all around it too.
He also left of the Transformer of my dreams, the billion dollar (adjusted for inflation) 4 foot tall Headmaster Fortress Maximus. I would have killed a bus of nuns to get that thing. And Snarl, the stegosaurus, was the best dinobot. Grimlock was a retard. - Asianwaste, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3"AAAAUUUUGH"
"Need the outlet for a rock tumbler."
"Plug it in! Plug it in!"
"What the rock tumbler or the TV?"
"The TV, The TV!!" - Asianwaste, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3The internets
- DiogenesJr, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3I wanted that aircraft carrier in the worst way! I thought my dreams would come true when I entered a contest put on by the local television station where top prize was ownership of the USS Flagg! Alas, I learned two valuable lessons that year: I would never win anything ever and my parents despised me for depriving me of that toy. I guess that's what I get for depriving them of their best years...
- bedouin, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3No slot cars? Blasphemy.
http://www.wishbookweb.com/1985_SearsWishbook/imag ... - scabbers, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2Wow x-entertainment are still going!
- gadgetmouse, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2X-E doesn't get dugg enough. Matt is a freaking genius when he actually decides to write something.
- badjoke, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2I always wanted that huge volcano base Mighty Max playset.
- Asianwaste, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2I had the body. The body itself was really self-sustaining as a transformable toy. The thing was also 80% metal and weighed like a brick. Don't drop it on your 4 year old shins and feet.
Oh yea... one more thing. Women are like Voltron, the more you add, the better it is. - toxicshok, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2pound puppies burned real hot.
- teamparadox, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2I have a very fond memory, dont recall the year but it was mid 80's. I had a copy of the Sears holiday catalog and it had about 60 pages of toys. I would gaze in awe on an almost daily basis at that book for hours trying to decide what I wanted that year. Amazing thinking back how entertained i was by the pictures of the toys...they were more fun then the toys ended up being. I still have that massive Voltron from the catalog pictured, my other smaller one was taken away when my Mother got a call saying it was laced with lead paint..good thing i never liked putting ***** in my mouth.
- gmiley, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2I still have my Voltron, tucked away in my air-conditioned storage unit. Now that I think about it, I really should go check on it, it's been a while since I held and caressed its sleek, shiny surface...
- JasonsLan, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2did you just say youngsters? how old are you? 19 ?
- shimmyNshake, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2There it is. Behold.
http://www.wishbookweb.com/1985_SearsWishbook/imag ... - Gustomucho, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2oh man Dinobot, I had a flashback when I saw them. My parents were coming home from hawai in emergency because my grand-father died. I was playing with that toy waiting for them to arrive. It was in 87. I owned the Voltron one too.. The omnibot was hot, I wanted one so much..
- DDION, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2That was-the golden age for toys man
- lunarworks, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2A friend of mine got most of those toys when I was a kid. He even had the OMNIBOT.
Of course, his parents were loaded... - bratterscain, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2It's typical of XE. I usually like the backgrounds. Not everything has to look like Web 2.x.
- Canadian0207, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2these kinds of toys spurred childrens' imaginations. it's a shame they dont have toys like this anymore
- leif77, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1I was wondering if someone was going to mention Mighty Max... god i loved mighty max... i was fortunate enough to have that volcano thing... wasted more hours on that than most of the video games i own today...
- obxjdt, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1you have no clue do you?!?!
What part of "Born in 1966, I can totally identify with this article!!!" do you not understand??? - deese64, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1Memories.
- micahglasser, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1I never did get my Voltron. That Christmas I wanted the GI JOE hovercraft and Voltron. I didn't get either but I did get Devistator and the Cobra "water moccasin". Not bad over all. But I was envious of friends who had the all metal Voltron. It was so cool.
- Graeleight, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1I was in college. I wanted beer.
