Though your comment is factual, you are missing the fact that the reason the "lolcat mentality" has taken over Digg is not because the original Digg community likes it - it's because there is an ever-increasing influx of far more immature people from other sites. The "Average Digg IQ" used to be around that of Slashdot, but now it hovers right in-between Slashdot and Youtube.

The people who use digg choose to post stories about lolcats, Ron Paul, Nintendo Wii, Scientology etc. and the people who use digg choose to digg these stories. It's not hard to understand. These are the stories people have chosen to submit and digg, that's why digg is how it is.
