- Dweller99, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35Someone got screwed on Ebay? Surely you jest!
Paypal will help him though... right?
Right?
when will people learn? Ebay is a den of thieves. Ebay just cares that they get there auction fees. Paypal just cares about the transaction fees. Ebay owns Paypal. Where is the incentive to do anything? They got their money.
I wish this guy the best of luck on this, but I hope he enjoys his chinese knock-off because he wont be seeing an iPod OR his money back on this. Mark my words. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Correct link with blogspam removed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pmi04OY2NMI - dunezone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20This guy sounds like Ray Romano.
- attractivetb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Wow...I am the person who shot the video. I shot it to use on my blog, for the amusement of friends and family....I'm shocked that it got frontpaged at Digg...seems like rather boring news for this site.
Anyway...here's some more perspective. I did a great deal of homework on the seller. He has 97% positive feedback and over 29,000 transactions. (He sells TONS of iPods.)
Here's a link to his ebay page: http://stores.ebay.ca/webstorez
Seemed like a safe deal...right? - I actually think it was.
We have been in contact, and it appears that the seller had a mix-up (he also sells the fake Nano-esque MP3/MP4 players). He says that he will be sending me an iPod very soon. With his high feedback score and high transaction volume, I tend to believe him.
Anyway, here's the original post on my blog (for which the video was created)...

(My blog is otherwise a wasteland of videos that were frontpaged on Digg.... Enjoy!) - indication, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Simply file a dispute through ebay and state that you got a completely different product than advertised. Ebay will reimburse you the money.
- MadMac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I assume this guy is in the US because I don't hear an accent or anything, but you never know. Anyway, in his video it shows GBP next to the price of the nano which means the price is in Pounds and the product is from Hong Kong. Why would anyone who lives in the US (assuming) purchase an iPod from Hong Kong? I have the answer to that, a cheap price. Although I cannot make out the exact price on the video, it is definately UNDER 100 Pounds. Any person with an ounce of common sense who saw an "iPod nano" auction on eBay from Hong Kong with a buy it now price of under 100 Pounds should have alarms going off in their head. Obviously this guy didn't and he paid the price. No pitty here.
- reddog0051, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My roommate got a Nano ripoff while vacationing at NYC. He said one of the little shop owners talked him into his store asking if he wanted a buy an iPod. He took him into a secret room in the back of the store where he found things labeled "Gucci" and such. When I finally saw his brand spanking new Nano, it was actually similar to the one in the video except it says "Ninio Compacto" below the controls.
I have to say, the thing SUCKS majorly. And my roommate was so happy to buy a genuine "nano" for so CHEAP at $55. And the thing is only 256mb.
There's a sucker born every minute, caveat emptor. - Dolomite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Ummm... beware of any "Great Deals" coming from Singapore. Did this guy just fall off the Turnip truck??? #1 check the seller's feedback rating, #2 beware of seller's without any feedback coming from overseas. Southeast Asia is well known for producing counterfeit and pirated goods, so don't expect any wonderful deals next time.
- dbalaski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I wouldn't call EBAY a den of thieves..
We've bought and sold stuff on EBAY and rather happy with the results (i've only had one small problem with a buyer.)
Unfortunately, there are some people out there who do rip people off.
But the one thing -- is you need to carefully watch the seller and use common sense.
I feel for the guy, but have to say:
If the price is too good to be true, then it probably isn't a good deal. - diggitdude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Yeah, after he smoked 20 cigs. :-)
- knyghtfyre, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I know he sounded familiar ... maybe it is!
- attractivetb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Chongo:
500+ negatives.....25000+ positives....97.8%....the dude is has a good track record of dealing with and responding to his negative feedback. I am confident that my dispute will be settled in a satisfactory manner.
You really don't get feedback stats that are better than this. - tacom8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dude i would totally buy a cheapo Chinese clone who cares, use it for 2 months and throw it away. As long as it worked reasonably well. You damn well know its not real if its $55 (the 2 gig one is 70 bucks). I mean like a hundred companies have already tried to clone the ipod, you would think one of them could get it right by now?
/feel sorry for the guy in the vid, sounds like he payed a much more - TDTech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In New Zealand the auction site TradeMe has more of them then actual iPods. But here you have to put it in the right place. If its a iPod it goes under iPods if its something else it goes under MP3 Solid State. So the chance of getting a fake iPod here without knowing is very slim. Also the fake ones here are named Apple iPods which shouldn't be allowed. Same goes for the shuffles.
- Dweller99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2for all the "Check the feedback" responses:

look familiar?
Meet the seller
Seller: webstorez( 29852Feedback score is 25,000 to 49,999)
Feedback: 97.8% Positive
Member: since Aug-09-03 in Hong Kong - steveng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's ironic, they were probably assembled in the same factory.
BTW: I am listening to mine as I write this. - Chongo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@attractivetb - Even though the guy has over 20k sales... Look at how many negative feedbacks there are... over 500 over the last 12 months! still not a good ratio!
if you can flip through a users feedback and see one RED spot in each page... stay away - cvelusc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Actually bought one of these 1GB MP4's off FifthUnit.com ( http://contents.fifthunit.com/html/products.5th/sku.490.html ) for $55 with shipping. Not too bad, but on-board mp3 app is a bit sluggish and scroll wheel seems to stick. BUT, the little guy is tough. I accidentally put him through the clothes washer, and despite the protective glass (on top of the display) cracking in a few places, the mp3 player still works!
- blaksaga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Never Ever Ever use ebay. The risk is too high for the small savings that are hoped for. On top of that, ebay charges an atrocious amount to list items and then does little to nothing to stop the fraudulent auctions.
Case in point:
http://www.fakeblades.com
Pretty much every gillette razor blade sold cheap on ebay is a ripoff made in China. - everfalling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wasn't the company that's coming out with those things getting sued? i used to work at Fry's,and my department manager had me take them off the shelves because he said there was legal troubles with the company that was making them. the brand of fake nano's we had was from a company called Inter Ally or something like that.
- tech42er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree; it just says MP3/MP4 player. I think maybe there really was a mix up.
- attractivetb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+163 negatives in about 2000 transactions....(about 95% rating this month)....not bad.
- WoahPuppets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hahaha "Non-iPod device"!
- xcwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You also should watch out for broken refurbished Ipods sold at the Apple Store!
- gti8v, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1seller has 63 negatives this month. shouldnt the nano be in a sealed box too?
- modpancake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MeatPod FTW.
- tech42er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been thinking of buying a cheap chinese MP3/MP4 player for like $50. Does yours play vidoes?
- UncommonSense, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here are some common sense tips from UncommonSense:
If you're buying a pricey item, check feedback, and by check I mean read some of the history of the feedback (don't just trust the number you see). May not hurt to Google search the ebay seller's name as well. It drives me crazy whenever someone bids on a something like a plasma tv from a seller with zero feedback. Also, pay the small amount to insure your item, if possible. Paypal has an insurance option as well.
With nearly 500 eBay transactions (majority of them through buying), I've only had one bad seller (on a $5 item), so I'd definitely say the entire auction experience has been positive. Happy bidding to all. - borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4i see these things on ebay all the time but they never actually say ipod nano. They often say 4 gb flash mp3 playing device or something like that. The best thing is to buy from buyers that have a high user rating thing. then it is pretty much guarenteed.
- wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4It's fine for a limited type of products, and from a limited number of good sellers.
MP3 players aren't one of those products, and don't come from those sellers. - JuyLe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That's why eBay is really bad. I recommand never to buy stuff that are "brand new", I only use eBay for second hand stuff and never had problem with it. This guy is unlucky for sure, I hope he'll get his money back.
- bikee4, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I wonder if the fake scratches as easily...I doubt it...I'd be pissed!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1EVERYBODY PANIC!
As always, check the seller's feedback. This is nothing new. Zzzzzzzz.... - Hastin, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2All I wanna know is:
Why is a guy that wants to buy an iPod using Windows Media Player? Shouldn't he be using, oh, iTunes?! - jcurran, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1He obviously made a typo when entering the store.apple.com URL and somehow didn't realize he was buying off eBay...
- litmus101, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1Ooh i feel your pain, but c'mon he's got a Zelda Wallpaper. What is he like 8. what did he buy it on ebay because he can't afford a real ipod.
- Steelfox, on 10/12/2007, -20/+6Dugg for the Zelda wallpaper.
- diggitdude, on 10/12/2007, -20/+5Why is that blogspam? If they found the vid and did the story, that's their story...sheesh..
