War Graffiti
polarinertia.com — These photos were taken at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar in an attempt to document what is likely one of the largest concentrations of graffiti by U.S. & Coalition military members in recent years. This graffiti appeared in a structure that serves as a holding area for troops transiting to the U.S. military base called Camp As Sayliyah.

- phnx0221, on 11/26/2007, -3/+22I really liked the "visit scenic Baghdad" picture on page 10.
Amidst all of the devastation, uncertainty, and fear, it really painted a picture
of the feeling of spite towards the propaganda that Baghdad is great! Come visit, check out the green zone! etc.
And the see Bahrain - oops you missed it.
Good thought provoking images. Thanks for posting it!- thotpoizn, on 11/26/2007, -2/+4Nice - take some soldier's expression of gallows humor, and start twisting it into whatever ***** political message you want it to mean. That would be way cooler than just appreciating it at face value, right? Hey, I bet you could probably even turn it into a bumper sticker.
- JordanTW90, on 11/26/2007, -2/+4Scenic Baghdad! HA!
- CrazyArcher, on 11/26/2007, -8/+4I'm here for the gangbang...?
- shanthp, on 11/26/2007, -1/+11I agree. RIP Ultimate Warrior.

- Rizaus, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1That was the first thing I noticed in that picture.
- silentdragoon, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1where is trogdor?
- WildPlatypus, on 11/26/2007, -2/+21The guy writing about the wall has the social observation skills of a kola bear on fire, that's not why mil folk write on the damn wall it's cause #$%# wi-fi wasn't picking up 4chan and I got ***** bored.
- elias, on 11/26/2007, -0/+6am digging up for telling the truth ...well about the ***** bored part.....go to any gate shack in the air force and you will see tones of stuff just like this....
- whatsgoodike, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2yea, it's mostly tech-skool style hooraw crap too.
- JohnboiWaltune, on 11/26/2007, -0/+8I have seen this wall, and similar stuff at other air bases we use as staging areas. It's not exactly an insightful observation that most of us don't want to be here and we think Iraq sucks. You can get stuck at the airbase in Qatar or Kuwait (Ali Al Saleem) for up to 5 days or more while waiting to get on a flight. There is nothing to do but count the bugs in your tent and write on the walls. The motivation for this graffiti is boredom and not much else.

- crestfall, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1other than that, it looks like a catalog of the desks in my 7th-grade detention hall.
- MBostonS, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1Who in the hell would draw ALF on that wall? It's alright though, the Ultimate Warrior's going to give him a smack down.
I like that AIRBORNE drawing, it's pretty good. - mwrl, on 11/26/2007, -7/+1354th TRS representing! BULLDOGS!

...That has to be the most disturbing thing I have ever read on Digg... Some sick ***** missed his last psych evaluation.- MerryMortician, on 11/26/2007, -1/+13must not read much on digg huh?
- ez4me2c3d, on 11/26/2007, -3/+6I was there 2005/2006, and it looks like my drawing of a huge ***** didn't make it into the slide show.. =(
- reddikilowatt, on 11/26/2007, -4/+2So how soon will we see a marketing style "graffiti tour" to drum up patriotism and war support? Of course, they'll only show the wholesome ones, much like with nose art in WWII. Granddad was a pervert!
- PidgeonDeath, on 11/26/2007, -3/+4Dugg for Trogdor's Burninating tour 'o5 hahaha
- dappergeek, on 11/26/2007, -1/+11"in an attempt to document what is likely one of the largest concentrations of graffiti by U.S. & Coalition military members in recent years."
*****. Go into any porto-potty / johnny / ***** on any Military base where Army soldiers are stationed with Air Force / Marines / Navy / other Army units and you'll see waaaaaaay more graffiti than what is on that wall.
Some of it is pretty amusing (the first time you see it):
M.A.R.I.N.E.S. = My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment, Sir
Q: Why do sailors have their last names stitched on their back pockets?
A: So the Marines know who their *****!
Q: Does a Marine sign his enlistment contract with a blue or black pen?
A: Neither, it would just get in his mouth when he bites the signature block.- leetninja, on 11/26/2007, -1/+3also: whats the sound ***** makes when it goes through a fan? MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARINE
- sekhui, on 11/26/2007, -1/+2q. how do whales eat submarines?
a. they bite the end off and suck out all the seamen. - rockefeller2, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1I love how marines pull this manly talk ***** against the Navy. Go ahead and sling those M16's and grenades in the trenches if it makes you feel better about yourself. I'll gladly sit my ass in an air conditioned submarine at a control panel. The skills I gain in the Navy will lead to a decent job when I get out. Your man hunting skills are nearly worthless in the civilian world.
- quakerorts, on 11/26/2007, -6/+2Macho war porn.
- leetninja, on 11/26/2007, -6/+1did anyone else notice the phone numbers?
312-975-0870 ... wonder who they are ... wonder if they know ... wonder if the guy that wrote it was killed yesterday by some terrorist ...- JohnboiWaltune, on 11/26/2007, -0/+4That's a DSN (defense switched network -- military) number

- Markpdotcom, on 11/26/2007, -0/+3Do you think its signed by Jesus, or is he asking Jesus to intervene? Some clarification graffiti needed!
- Kamakazi15, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1what? its just some guy named Jesus who is apparently opposed to the war.
- Markpdotcom, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Is there an echo in here?
- clearzen, on 11/26/2007, -2/+1I was expecting something more along the lines of this: http://artcrimes.com/war/war_18.html
- 01l0, on 11/26/2007, -0/+4Thats probably the least interesting "graffiti" I've ever seen.

I see you belong to ONE of these hatefilled groups.
- Btzarro, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1The KKK in iraq? are you sure they were't the blackwater agents?
- drinking12many, on 11/26/2007, -3/+0No kidding crappy graffiti they should have sent a pic of the door to my tent in saudi arabia ... must have been some sluts in there before us... things like "no pole for the hole" , " no free rides", "credit card accepted" and some rather graphic but funny pictures with bananas and a measuring stick. ah the good old days.
- JJ2K1, on 11/26/2007, -1/+2You know, I spent a few hours there in that tent back in 2003 and I enjoyed sitting there reading some of them. My favorite one was the battle between the 82nd Airborne and 10th Mountain about who was better than each other.
- djAnakin, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2My brother is in the 82nd. I wonde rif he added to it when he was there...?
- active1x0, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1For all the KU fans in the audience: http://www.polarinertia.com/june07/wargraffiti08.h ...
Bottom left. Rock Chalk! - scubasteve377, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2No *****, I spent four months in a tent about a hundred yards away from this. This tent was the property of the Mighty 8th Air Expeditionary Squadron. This was one of the overflow tents for when the passenger terminal was too full to hold everyone. Basically, everything that flew in and out of Iraq or Afghanistan, at the time I was there, went through Al Udeid or Incirlik Air Base in Turkey.
The tent we see pictured also happened to serve as a break room for the SWAT guys. In the Air Force, SWAT means ***** Water and Trash (picture #3). These are the dudes who pump the lavatory blue water off of the plane. The recruiter lied to these people more than most, I suspect. "We're #1 in tha #2 business!" At least they take pride in their work. - djAnakin, on 11/26/2007, -0/+3I wonder if my brother [Afghanistan] and best friend [Iraq] have been through there. They both spent time in Qatar for R&R.
- gregnorc, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Second picture, Trogdor reference: http://www.polarinertia.com/june07/wargraffiti02.h ...

- ussoldier, on 11/26/2007, -3/+2#04 "Napalm sticks to kids..." I think that says it all... why there is no ribbon on my minivan anymore, that says support our troops...
- crossers, on 07/15/2008, -0/+0but I can't understand what interesting in this picture?
