- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I was THROWN OUT OF A BOOKSTORE last weekend for putting all of the Bibles in the fiction section. Man, they have no sense of humor...
- AtheistAcolyte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Don't they have a Richard Dawkins quote on some of their cups? Starbuck's has taken a fair amount of heat (pardon the poor joke) for it's cup-sayings, from everyone. They say the purpose of them is to encourage discussion, and it seems to be doing just that. While it's unfortunate that the quote itself doesn't encourage discussion, but engages in stale attacks on evolution, it does produce some discussion, even if it's "That guy is a ***** moron and I wouldn't want him shining my *****-stained shoes."
Besides, anyone who thinks that a quote has any credence lended to it by being printed on a coffee cup is just as likely to be swayed by the mounds of extant evidence for evolution.

(just to see there's a flip side) - DeflatorMouse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Which part of "Please note: The opinions put forth by contributors to 'The Way I See It' do not necessarily reflect the views of Starbucks" don't you people understand?
- Hoobahopp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I noticed that they had an anti-ID quote there too(picture posted further down), so it seems that they have "everything", as AtheistAcolyte says. I think that's fair enough.
- Afreyt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Please don't take this the wrong way, since I agree with you on most points, but do you also boycott bookstores that stock "Scientific Creationism" by Henry Morris?
Because stocking a book like that is worse, and yet I feel that a bookstore is just doing its job. This is just a quote on a cup. People will either be irritated by it, agree with it, or talk about it; no one will be convinced by it. - laceym, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No more Bucks for me.
- maximusGeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2In & Out use to put bible quotes on their cups ....
I stopped eating there until some one told me they stopped. - Mylonite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I've read a lot of friends cups over the years, and actually had the thought that they seemed to do a good job of picking inspirational or thought provoking quotes. I think if I'd been served a cup with this garbage printed on it I'd have gotten a refund. A coffee cup spouting off about the links between evolutionary theory (incorrectly labeled as Darwinism, no surprise) and racism, abortion, and eugenics should never have made it past their marketers. I hope they catch a heap of complaints.
Thank FSM for my own coffeemaker.
