- Kbennett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+218How is a senior English major that bad at writing?
- carbonetc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+155Add the English language to the victim count.
- BESTenemy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+104Sounds like he learned his English on Digg.
- cybermort, on 10/12/2007, -6/+101yeah clearly he needed help.. help with his lame writing skillz
- fpssledge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+97That story sucked.
- widoka, on 10/12/2007, -4/+94if you mean psychiatric help, the news channels are saying that his professor actually did refer him to a counselor after he turned this play in.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+78For an English major, I expected better writing than that.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+76"man-to-man up your ass, bud!"
he's no Shakespeare is he. - nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+70"You murdered my father so you can get into my mom's pant!"
I love amputee porn. - wild, on 10/12/2007, -8/+70I really hope this ***** didn't own a PS2. The media is witch hunting for an excuse, and plays won't mean ***** if he owns a copy of Bully.
- DocXango, on 10/12/2007, -1/+61AOL has published a second one of his plays here:
http://newsbloggers.aol.com/2007/04/17/cho-seung-huis-plays/ - dbhaley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+59little late for that now.
- wierdaaron, on 10/12/2007, -11/+68Yeah, I'm a huge fan of writeing too...
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -2/+55That chuckle I just made is sending me to hell.
- jsbarone, on 10/12/2007, -13/+58From Doc's linked AOL Article.
"When we read Cho's plays, it was like something out of a nightmare. The plays had really twisted, macabre violence that used weapons I wouldn't have even thought of. Before Cho got to class that day, we students were talking to each other with serious worry about whether he could be a school shooter. I was even thinking of scenarios of what I would do in case he did come in with a gun, I was that freaked out about him. When the students gave reviews of his play in class, we were very careful with our words in case he decided to snap. Even the professor didn't pressure him to give closing comments.
After hearing about the mass shootings, I sent one of my friends a Facebook message asking him if he knew anything about Seung Cho and if he could have been involved. He replied: "dude that's EXACTLY what I was thinking! No, I haven't heard anything, but seriously, that was the first thing I thought when I heard he was Asian."
This "Ian" guy can't me any more of a media whore than this---"Before Cho got to class that day, we students were talking to each other with serious worry about whether he could be a school shooter." *Rriiighhtt...* Wondering if he's going to be a school shooter. That's like me wondering if my coworker is going to get in a car accident that day. If everyone judged people from their literary work (crappy as it may be) then everyone would be held in suspicion of commiting some kind of behavior. It's my opinion that the douche who wrote this note was fabricating a story to link him to this guy that he never knew.
Out of the reported 11,000 students driving onto the campus that morning, Ian just happens to think "Hmm...I wonder if it was Seung who did the killing". Those are some pretty slim odds.
Go ahead and lambast/thumbs down me for grilling this guy, but it pisses me off when people try and get their 15 minutes of fame from a ***** up tragedy like this. It's obvious to me that this chucklehead had absolutely nothing to do with anyone involved in this dilemma except, perhaps, a passing "Hey, I've seen that dude before." Someone needs to punch him in the balls. - FatalTragedy316, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45Then again, the guy's bat-***** crazy...
- richardmcbeef, on 10/12/2007, -4/+46thats my life youre talking ***** on!
- quacker912, on 10/12/2007, -0/+39"Mr. Brownstone" was even worse then the McBeef one. It includes kids talking about killing their teacher.
- antifolkhero, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42It was wildly weird. Its basically some incredibly angry kid screaming his head off at his step-dad. There are some serious psychological issues that need to be dealt with there.
- holzp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40Dick McBeef? Yeah I would say there are at least some psychosexual issues here...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40At first I read it and thought "God, is this what you guys are passing off as English at Va Tech?"... but then I quickly remembered we're not exactly dealing with a rational person.
- Cozmcphish, on 10/12/2007, -12/+48kbennett:
"How is a senior English major that bad at writing?"
@kbennett
That's cause he was actually an Ingrish major. So rownry :( - washingtonydc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33I just want to say that we should be cautious of using fiction alone to pass judgments on the actual author. While sometimes it can offer an insight into a person, often times it just is what it is--fiction.
In this case here, however, we have disturbing fiction coupled with an obviously troubled man. His creative work alone doesn't mean anything, but as it stands now, in totality of everything else, it does offer a glimpse into what was going through his head. - VegasKill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Wow. Talk about ridiculous writing,
"I wonder why it's so sunny out! Today is one fruity day!" - discofuck, on 10/12/2007, -6/+35I don't know what's worse, this play or when he killed 32 people.
Oh, wait. I guess mass murder. - nicepants, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Richard McBeef is my porn star name....
- tvh2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28Richardmcbeef.com is gone too -- you people are awful.
- mst3kcrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Yeah, his two posted plays had a strange fascination with anal rape.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26You can tell it was written by him due to the incorrect conjugation of verbs and his repeated references to how fat his step-dad is.
- lechatron, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27I really shouldn't have laughed at that.
- markormesher, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26see what annoys me is that my hobby is screenwriting. I have a group meeting in 30 mins, and my screenplay is about a murdering psychopath. I had to talk to my teacher about how I wasn't a psychotic, I just wrote an interesting story. Now everytime someone writes a ***** up play, people are going to accuse them of being a psychopath.
And I live in Northern Virginia, where at least 4 of my friends knew someone who was shot...
I hate people that ruin life for the rest of us. - wild, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24"*Rriiighhtt...* Wondering if he's going to be a school shooter."
Man, when I was in college, there was a guy on my floor that had a map drawn up of the dorm. And he had nicknames for every one on it. (He was black squirrel, my roommate was Rhino, I was Bear). He was a bizarre dude and really into guns. We used to always joke around and say he was going to kill us all one day.
Had an incident occurred when I was in school, it would have put that guy directly in my mind. Especially if I heard a characteristic that could describe him. I imagine this is a scenario that exists all over the country. Its tragic luck the dude was right. - dirtyfratboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070417/ap_on_re_us/virginia_tech_shooting
"Professor Carolyn Rude, chairwoman of the university's English department, said she did not know Cho. But she said she spoke with Lucinda Roy, the department's director of creative writing, who had Cho in one of her classes and described him as "troubled."
She said Cho was referred to the counseling service, but she said she did not know when, or what the outcome was. Rude refused to release any of his writings or his grades, citing privacy laws."
I guess those privacy laws were screwed? - JonestownTea, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Plot Summary:
Sure, kid (John) curses a lot at step-dad (Richard, ironically, /sarcasm Dick).
John makes his step-dad angry.
Step-dad nearly strikes at John.
Mom walks in and gets pissed.
Dick gets angrier.
Later in a car Dick kills John for making him angry again.
Symbols:
Granola Bars
The name Dick
Point:
Absolutely none - redheadguy719, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21and I quote: "You committed a conspiracy! Just like what the government has done to John Lennon and Marilyn Monroe"
not to mention: "You want me to stick this remote control up your ass?" - drttol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Did anyone else notice in Mr Brownstone that he had the lyrics:
"The show usually starts around seven
We go on stage around nine"
The shooting in the dorm was around seven, and the massacre started around nine..
http://news.aol.com/virginia-tech-shootings/cho-seung-hui/_a/mr-brownstone-page-7/20070417142709990001 - edpowers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Someone registered Richardmcbeef@gmail.com already.. that was fast..
- THX1212, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Apparently, his creative writing teacher did refer to him psychiatric treatment. It is unclear if he ever took up the offer or if it did him any good. It is pretty darn difficult to legally force someone who is unwilling to get help. It sounds to me, from what I've been reading about this guy staring at the wall for long periods of time, that this guy may have been developing schizophrenia or something.
- geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+26And clearly the kid never got the help he needed. It's either because no one cared, or no one knew what to do. My guess is that it's both. Well, people care now, but obviously it's too late. People will again soon stop caring once they're satisfied with the scapegoats they've chosen and the laws they've re-written. But history shall repeat itself and this will happen again. It always does.
- andrewsalois, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Can I get CliffsNotes from someone 'cause I don't have 30 minutes to waste on ***** writing?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Well....should I feel bad for laughing numerous times at that play "What are you a Catholic priest? I will not be molested by an aging, overweight, balding, pedophilic stepdad named Dick. Get your hands off me you sicko! Damn you, you Catholic Priest. Just stop it, Michael Jackson. Let me guess, you have a pet named Dick in Neverland Ranch and want me to go with you to pet him, right?"
The media is acting like this is the worst play, smoking gun, red flag, but it's just seems too poorly written to be that scary. - TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I would expect better writing from anyone
- tpaine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18@dmont123
did you really read the article? the first line says:
...was referred last year to counseling after professors became concerned about the violent nature of his writings.... - FatalTragedy316, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15@jsbarone:
Did you even read the note? Not only was Ian in Cho's class but he had to peer review his plays, if I were Ian that would definitely raise the odds of it being Cho... - jrchin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18You funny bastard.
- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15yes, some of us actually read the plays. since this is what the thread is about.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18I could understand if it was weird for a reason, but wow, yeah it sucked.
- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14If we were just judging him based on some poorly written drama, that would be one thing. However, he just killed 31 people and himself, so we're guessing there might be a connection.
- yaveznodo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15You just know that these few plays are going to become underground cult favourites in the vein of the 'Manson Tapes', or the paintings of John Wayne Gacy. Sad to think that in twenty years from now the name of 'Cho' and the title 'Richard McBeef' will probably be remembered more than any of those who lost their lives in this terrible incident.
- flashboy131, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18do any of these stories reflect his real living situation at all?
