If Alan traveled all thirty flights as an "Upper Class Flexible" traveler on Virgin, from NY to London, his ticket would run approx $9,000. Times that by 30 flights and he's at $270K. The space flight costs $200K. - justinsullivan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You have no concept of the cost of transatlantic flights on virgin. If you fly the top tier class that they offer, tickets can cost upwards of 10k per round trip.
- skrshawk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The easy way to rack up tons of frequent flyer miles is by credit cards that hand them out like candy. If you've got a business and put your expenses on it those kind of miles aren't out of reach.

If that works, they're planning an orbital vehicle. In 50 years, I wouldn't be surprised to see vacation plans to the moon.

I have to assume that not all of his flights were that expensive but...
USD 5512.13 * 30 = 165 363.9
23880 miles * 30 = 716 400
so even though that's better than one mile per dollar (and it's certainly possible to find more expensive flights but they don't seem to give much more points), it's still not 2 million, so we must assume that he was also making use of other partners to collect most of these points....

Of course the 2 million could be a made up number or the 30 could be only the last 6 years but the guy's been flying virgin for much longer....
