- jstohler, on 10/10/2007, -5/+223It's amazing what happens when you give some people a badge and a little power.
- blorc, on 10/10/2007, -6/+181That was awesome. I love his reaction to the off-duty hard-ass. She tries to feed him some *****, and when he shoves it back in her face she starts mumbling, "Uh uh uh well technically..."
"***** you, *****."
Hahahaha - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+140Video link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DytIyFgtvKI
- LostOnion, on 10/10/2007, -1/+131The only part of the story that riles me is the retired cop saying he can't film because of terrorism. Pretty soon we won't be able to spit because of terrorism if we leave it up to the cops. They are going to use that as excuse for everything that they do from now on.
- SambekZX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+110The cop was breaking the law. Getting lunch doesn't qualify as an "emergency operation."
Laws of New York, Title 7, Article 23, Section 1104.
ยง 1104. Authorized emergency vehicles. (a) The driver of an authorized
emergency vehicle, when involved in an emergency operation, may exercise
the privileges set forth in this section, but subject to the conditions
herein stated.
(b) The driver of an authorized emergency vehicle may:
1. Stop, stand or park irrespective of the provisions of this title;
2. Proceed past a steady red signal, a flashing red signal or a stop
sign, but only after slowing down as may be necessary for safe
operation;
3. Exceed the maximum speed limits so long as he does not endanger
life or property;
4. Disregard regulations governing directions of movement or turning
in specified directions.
(c) Except for an authorized emergency vehicle operated as a police
vehicle or bicycle, the exemptions herein granted to an authorized
emergency vehicle shall apply only when audible signals are sounded from
any said vehicle while in motion by bell, horn, siren, electronic device
or exhaust whistle as may be reasonably necessary, and when the vehicle
is equipped with at least one lighted lamp so that from any direction,
under normal atmospheric conditions from a distance of five hundred feet
from such vehicle, at least one red light will be displayed and visible.
(d) An authorized emergency vehicle operated as a police, sheriff or
deputy sheriff vehicle may exceed the maximum speed limits for the
purpose of calibrating such vehicles' speedometer. Notwithstanding any
other law, rule or regulation to the contrary, a police, sheriff or
deputy sheriff bicycle operated as an authorized emergency vehicle shall
not be prohibited from using any sidewalk, highway, street or roadway
during an emergency operation.
(e) The foregoing provisions shall not relieve the driver of an
authorized emergency vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for
the safety of all persons, nor shall such provisions protect the driver
from the consequences of his reckless disregard for the safety of
others.
(f) Notwithstanding any other law, rule or regulation to the contrary,
an ambulance operated in the course of an emergency shall not be
prohibited from using any highway, street or roadway; provided, however,
that an authority having jurisdiction over any such highway, street or
roadway may specifically prohibit travel thereon by ambulances if such
authority shall deem such travel to be extremely hazardous and would
endanger patients being transported thereby. - Seraph787, on 10/10/2007, -4/+112Don't get my started on NYC police. A lot of them are nice. But more are asses. One of my friends was walking east upper mid-town and she saw this white guy just got the ***** kicked out of him by some racist black kids. So she calls the police and they come. This guy is bleeding from the head and other places and the police kinda just shrugs and does nothing. He just waits for the ambulance. He didn't even care that some guy just got the crap kicked out of him. Maybe its desensitization or something. But the police force in NYC definitely has a lot of bad apples.
- Salisme, on 10/10/2007, -3/+110The thing I find the most disturbing is the physical condition of that officer. As a NY taxpayer, I'm paying for that person to protect my rights, and frankly I can't see her running more than ten feet without falling over. Aren't there physical standards for law enforcement anymore?
- digitul, on 10/10/2007, -1/+84i see them break the law every morning when i'm driving down the highway to work going 65 and get passed by a cop going 90. and no they aren't all going on runs. they do it because they can get away with it.
- jankind, on 10/10/2007, -1/+68The cops here in Philly do ***** like that all the time.
I see them blowing stop signs and red lights regularly, parking wherever the hell they feel like it, not using turn signals...
And that whole "protect and serve" thing?
Well about a week ago, my wife and I were out and the battery in the car died.
I popped the hood and started jogging over to the cop that was parked not too far away. I figured he would give me a jump.
Well, when he saw me jogging toward him, and away from a car with the hood up, he started his cruiser and drove off.
Nice. - SnuKs, on 10/10/2007, -2/+67It's sad when you have to resort to pulling the terrorism card.
- Kinjiru, on 10/10/2007, -3/+65Looks like that fat bitch could have definitely SKIPPED LUNCH.. holy crap what ever happened to an officer being in SHAPE.. other than round that is.
- Akaji, on 10/10/2007, -11/+71I appreciate what he's doing, but geeze... his voice is annoying.
- bemenaker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+54A reminder to our law enforcement officers. You are a public servant, you work for us. We do have a right to video tape you in public performing your job. In fact, the public scrutinizing your actions is a requirement in a free society. Why do you think the statute of Civilian Arrest exist? It is so the public can police the Police.
Get over yourselves, you are not our overlords. I will show you the respect you show me. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+58Old people in the US really buy that 'terrorism' crap don't they? Man that old lady who comes up to defend the filming of the cop needs to have the baseball bat removed from her *****, and a brain inserted into her head.
I like the video guys response, "Ya, thats what they want us to believe, its a scare tactic used by the police." I would add, "and the government in the US to keep the population scared/under control." Apparently this tactic is working on old white women. - jayssite, on 10/10/2007, -4/+49Well, the woman was actually the first to call him "*****"
- GettinReal, on 10/10/2007, -3/+47Welcome to Police State 2007 where some fat ass minority government employee with a sub 100 IQ is in charge of protecting us...Its been a long slide but this country has went to total *****.
- kooft, on 10/10/2007, -0/+43If terrorists get a hold of that video and determine that NYPD doesn't wear seat belts, they'll plot a massive 'stop short' campaign to disable all the squad cars in the city.
- TheSabre, on 10/10/2007, -1/+37What? Police are required to be first responders. They aren't paramedics, and in the situation that Seraph described, they probably couldn't do much to help other than call more-qualified emergency personnel - but they ARE qualified to give some types of first aid, such as CPR.
- ventralnet, on 10/10/2007, -1/+36This was on the today show this morning...
- Scynet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+35I'm pretty sure every damn cop is taught how to give basic first-aid.
- JCSaint, on 10/10/2007, -0/+33Well, let's see, NYC has nearly 40,000 officers. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Police_Department) If even only 10% are kinda dicks that gives you 4,000 dick cops in New York. They should be held to a higher standard since we give them the authority to run around with a gun and shoot people if they deem it necessary, but you can't stop them all from being dicks.
- jdtx1980, on 10/10/2007, -0/+32So you think it's ok for our tax-funded public servants to be power-abusing hypocrites?
- optophobia, on 10/10/2007, -3/+32Funny, cos last night I took a photo of a cop driving the wrong way down a one way street.
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b10/dwardmac/cop.jpg - bemenaker, on 10/10/2007, -3/+32Unfortunately, Police, like politicians, are never the right people for the job. Those who seek it are not the ones who should have it. I am not saying all cops are bad, in fact most are not. I have great respect for cops and their willingness to be in harm's way. But abuse of power should never be tolerated.
- 1337d0Od, on 10/10/2007, -29/+57The guy says "*****!***** you!", just kind of sounds like something a 11 year old would say when told he can't go to the movies or something. I dont think the cops should be breaking the law like this but that guy really needs to learn how to handle himself if he wants to retain any credibility.
- dannyapplesauce, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29All those ***** you grew up with in highschool, well now they have badges and they think own the world. You can't group all cops under this, but you can sure group ALOT of them. "Power" goes to people's heads, and quickly.
- gopher043, on 10/10/2007, -0/+27An emergency is one thing. Getting a sandwich is another. Which by the way the later is not an emergency.
- AriaGloris, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27physical standards? how the ***** is fatty gona even catch her doughnut rolling away from her?
- BeReasonable, on 10/10/2007, -0/+25on the other hand, I wouldn't want the firemen to have to let a house burn down because someone parked their cruiser in front of the only fire hydrant on a block...
- Protonz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27Fine by me. His 'inappropriate behavior' is not nearly as bad as their 'breaking of the laws they enforce', and the ***** 'terrorism' line is starting to piss a lot of people off.
- FiP0, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25"because of terrorism" ? that doesn't even mean anything. It's scary that she thinks she can just say that, without further explanation.
- DrHockey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23Good find. What drives me nuts about NYC cops is that they can't even wait at a damned stop light. If it's red, they turn on their lights & siren, go through, then turn them off once they're through the intersection. Yes, it's minor but an abuse. Some day one of them is going to go against the light in a non-emergency situation and kill someone. Then we're gonna have a *****-storm.
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24It's a sad fact of life that most of the time you find some sort of "street debate" video, there's always at least one person who you agree with but wish they weren't either annoying or a jerk. (Regardless of the side of the argument you're on.)
Either that, or it's just me and I need help being less misanthropic. - bemenaker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21That's a BS excuse with no legal backing.
- jdenzer, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22Again, the retired cop called him a ***** first, most of us would have shouted out some obscenity to, out of frustration. Look at the video again
- member57, on 10/10/2007, -4/+24Cops are not obligated to actively protect every citizen from crime. They rarely show up during the commission of a crime, except of course speeding. Most police charters state that they are not guaranteed to protect from crime, but to investigate and apprehend AFTER a crime has been committed. If you don't believe me, try to get the police to protect you from a real death threat.
- maybeinoregon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21I am sick and tired of ***** throwing out the word terrorism - obviously there was no literacy test for this NYPD officer.
- dogstar0125, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Yeah, no kidding. How is she supposed to "serve and protect" when she can barely hoist her fat ass out of her car? You can forget about this officer rescuing any kitties unless they're stuck on the counter at McDonald's.
- exomni, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23fat bitch should be fired.
- b04155, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Doesn't matter where she parked, she wouldn't be running to anything.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19BizarroDavid said "Some people are *****" not "all cops are *****." There's a big difference.
- codered1322, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17A full-time traffic cop does not have any emergency to attend to ever. They write tickets.
- inmatarian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17That's why she's a "Meter Maid." I agree that it's disturbing that she let her physical condition go so badly, so in the case of an emergency, she would be utterly useless. For the menial task of watching you run up the block with a quarter in hand, and then beginning the writing of your ticket just as before you get there, she fits the bill perfectly.
- kingmoffa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17i loved that bit. Im not sure what the laws are in the US , but I firmly believe you should be able to film almost anything that happens in public. Esp the police - what have they to hide?
- jdenzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16"...who calls someone a *****" , Someone who has been called a *****. Yeah watch the video again, the retired cop called the guy an *****, that's why he called her a *****. Well justified.
- MWeather, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19Cops go out purposely looking for lawbreakers. Does that make them nobs too?
- AbsurdParadox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Too bad we can't stop paying for their services.
- brundlefly76, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15lol the threshold at which someone whips out the 'C' word in Brooklyn is so low.
- danielsan1701, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Yeah, the cops always let me slide when it's just a little parking violation. I'm glad the cops choose their battles.
