Veterans Day Civil War Reenactment Photo Essay
laist.com — Amazing photos from the Veterans Day Reenactment of the Battle of Franklin and Lincoln's Gettyburg Address at Tierra Rejada Ranch near LA, 11/11/07. It looks so real, it's hard to believe that it took place 143 years ago yesterday.

- lucidguru, on 11/13/2007, -1/+2They are definitely too fat and too clean to be civil war soldiers.
- blackdragoness, on 11/14/2007, -2/+1I do that in Arizona. We have an event this weekend actually. www.wemakehistory.com
you'll see me on the site... in a dress I sewed myself xP- ngnboone, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3You reenact all of battles that took place in Arizona?
- shm0edawg, on 11/13/2007, -1/+2The resemblance to Lincoln is uncanny!
- Calypsoaf, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1I find these reenactments very cool and fun to watch. I hope that when I retire and get more time on my hands people will still be doing these types of things, so that I can be part of the crew as well.
- alkajazz, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1So who won this year?
- ButterBuddha, on 11/14/2007, -3/+1Can't believe the South fought so hard to be a British colony again...
- orelses, on 11/14/2007, -2/+1Let us not forget that there are more injured in Iraq now than in the civil war, the lives have been saved, but the question is how do we support so many injured veterans.
- Bolko, on 11/14/2007, -2/+1Civil War reenactors are all dorks. Everyone knows that the cool kids are into War of Jenkin's Ear reenacting.
- amoro99, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2When will the "Fall of Falluja" reenactments take place?
- SLuM, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2I kind of think stuff like this is cool and reminds us of how much we sacrificed for our liberty which is being taken away...
- SpudgeBoy, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1During the Civil War our civil liberties were taken away. It was the Revolutionary war where we fought for them. Since that time our liberties have been slowly eroded to what we have today.
- source1984, on 11/13/2007, -0/+0The Abe Lincoln LOOKS LIKE LINCOLN!
Somebody needs to watercolor the civil war photos like these world war 1 photos were water colored... err, i think. - hiikeeba, on 11/14/2007, -2/+1I think the Confederate reenactors should be penalized somehow for bringing up painful memories of slavery.
- bljfour, on 11/14/2007, -0/+0It was a pretty good reenactment. I participated as a Confederate artilleryman.
- sarahlarowe, on 11/15/2007, -0/+0I'm surprised at how historically accurate these actually look (with the exception of the cleanliness and the portliness). Civil War reenactors are infamous among those who reenact for being, shall we say, less than accurate. I've attended Civil War reenactments where the soldiers are wearing Nikes and sunglasses *while lined up for inspection*. This goes for the womenfolk as well: I've seen many a "Southern Belle" wearing a dress in a color invented in 1976, or with something like Day-Glo feathers attached.
But I suppose it might just be more offensive if they were actually *truly* accurate, with the whole Confederacy deal.
...And what's with having reenactments in places like California? Seems more than a little anachronistic to me. - maus56, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1Too many fat Confederates.
