- Falldog, on 10/12/2007, -12/+61I LOVE when headlines yell at me.
- coolian, on 10/12/2007, -11/+48You know who needs to get euthanized? People like you - those who claim to have a job, yet idle their lives away at Digg all day.
Oh wait... - oceanmoon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37You know, I wish people would go to homeless shelters and volunteer and realize -- it's not laziness. It's physical illness, mental illness (PTSD from Vietnam, for instance), alcoholism/drug addiction, and so much more.
To say it's laziness is a lazy comment. It's easy to criticize from behind a computer screen... - pastaq, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35Viddy well little brother.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33@briantech
Do you realize how close over half of the middle class working population is to being homeless? I'm willing to be most of the middle class working population would be out on the street after 2 months if they lost their job. - Subtonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25I don't think many homeless people have a college education and prior sales experience.
- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26"Considering how I'm harrassed by the homeless begging for money, some of which grab me when I walk by, I'm surprised the number isn't higher. I've come pretty close a couple of times to throwing a punch."
Maybe you missed the word, "Unprovoked". These aren't homeless people harassing people on the street, or grabbing people, these are people getting assaulted for no reason, trouble is literally finding them, not the other way around. - milomilomilo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20People seem to think of the homeless as some other species all together.
I have been homeless before, all it takes is losing a job.
Not everyone homeless man is a junky, or lazy bastard. Most just hit a rough patch and got stuck. It can be very tough to get a job when homeless, you don't exactly have a residence or somewhere to rest. Take it from someone who had to live in shelters, there is only so much room in a shelter, and a lot of people, so most people are allowed to stay 24 nights every 6 months.
Since I've been on my feet, I've helped a few people just have a place to stay while the got a job and first few checks.
Sometimes people need help to get on their feet.
Beating a human being for amusement is disgusting and any punk who does this deserves the same to happen to him and his own. - lieutenantmudd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Do you know how many rapes occur of homeless women each year? I worked in a homeless shelter once, some woman had been raped something like thirty times over the years. Why do you think homeless shelters usually only let women stay the night?
This situation is deplorable, but don't think violence against the homeless is by any means a new thing. - nipuL, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Yeah go out and get a job!! You know sometimes it's not that easy. I say this guy the other day wearing his underpants on the outside of his pants...
I'm guessing his resume isn't up to scratch. I'm predicting problems during the interview process.
I'm betting even McDonalds has an "underpants go on the inside" policy. - azAZ09, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22"It’s funny how the colours of the real world only seem really real when you viddy them on the screen."
"There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs..."
Clockwork Orange. Dugg up for prescient literary reference. - danarama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16a lot of homeless people rarley had a chance to get anything out of life. nevermind the people in mass layoff situations that ruin towns and force families onto the street. if you're born poor you stay poor, in general, sounds pessimistic but to a large degree it's true. now stack a poor lot in life with a wide variety of additional things like no education, prone to addictions and abuse, no family. ok NOW go get a job mr america...not to mention the homeless people who ACTUALLY HAVE A JOB. I bet you there's more than a few Walmart employees who could be classified as homeless.
- spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13"it's not too hard to find a job."
Do me a favour; next time you apply for a job give no postal address, no phone number, don't shower for a few weeks, eat poorly, and sleep rough before you go to the interview. Carry everything important you own with you into the interview, wear some old clothes and don't wash them.
If after that you still think it's 'not too hard' for homeless people to find a steady job, I'll respect your opinion.
For now I'll just think you're an idiot. - np374, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Sick ***** with no morals.
- insomniac8400, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19142? That is such a tiny number. I also love how it's ok to let them starve to death on the street, but if you beat them to death all of a sudden it's wrong.
- Recuso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Except for the fact that 20% of the homeless actually have a job. Additionally not all of them are substance abusers or mentally ill.

- oriolesfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I'm just speechless after reading some of those descriptions of attacks. Anyone who does something like that deserves to be behind bars for a LONG time.
- robdazomba, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10> It's their own fault.
Let me guess. You're a well-off middle-class Christian, right? And you struggled your whole life to become who you are and have all you have with no help from anyone, right?
Jesus would be so proud. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11lol... only intense & disturbing articles yell at people
- wonkavsn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I this an issue that disturbs me deeply.
/slight tangent
I also think that ***** "Bum Fights" producer should be marooned on an island filled with brain eating baboons. - bixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I remember when I was a in middle school - the social dilemma of fitting in, having the right clothes, being cool, and having money. I assume it wouldn't be very hard to find a bunch of teenagers that think homeless people should probably die, because they are 'losers' and 'they have no jobs'. It wasn't until I struggled in the big city, living on my 1st job at minimum wage paying high rent that was 80% of my monthly pay, that I realized that there existed a very fine line of paycheck-to-paycheck living and complete homelessness.
Our school systems are no longer in the service of educating anybody - but ensuring that they pass the 'minimum'. This type of ultra-ignorant style violence will only increase. - Character0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What the hell happened with just riding your bike... there is no need to have to beat someone with it as well. I hope these sick individuals get whats coming to them.
- spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"At least in wealthy nations, the homeless aren't in danger of being killed by bands of machete-wielding tribes or a rare tropical disease."
No, only receive random unprovoked beatings. - borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@alien
yeah but that would be provoked...this is just random beatings which many people find amusing.
EDIT: sigh...^ - SelfAbortion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@briantech
"If we simply had a policy of euthanization for chronically homeless people, I bet people would be more motivated to get off their lazy arses and get a job like the rest of us."
You're a ***** terrible person. - SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Absolutely, the homeless are still far more likely statistically to be dying of malnutrition and lack of health care. The beatings are statistically insignificant in comparison. But they make a better article because it adds in the element of human cruelty and allows the reader to pass harsh judgement on the sick ***** that do this.
- Vishap, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8You realize there are homeless people who don't do that right? You just never see them because... they're not doing that.
Oh, and lets not care if random kids get the crap beat out of them because hey, I've seen kids start fights! - treed, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11There was nothing I hated more than to see a filthy old drunkie, a-howling away at the filthy songs of his fathers and going blurp blurp in between as if it were a filthy old orchestra in his stinking rotten guts. I could never stand to see anyone like that, especially when they were old like this one was.
- danarama, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9America should learn from some of the social democracies in the world, way less homelessness and related problems
- CannedMango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@cptamerica
"It's their own fault"
What is their own fault here exactly? Getting beaten to death by a group of psychotic teenagers? Maybe if it happens to someone you care about you won't be so glib. - Ahnteis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yeah, it's like MURDER is a problem or something. What WERE those article writers thinking?!
- Jubilation43, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"I totally agree wtih beating the homeless.. Honestly, it's not only a great sport but it's helpful to get their asses in gear and off the god damn street! Especially street kids in toronto. I have to deal with these kids everyday begging for change and being rude, and I am glad there is some nutbag that is willing to beat the ***** out of people like that because it's actually quite wonderful living peacfully without the god damn homeless"
This comment is a perfect example of ignorance and hatred towards people who are just like the rest of us. Ever have a job in the service industry? I'm a waitress and I have to deal with rude people every day too. BIG DEAL. I don't secretly wish some "nutbag" would go after them with cement blocks and aluminum baseball bats. My father happens to a perfect example of one of the "harmless homeless". He's had several jobs over the years doing maintenance, gardening, etc., living in the bay area and has never had enough income for an apartment or room there. He's a very intelligent, kind man, and the fact that his homeless status would make him more susceptible to random acts of violence makes me sick. - renegadeafk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10When is beating them to death not wrong?
- MacintoshSauce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This just makes my stomach turn. What in the hell did these homeless people do to those stupid bastards?
- pirotess, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Wealthy nations should strive for a low homeless population.
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6All it's missing is extraneous! Punctuation!!!
- Qwiggalo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Did you rub Asians on them first?
- dimebags, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4jesus, i can't believe how many rich bitches there are in this country
- swoopdog, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8the comments in this story sicken me.
as if the homeless weren't people or something!
***** your middle class privileged 'lifestyles of the not so rich and famous' as long as you can subjugate someone I guess you can make yourself feel better about being nothing in life. The real "rich" people are the people who dont have to mash others under their heel to feel like they have some self-worth. Get over yourselves its not as easy as "they are all lazy and need to get jobs" how about how many have come from abused homes as children? How about how many come from homophobic homes where they are forced out by conservative uncaring families? How about how many are veterans of unpopular unsupported wars like Vietnam. How many of these homeless PEOPLE are mentally ill? How many are immigrants to this country such as ourselves? And you lazy apathetic mostly white teenagers choose not to help but rather hurt in your quest to feel like your life means something.
Keep living in your imaginary worlds where you see classes instead of people. Some of us fight gentrification and the encroaching class war that pits people against each other in this modern day capitalist system.
I am sick to death of these kind of headlines and people saying "people deserved to get ***** with" If I ever see someone act in a way thats disrespectful of anyone prepare to be screwed with yourself. Beware the wrath of your victim! I think its about time to arm the homeless because of people like this! - Ajajadude, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7So, do you think it's ok to beat sales people to death for trying extra hard to push a new HD tv on you?
- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5One time I handed out blankets to homeless people.....

Drop what you're doing. There are CAPS in the headline. - InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I only do what the city pays me to do.
- wonkavsn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"...who is otherwise completely healthy (he can walk and run) anywhere near as valuable to society as a stay at home or working parent.."
There is immense mental illness amongst the homeless. - ReverendRodger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think it's funny how we make people not human anymore in order to not feel sorry for the injustices that are done to them.
Yeah, if you're homeless, you ***** up (or, as is often the case, you're mentally ***** up). But by saying "He doesn't work, he's useless to us! " you're letting corporations dictate what makes you human and important. That wouldn't be that big of an issue if almost each one of you that would scream "He doesn't work, lazy bum!" are also the first to yell about evil corporations (don't get me wrong, they are) and how everything is wrong in the world. -
