- raggydoll, on 01/04/2009, -9/+433I wonder which one is the evil one?
- DiamondMonster, on 01/04/2009, -2/+280Pshh. Call me when we see twins born on the same day in different years. Then I'll be impressed.
- AboveandBeyond, on 01/04/2009, -6/+198yawn
- opticwind, on 01/04/2009, -0/+155The one born with a goatee.
- rolf, on 01/04/2009, -3/+137How about twins that were born different millenia? 1999/2000. (Technically, 2000/2001, but I doubt most people recognize that).
- KimNovak, on 01/04/2009, -1/+90Well twins are born at a few minutes difference so to be born in different years they have very little time and the chances are very low. While the 29th Feb babies have 24 hours to be born.. so I'd say 24hours>>>>few minutes*4.
- Octanum, on 01/04/2009, -9/+98Hmmm, I don't really care :/
- alphonse221, on 01/04/2009, -6/+68who cares?
- ostkman, on 01/04/2009, -1/+57When my mother was pregnant with me, they did an ultrasound and found she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later, they discovered, that I had resorbed the other fetus. Do I regret this? No, I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby.
- protodon, on 01/04/2009, -1/+55I bet their mom is ecstatic because not only does she get to talk everyone's ear off about the new twins, she can tell them about their birthdays for the rest of her goddamn life!
- blastcube, on 01/04/2009, -5/+55Buried for the overly clever title
- starphish, on 01/04/2009, -1/+47@G-RaZoR. I actually not sure you calculated your answer. It seems obvious to me that Feb 29 babies would be overwhelmingly more common.
Sure, you only have it every 4 years, but you count ALL babies born on Feb 29 as leap-year babies. For the New Years Eve/New Years Day phenomenon, you have to have twins being born, which is far more rare than single births, and you also have to start your birth just before midnight, have one baby, then have another after midnight.
Many people personally know someone who was a leap year baby. You'd be hard pressed to personally know twins who were born just before and just after midnight on new years eve/day.
I have no data on this. Just common sense. - feliks2, on 01/04/2009, -1/+42My great-grandmother was born on the 29th, so shes pretty much like 24 now.
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -22/+58Recognize what? That christians can't count?
- G-RaZoR, on 01/04/2009, -40/+73New Year Eve/New Year Babies happen every year, Feb 29 babies happen every 4th year.
Not sure how LoneWolf01 calculated his answer. - thedivinelyevil, on 01/04/2009, -0/+29Adblock.
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -5/+32the 2000-2001 millenia theory is based off the Gregorian calender, which was infact brought in by Pope Gregory XIII
- 0ceanic, on 01/04/2009, -0/+26id be more interested if one was born first, and then the other was born first in daylight savings time.
or if one was born first, and then the other was born first in daylight savings time exactly an hour later. but in a timezone to the east, thereby making them both born at exactly the same second!
now that would be a mind *****. and their momma would be loose. - Elliuotatar, on 01/04/2009, -0/+26Wow, four days old and he's already got a digg account.
They grow up so fast! - awhiteflame, on 01/04/2009, -4/+29Calendar
- Warcrack, on 01/04/2009, -2/+25That's really ***** up.
- firestorm, on 01/04/2009, -0/+22@starphish: great answer!
What WOULD be more rare than twins over New Years is one twin born on Feb 28 (or Mar 1) and one twin born on February 29th.
(About twice as rare as twins over New Years.) - DrunkenPirate34, on 01/04/2009, -2/+24But they aren't twins so its just boring.
- Ridikul, on 01/04/2009, -0/+20I think you just missed the whole point of the article.
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -2/+22"Kinda" doesn't mean it is.
- BradOFarrell, on 01/04/2009, -4/+22Is anyone else disturbed by the ad (or, one of the ads in rotation) on that page?

It's on Digg too. Read it. It's implying (regardless as to whether or not this is their actual policy) that you can get yourself killed and your loved ones will be alleviated of their mortgage because of your death. It's terrible. - mlbwebdesign, on 01/04/2009, -4/+22I'm a little disappointed in the Onion on this one.....wait what? This is supposed to be a serious story?
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -1/+18/Reference to Dwight from The Office
- iameric, on 01/04/2009, -3/+18This story sucks. In reality, the kids were born 26 minutes a part, and thats it.
Now if a second child was born weeks/months/years later and happened to be a twin, that would be crazy. - joeallam, on 01/04/2009, -1/+15How about triplets in 3 different years...
- greeniemeani, on 01/04/2009, -1/+14Okay. What's your sister's phone number?
- neko6, on 01/04/2009, -1/+14and it would be much rarer for twins to be born on different countries and millenia, I think we can drop the discussion just about here...
- Kerrigore, on 01/04/2009, -1/+14Wow, you learned to type really fast.
- neonblue2, on 01/04/2009, -0/+13And your twin was born when?
- opticwind, on 01/04/2009, -0/+12I think the cut off is actually September...I mean it wouldn't make sense to start classes around August but have a cut-off time in December. It'd be too lopsided.
- DaltonZ, on 01/04/2009, -5/+16This kind of story pops up quite often, especially around Christmas and New Year. It's not rare, and it's not interesting. Buried.
- OnSolThree, on 01/04/2009, -2/+12@ G-RaZoR- Except that Feb 29th birthdays happen for 24 hours on that day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day babies are only born during a couple hours' span.
- ElBeh, on 01/04/2009, -1/+10You cared enough to comment.
- krystofr, on 01/04/2009, -4/+13cool, except for the fact that they only get the big tax deduction on one of the kids!
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -1/+10This happened to me, except the other twin was in my stomach.
- tomjm5000, on 01/04/2009, -0/+8I thought it was brought about by having no year zero, so after one hundred completed years it was 101, 201, 301.... 2001 ?
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -2/+10I thought this was going to be some cool weird *****, but nope, just another ***** case of making anything that happens over new years special.
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -1/+9Geocities? Really?
- davidbeile, on 01/04/2009, -0/+8That wasn't very nice. I think you owe AboveandBeyond an apology.
- ColdDimSum, on 01/04/2009, -0/+8It's your basic life insurance policy. Why is terrible unless you are saying that all insurance ads are terrible which I agree with.
- jfreeman, on 01/04/2009, -0/+7You're doing it wrong: almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
- toejamz, on 01/04/2009, -1/+8Sounds terrible doesn't it? Except it's not.
I'm a daddy with lotsa kids. I have very extensive insurance ($1 million, to be exact) because if I go, I want to make sure, to the best of my ability, that they will have a house to live in and college paid for.
Maybe it sounds terrible, but $1 million is much less than I will make if I live for the next 20 years, but is enough that the worries I mention above are at least possible.
All insurance = you get paid when bad things happen. - dhughes, on 01/04/2009, -1/+8 The best is (if it ever happened) when twins are born while crossing the International Date line in the Pacific Ocean and on New Year's Eve! That way the oldest twin is a year younger than the youngest twin.
- arapro, on 01/04/2009, -9/+16yawn
