- 1021, on 10/12/2007, -2/+53They missed one about Kennedy and Lincoln:
Lincoln had a secretary, last name Kennedy, who didn't want him to go to Ford theater. Kennedy had a secretary, last name Lincoln, who didn't want him to go to Texas. - notforsale, on 10/12/2007, -1/+47"Morgan Robertson's 1898 novella Futility had many parallels with the RMS Titanic disaster; the book concerned a fictional state-of-the-art ocean liner called Titan, which (like the Titanic) eventually collides with an iceberg on a calm April night whilst en route to New York, with many dying because of the lack of lifeboats. Various other details in the book coincide with the Titanic disaster. Later, she wrote a book, Beyond the Spectrum, that described a future war fought with aircraft that carried "sun bombs". Incredibly powerful, one bomb could destroy a city, erupting in a flash of light that blinds all who look at it. The war begins in December, started by the Japanese with a sneak attack on Hawaii. "
That's definitely one of the more interesting ones. - z00k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+43http://www.duggmirror.com/offbeat_news/Top_15_Strangest_Coincidences_3/
http://www.duggmirror.com - ArrEmmDee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28God apparently reuses storyline ideas!
- bentrop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Most of these coincidences seem forced or inaccurate.
Mark Twain was indeed born and he died around the time of Halley's Comet but so did thousands of other people. He did not however day on "day of the appearance" which wouldn't really be a one day only occurrence anyways. Mark Twain died April 21st that year, Halley's Comet was most prominent May 18th, a month later.
There isn't and never was a magazine called "Das Besteran" in Germany, the word doesn't exist nor does it make any sense at all. If you search Google for this magazine you will simply find a lot of translations of this list of coincidences, excluding a German one. While the story might have a core of truth, the way it is told seems to be incredibly incorrect. All details to the story seem to be made up.
I could go on, but this list looks more like a list of urban legends than a list of factual coincidences. - IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -8/+36Yes.
Your point being? - GoldenGopher1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30They missed another - I picked up my phone and was about to call my brother and when I picked up - HE WAS ALREADY ON THE PHONE!! HE was going to call ME! It all happened so quickly, I don't think I will ever recover....
- sideshowRAHEEM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21"Mark Twain was born on the day of the appearance of Halley's Comet in 1835, and died on the day of its next appearance in 1910."
more evidence to support my theory that Mark Twain was an alien. - zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Article posted on digg goes dead. Coincidence? I think not.
Bonus: Article hosted on a ASP server goes dead. Coincidence? You decide. - Skas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I thought it wasn't half bad, but the Lincoln-JFK stuff is a little overreaching.
- afeitarse, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28Um, those aren't coincidences...just interesting facts.
- MrChocolate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20I agree.
There is no way that Kennedy said, "If somebody wants to shoot me from a window with a rifle, nobody can stop it." Way too specific to say. - Dolomite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17nah, it's not you. Its not unusual for people to keep re-submitting the same articles over and over again.
- effward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16@ thestorey
It's either coincidence or hacks :P - MSTK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Those are coincidences. The only presidents to sign the Declaration of Independence dies on the exact day of the half centennial, within hours apart.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16@1021
Uh, no, they didn't miss that one because it's an urban legend. Per Snopes:
This is one of those coincidences that isn't a coincidence at all -- it's simply wrong. John Kennedy did have a secretary named Evelyn Lincoln (who may or may not have warned him about going to Dallas), but one searches in vain to find a Lincoln secretary named Kennedy. (Lincoln's White House secretaries were John G. Nicolay and John Hay.)
http://www.snopes.com/history/american/linckenn.htm - aurrea, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23These are the dumbest coincidences I've EVER heard:
A. Lincoln and J.F. Kennedy
Life
Both presidents had 7 letters in their last name.
Both were over 6' feet tall.
Both men studied law.
Both seemed to have lazy eye muscles, which would sometimes cause one to deviate.
Both suffered from genetic diseases. It is suspected that Lincoln had Marfan's disease, and Kennedy suffered from Addison's disease.
Both served in the military. Lincoln was a scout captain in the Black Hawk War, and Kennedy served as a navy lieutenant in World War II.
Both were boat captains. Lincoln was a skipper for the Talisman, a Mississippi River boat, and Kennedy was skipper of the PT 109.
Both had no fear of their mortality and disdained bodyguards.
Both often stated how easy it would be to shoot the president. Lincoln supposedly said, "If somebody wants to take my life, there is nothing I can do to prevent it." Kennedy supposedly said "If somebody wants to shoot me from a window with a rifle, nobody can stop it." Note that both these quotes are each 16 words long. - Mearn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15They missed the one where Al Gore was born almost exactly nine months after the Roswell UFO incident of 1947. Or was that a coincidence?
- ch33sehead, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I stopped reading that one at "Both men studied law." OF COURSE THEY STUDIED LAW! How many presidents didn't study law?
- jettloe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Just did a quick check - several of the 'coincidences' = not true/urban myths/exaggerated.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11what about Henry Hudson finding the Hudson Bay? I mean what are the odds of that...
- thepromise, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Wow, Lincoln and JFK.... there must have been a glitch in the Matrix.

- md81544, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Sounds fascinating, but reading his Wikipedia entry paints a different picture: "the novel's resemblance to the Pearl Harbor attack is remote", "Despite claims to the contrary, airplanes do not play a role in the 1914 short story, nor does the United States use "sun bombs" on Japan" &c. &c.

what a surprise 2 tourists finding each other in one of the biggest tourist attractions in a city. What are the odds? I'd say pretty damn good. - technothrasher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Wow, I guess I'm the opposite of Shakespeare... I was born on my birthday!

hereditary disease = fatally allergic to lightning - alexgg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I recently got an assignment in high school, where our History Teacher asked about this Kennedy and Lincoln coincidences and doing my research I found out this pages among many others. Thought you might liked them.

http://www.kilty.com/l_and_k.htm - RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14Very interesting, especially the Titanic one. I'm surprised they left this one off (from Wiki):
*Jefferson and John Adams were the only signers of the Declaration of Independence to become Presidents.
*On July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, Adams died at Quincy, after (allegedly) uttering the famous last words "Thomas Jefferson still survives." Unbeknownst to Adams, Jefferson had died five hours earlier. - ArrEmmDee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Hello http://duggmirror.com/

- chocolatey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Oh, and Shakespeare died on his birthday.
And to pre-empt the inevitable: Yes, it is remarkable how he managed to squeeze all those plays into just one day. - antonio97b, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oregon's Columbian newspaper?
Vancouver, Washingtons newspaper is The Columbian.
Oregon's main newspaper the Oregonian. There is no "Oregon Columbian".

You can no more demonstrate that he didn't say those words than anybody can demonstrate that he did. Probably not true but there's no telling for certain either way. - slayerab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Oregon's Columbian newspaper announced the winning Pick 4 lottery numbers for June 28, 2000 in advance. The newspaper had intended to print the previous set of winning numbers but erroneously printed those for the state of Virginia, namely 6-8-5-5. In the next Oregon lottery, those same numbers were drawn."
On the first anniversary of 9/11, the pick three lotto numbers for that night in NYC was 911... - carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3haha, you might want to not use .inc for your includes...

:) - daGUY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm in a band called FUNK 101, and we got together my freshman year of college in November 2003 (in New York). While searching our name online just to see what would come up, we found another band in Iowa named FUNK 101, that also formed in November 2003.
