- justastatistic, on 03/28/2008, -1/+33Is it me or the Daily Mail frequently on the front page with 'news' that can easily be fabricated to appear mildly amusing?
- humanerror, on 04/03/2008, -0/+16It's not just you. Some guys from daily mail are digg spamming like it's their job. In fact, it probably is their job.
- brufleth, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2What? You don't find a list of parking tickets amusing?
Seriously though, this is amazing in how lame it is. - jorisb, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2The story about the horse is clearly fabricated, how would you know who to ticket?
- DaDrake, on 03/28/2008, -16/+6Anyone surprise that this is the UK? Long ago they gave up all common sense, and freedom, to live in that beautiful police state.
If your in the UK... do yourself a favor.... move to a country where you won't be placed in jail for defending your life.- danic85, on 03/28/2008, -7/+5Wow... you're well educated, aren't you?
- bosssmiley, on 03/28/2008, -1/+10He's right. Google "Tony Martin" sometime, or ask a lawyer mate about how our government have systematically got rid of the rights of habeus corpus, trial by jury, presumption of innocence, the double jeopardy rule, *and* our right of public assembly. All this has been within the last 15 years and with the tacit assent of the British people.
A police state is no less a police state when the tyrants wear good suits and mouth democratic platitudes.- danic85, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Dugg for a valid comment, where do you think we should move to?
- Rikm, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4Asia's pretty nice.

- isunktheship, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2WOW stop using "wow"!
...plus it's a valid point...XD

- argo2d, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2live the good old US or A?
- plingboot, on 03/28/2008, -2/+2This is just another made up daily mail article. It's there agenda to portray the UK like this.
- paperclipsNsoup, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Its not just the UK that gave up common sense, I got a ticket 2 months ago for going 69mph in a 65mph... Ok i was speeding a bit, but the ticket cost me $230 after the traffic school fee ($15 for the class, $25 for the court fee).
Then again the Santa Clarita Valley in California has some of the highest priced tickets in the country
- danic85, on 03/28/2008, -7/+5Wow... you're well educated, aren't you?
- crownedgriffin, on 03/28/2008, -5/+3This reminds me of when I used to live a few blocks a college. We couldn't fit all the cars into the driveway, so someone had to park on the street. If you over slept and didn't move your car in the morning, you'd get a ticket. Once I tried squeezing my car into the driveway, and later found a ticket for blocking the sidewalk.
- travis1982, on 03/28/2008, -15/+8Move to where? The US? haha..that's a ***** joke. Yea lets move from the UK where the crime rate is very low...to the US where ya get shot from douchebags on a power trip. ill take the all seeing eye of the streets of London over the at&t government owned monitoring phone calls..letting murderers getting away..well with murder..getting mugged by some random granny, and being imprisoned for...pretty much anything if the police and courts feel like it.
- inverselogic, on 03/28/2008, -3/+2tazed from douchebags on a power strip, tazed..
- isunktheship, on 03/28/2008, -8/+3It's the most lucrative country in the world, California alone is the second highest earning area in the world. Our society has the best quality of living, and with that brings people who want to TAKE. The article is about how strict the UK is, or how ridiculous their police actions are and yet you claim that the US will "imprison people for pretty much anything". You sure sound knowledgeable! If America cut Canada off, so to speak, dumb asses like you would have the privilege of going to real colleges in the states, where they don't teach you how to say "eh?" and play hockey.
But plz stay in "little america", we don't want you or your socialized health care.- Kahlzarg, on 03/28/2008, -2/+4Ahh.. so you must live in Iceland, as they by the UN's HDI have the highest standard of living. Here is my source: http://hdr.undp.org/en/statistics/ , what are you using to come up with yours? As for imprisoning people, read this summary of the Pew Report sunshine: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ... As for your California boast, there are over half a dozen countries that GNP beat California. Cal is *only* the highest earning state in the US, There are location in the world outside your borders. Besides, I bet 80% of Cal earn more than you, so its all relative.
As for locking people up, your country has a higher percentage of people in jail than China. A good thing you can come back with some ***** weak whinge about Canada and your colleges without actually making any valid point. So either you are a product of a failed college system, or you are boasting about a system you were too stupid to be a part of. In any case, when you are masturbating into your flag, pretending about how great your country is, be sure you don't let the facts get in the way of your own self perceived self importance, otherwise someone might accidentally think you come from somewhere other than the U.S. of A.

- FilliSfandal, on 03/28/2008, -1/+3Parking tickets are good business for a city, a store or who ever has parking space. Which is why there are so many companies who will patrol your space and hand out tickets for a share of fines.
there are a couple of supermarkets that I don't use anymore because of a overzealous "parking ticket company". I left a note in their mail/suggestion box if they had one, saying that I would not shop there anymore. But I know that me not shopping there, is much less of a loss than the income from the parking tickets.- Oracle95, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2The city of Philadelphia got in trouble back while I was in college (or at least it made the news) for writing parking tickets to legally parked cars. Apparently, the court assigned to those tickets charges fees higher than the parking fine to have the ticket dismissed, so they made more money if you fought the ticket than if you shut up and paid the fine.
- dbitabus, on 03/28/2008, -7/+1Its the life you @ us people choose for ourselves "government control",suck it up speeding ticket complainers government officials hold every one accountable even tho they are only human to and do the same things you do but what makes them different is that their on the other side of the line .... your to scared to live for yourselves so someone has to make a profit of you and your family.. "fuc the free word its a lie" eat my word kids its nutritious!!!
These Are The Times- Rikm, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2The solution is to stay and work for change by organizing groups (such as NO2ID), voting, or just pack up and emigrate.
Unfortunately all of these require education and by the look of your post you missed that boat. Seriously, if you are under 16 think about getting your head down and studying.
The times of getting a degree to secure a good job in the UK are over, but a UK bachelors is still most definitely your best shot as a passport out of the country.- danic85, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1I hear Asia is pretty nice.

- pax85, on 03/28/2008, -6/+1This reminds of a story I heard/read about recently. Because of a rule/law or something the city issued less parking tickets than usual, thus gaining less money. Now they are removing this law/rule gain more money gain.
God, I just can't remember the details or where it was... maybe someone else does. - makkaveli19, on 03/28/2008, -3/+5this ***** me off, i hate unreasonable parking officers. i was sitting in my car parked by a yellow curb. i was there for less than 2 mins and the guys writes my a ticket. i try to explain it to him and he threatens to call the cops on me.... douche bag
- allfatherblack, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Im not saying you deserved it, and Im sure he was/is a douche bag, but I mean... you admitted to breaking the law. Maybe if you explain it to US we can swing but Im gonna need a little more info before I disqualify this as a sob story
- allfatherblack, on 03/28/2008, -2/+8Wow you wrote an entire mildly interesting article just to *****-punch your readers with "Absolutely no Ikea." You make me sick... >:/
- delmar14, on 03/28/2008, -0/+10I got one in Milwaukee (from the government) when my car got plowed in with snow (by the government)
- karebu, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4In Singapore if parking wardens give out tickets without verifying the plate/offence, they get penalized monetarily. Their wages are actually below average and that hits them hard.
perhaps those guys should do likewise. it saves alot of paperwork (appealing and crap like that) - reisrocks, on 03/28/2008, -4/+2# 11: Mr Smith was driving down the road when Godzilla picked up his car, eat it, pooped it out half digested, then blazed the remains in a big ball of fire. A traffic warden then came along and slapped a ticket for £100. Booo haa!!
- WhichWayDidHeGo, on 03/28/2008, -0/+8I had parked my company truck in front of my house and the battery died. My dad came over and was in the process of giving me a jump when the meter maid pulled up giving tickets for blocking the street sweeper. I explained to her what was going on (which was obvious from the jumper cables in my hand), so she said she would be nice and only ticket my truck but not my dads!
Was going to fight it, but it was only $22, so I paid the damn thing.- tony23, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1"Was going to fight it, but it was only $22, so I paid the damn thing"
Which is exactly what they count on.
- tony23, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1"Was going to fight it, but it was only $22, so I paid the damn thing"
- ficktj, on 03/28/2008, -3/+2Absolutely no Ikea.
Golden - DNABeast, on 03/28/2008, -0/+6I got slapped with a $70 fine while donating blood in an emergency situation to a leukaemia sufferer.
I challenged it in court and got off but it would have cost less to pay it when you consider the time I could have spent working,..
Oh, and the girl came out of her coma when she got my blood.- ncapone, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1You really are the DNABeast!
- DNABeast, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1Hey! YEAH!!!
- WildTang3nt, on 03/28/2008, -2/+1Ya, all credibility for this story was lost when I saw the 2nd last story and then saw it's pretty much an advertisement for this AppealNow.com site. The Daily Mail shall receive no further diggs from myself, and in fact will be buried as inaccurate for now on and I'd encourage everyone else here to do the same.
- exidor, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1It's interesting to see the minimal effort various publications put into stories like this, essentially reprinting a list given to them by someone promoting a book. It's like copying someone else's school paper and changing a few words. For example, here's the Times Online version of the same story from a few weeks ago: http://timesbusiness.typepad.com/money_weblog/2008 ... .. theirs is perhaps a bit more whimsical with phrases like "trusty steed" being substituted for "horse", and the lady whose car was hit by a tree "miraculously" escaping death.
At least they all take the time to come up with those hilariously punny headlines for each one. - dsa202, on 03/28/2008, -2/+0The law, is the LAW.
- earthforce1, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1That doesn't make it right, there are lots of bad laws in the world. These laws are created by backroom city hall bureaucrats to rake in some profit without the politically unpopular move of raising taxes, not handed down by deities on stone tablets. And they wonder why people don't want to go downtown anymore...

- Farceur318, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Wait a minute, are you telling me that if I illegally park my horse I could get... a ticket?! Or that, if through some unfortunate circumstance, I am unable to move my car an officer who is unaware of that fact could give me a ticket that I might actually have to appeal?
Zounds! What a truly Orwellian society we are living in today when authority figures can cause such dastardly cases of minor inconvenience! I say down with the whole mustachioed, tazer-toting lot of them! Anarchy in the UK! - darthom, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Fabricated or not, cops are stupid, universally.
- IconoclastStill, on 04/19/2008, -0/+0Parking cops, maybe, but not all LEOs. Besides, do you have the guts to risk your life every day to protect people who call you a stupid pig? Think about it.
- IconoclastStill, on 04/19/2008, -0/+0Unless the ticket is in an area where I live, I simply toss it in the shredder - screw 'em. I had something like $500 in unpaid parking tickets from DC, NYC, Philly and such places in 1970 and a few thousand since. Never paid a dime. Then again, perhaps people such as I are responsible for the invention of the boot. I figure it makes up for the ones I received in circumstances somewhat akin to those described in the submission. Never did much like authority figures . . . .
