Ghosts are imaginary. - inactive, on 11/01/2008, -0/+28Having the Amityville House on here is just laughable, especially if it's the first one you see; it ruins the credibility of this already barely credible premise. The guy who had those 'hauntings' made up most of it, or exaggerated it behind belief, and then it was milked for all its worth, making a bunch of people rich. It was all money making off of a horrible murder by a man who was delusional. The fact that the current residents have never reported a thing just strengthens this.
Now, I know some may point me to the picture of a ghost, but it just looks fake to me. See if you people agree.

It doesn't fit the typical ghost picture. They probably actually had a real boy there that night. - Stroggoth, on 11/01/2008, -1/+25House 1 - Amityville turned out to be a scam, they admitted it at some point.
- AManWithNoName, on 11/01/2008, -1/+17You're right. Because our government has proven to be the most intelligent experts our country has to offer. *points at the last eight years*
- divinediva, on 10/31/2008, -3/+19I know I may sound stupid.. but really where could I volunteer to work in a haunted house?? I wanna see the ghost.. ;)
- projomni, on 10/31/2008, -5/+20good informative article--beyond sensational...
- inactive, on 10/31/2008, -4/+18The Whitehouse is haunted ;) ..yep.
- garvin122, on 11/01/2008, -4/+17white house is haunted by Bush.
- poidh, on 11/01/2008, -10/+23Ghosts don't exist.
Nor do pixies, fairies, leprechauns, etc. - TheBigBad, on 11/01/2008, -1/+13Can you provide a link to that? Why the F would the Commerce Dept have any say on whether a place is haunted? That's ridiculous.
- MimoSkater, on 11/01/2008, -0/+12That picture scares the crap outta me.
- iamdan1, on 11/01/2008, -0/+11Who are you going to call?
- qwertyxuiop, on 11/01/2008, -0/+11I ain't afraid of no ghosts!!
- FatLoser, on 11/01/2008, -4/+13#11. Barbara Streisand's snatch.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -0/+9Dugg for the Winchester house.
- willster580, on 11/01/2008, -0/+8You say that as though the U.S. Department of Commerce is any sort of authority on the matter. Their haunting claim is about as valuable as a mechanic telling you how to properly examine the DNA of a spider.
- ZeeZee2k, on 11/01/2008, -0/+8Halloween?
- asunesara, on 11/01/2008, -2/+9*****. Terrible article. I usually love time but when it comes to those lists (influential people, etc) they suck. Here's why: Every list they have has "of the world" or "in the planet" yet more than 80 percent of those lists have western places, figures, icons etc.
Basically...in the entire list, not one haunted place is from the Eastern, African, or South American world. What's up with that? I honestly doubt Africa and India do not have some creepy ass places.
It's such an American/Western thing to say..."we're the champions of the world" when you win the "World" series or the NBA championship .."the best in team in the world". Sorry, *****. I love our teams, sports, culture...but we need to give more credit to other countries...especially news sources like TIME. - zeebo, on 11/01/2008, -0/+6Santa Claus, of course he's real. He's an integral part of the advertising budget of Coca-Cola.
Jesus of Nazareth probably not, since Nazareth doesn't seem to have existed during the time that he supposedly lived. However, there's nothing inherently implausible about a wandering religious teacher who got put to death by the Romans. Its just everything else that's unlikely to have ever happened. If you could go back in time to try to find Jesus, its unlikely that you'd find him. First off, he probably didn't speak greek so you'd actually be looking for a guy named Yeshua. Who was probably a member of the Nazareans, and that is where you'd run into the big problem. They were pretty much all named Yeshua. It would be like trying to find a single specific Mohammad in Mecca today. - zeebo, on 11/01/2008, -3/+9There are way scarier things that Ghosts. Birds, blonde children, and religious cults to name a few.
- EarthBoundX5, on 11/01/2008, -0/+6funny thing about both of those two is that they actually existed, but over the years what they did got blown so out of proportion that people cant help but deny they existed.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -0/+6My father grew up on the same street as the Ammityville House. He never had any interesting stories about it, but he was living there when the murders happened.
- Lith25, on 11/01/2008, -0/+6Fake or not...it's pretty freaky.
- milkshaker, on 11/01/2008, -0/+6They forgot MJ's house.
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 11/01/2008, -0/+5What about Jerome, AZ? I've heard it's pretty haunted, especially the old asylum.
- maus56, on 11/01/2008, -0/+5Many are the people that are known to haunt pubs.
- robthom, on 11/01/2008, -1/+6Cool idea for a list, buried for clicking through 10 pages.
- Brak710101, on 11/01/2008, -1/+6I find most ghost stuff to be hilarious these days. I think it's all the "A Haunting" type shows. Honestly, like every episode they have paranormal investigators they mention seeing something on the cameras at some point, but we never get to see the video.
Even a little peak?
No. :'( - junskey, on 11/01/2008, -0/+5do-do-do-do-do-do dodododododo
- Caleb666, on 11/01/2008, -1/+5You are obviously an idiot....
- adamk0310, on 11/01/2008, -0/+4The ten most "haunted" places are probably equal to the ten least haunted places.
- tallguyg, on 11/01/2008, -2/+6buried for:
10 ***** pages
10 ***** (i.e. ghost) stories - Lith25, on 11/01/2008, -0/+4I'm as much an atheist as the next digger, but I'm not so sure it's a closed case. We might believe that our emotions, our character, everything we are, is simply electrical impulses in the brain. But who's too say there isn't a more ethereal 4th dimension part of our body we havn't yet identified.
Maybe it's just Halloween and I'm wishing ghosts were real so I could see some. - willster580, on 11/01/2008, -5/+9Despite breaking many laws of physics?
- MrBrother, on 11/01/2008, -4/+8And what of Santa Clause?
Jesus of Nazareth? - MaTT2011, on 11/01/2008, -0/+4But i "want" to believe and i choose to believe, therefor you should respect my belief(s) no matter how illogical, sensational or baseless they may be!
Oh wait, thats what stupid people say... - inactive, on 11/01/2008, -0/+4And Christians "believe" they eat their god every Sunday. Welcome to the belief club.
- MicroMacro, on 11/01/2008, -0/+4He's talking about something that happened in the 1800s. Probably all that needs to be said.
- poidh, on 11/01/2008, -3/+7Santa - no.
Jesus was probably real but all that miracle stuff was *****. - PaulOwen, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3* in the USA.
Oh they do mention a few well known landmarks in the UK, none of which are considered to especially haunted by the people who follow these things. If they had done their homework instead of navel-gazing they would have at least come up with Borley Rectory in the UK:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borley_Rectory
As it is, the article (like so many top ten articles featured on digg) is precisely like the US World Series (for Americans only) - insular, irrelevant and rather pitiful. - zeebo, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3A toy that unpacks itself every time its put away. It sounds more like people just ***** around to scare their co-workers.
- CompUComp, on 11/01/2008, -1/+4Amazing compilation. Dugg.
- maus56, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3I'm haunted by the clicks.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -1/+4Cartesians can all burn in hell.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3I want to digg this, but I just can't bring myself to do it considering they left out Borley Rectory.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borley_Rectory - inactive, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3i'd pay to see a ghost. that means a lot in this economy.
- jdehoff7595, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3Time dropped the ball on this one. The Winchester House was investigated by TAPS (Say what you will, I think they're good.) and their conclusion was, "Any place that has a gift shop out in front... probably isn't as haunted as they claim."
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -1/+4Every halloween the same 'haunted places' story appear, fact is there are no ghosts, never were, never will be.
If there were ghosts, we would be swimming in them, there would be one for every being that has ever lived on the planet and you'd see them all over the place. - Brododium, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3Especially considering that many other cultures have a greater folkloric depth than Western ones.
- PhantomZmoove, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3I lost interest about halfway through because I got tired of clicking to the next god damn page.
