- Technophiliac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Dude I don't think he ment it as an insult.
- duzytata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16You make a good point but remember that people don't have to own a computer to be on digg. Schools, libraries, and Internet Cafe's all offer internet access. And even if a person doesn't have a lot of money, they don't need a very powerful computer to access the internet. My dad uses a PII 233Mhz PC to check his email, and that's all he does. You can find a computer at least that powerful in the trash if you go out and look.

I'm not doing well at all and I have a computer. It may not be state-of-the-art but I made it myself for a decent price and can play the games I want to. When you're a gamer and love computers, you save up enough to get one.
Also, people could buy a computer, and 2 years later be poor, so your logic is kind of bad. - whisk3rs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Gee, who pooped in your cheerios?
- NoStoppingUs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11@whisk3rs
maybe someone came in his salad dressing?
.:shudder:. - NoStoppingUs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8why not just say "bah humbug"?
jesus. - excalibrax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I got my computer to go to college. Juggling courses with a 20 hour a week job is just enough to pay expenses. When I'm living paycheck to paycheck, yes i think I am to poor to donate.
- Arkitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I was just going for the alliteration laugh, looks like I missed my mark.
- MattBoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I just ordered Viva Pinata and an extra PS2 controller for the sick kids in Gainsville Florida.
What have you donated? - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@mrfoos:
Speak for yourself. There are a ton of students here and just because someone owns a computer doesn't mean they're rich, student or not. For all you know poor people read Digg at the library or a friend's house. Don't be an ass, some people have valid reasons not to donate.
edit: duzytata beat me to this below, doh! - 15charmaxwtf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No one is trying to force you to donate. Hell, they aren't even trying to guilt trip you like some charities do.
- Arkitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't see how what I did was digg whoring, it isn't like I posted this on my blog, and I couldn't care less how many front page stories I get. Perhaps that is the way you think, but don't lump me in with that mindset.
I can't afford to donate, so I put some of the printable flyers up on campus and posted to digg. In fact I tried to get people to digg other peoples articles about this, but they never got any traction.
I just wanted to help, if you're too cynical to see that then you're welcome to your opinion.
Happy Holidays
Arkitan - NoStoppingUs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4i gave all of my money to that 8 wishes guy...twice
and once to j robbins..
if only you could add an old chick ringing a bell to the front page of digg everytime one of these pops up
:( - D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Hey, this applies to me...
I'm too poor, but I can Digg... - Yez70, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Belittling his efforts is just as low.
Not everyone reads Digg every minute of the day and nobody reads every front paged article. If they do, they are the ones who really need to find a life.
Awareness has been raised, so more money will be raised. Digg is an exellent outlet for this, as the people chose to Digg - not just you and your holier than thou opinion. - tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I dugg the story and now that I know about this charity I actually am going to donate some DVDs to the Children's Hospital near me.
- 2L84ME, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I'm too young, and I don't have a credit/debit card but I'd love to help out; Dugg!
- scrubadub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's their money don't tell them what to do with it
and we won't tell you what to do with yours - watersoftener, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1let donating books to charities..
http://donating-books-to-charities.blogspot.com - 1iProd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Dugg for being awesome.
- Arkitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like the guys over at VGcats are trying to raise some money for Child's Play.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280060447565#ebayphotohosting - williamjones, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1Hi ,You may think money is not the only way to give to charity, there are other various options where providing daily need things can help better than giving money only.
For that in this season you can visit dollar wholesale online shop.Where you will find various products which you can donate in charity there products are at very less price and higher quality.i.e. http://www.dollardays.com - Arkitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It certainly isn't meant as an insult, I've been reading Penny-Arcade for years, I just liked the alliteration; though admittedly I'm not sure it is, since it doesn't start with the same letter, just the same sound.
- Aeror, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so everyone who reads digg will help spread the word by digging it so other diggers who just diggs it can digg it!
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I honestly don't know how people are seeing "foul-mouthed" as an insult. :-) Is it possible that people think philanthropist is a dirty word? ... for what it's worth I could tell it was a joke.
- golemShed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It's not his fault. He's just another victim of claw shrimp violence.
- markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2You, sir, are a dick.
(h0dg3s, just to clarify) - murphy264, on 11/27/2008, -0/+0A small non-emergency ambulance service has also helped in getting the injured peoples to the hospitals I hate to remember those time .http://www.1800ambulance.net/service.html
- krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -1/+1"raising awareness" is one of the stupidest phrases created by activists for causes that no one really gives a ***** about. this seems to be a good cause, but when you slap on the marketing that typical activists use, it's clearly cheapens the cause.

- p00p, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hey sounds like supply-side economics!
- rhombus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It took me 32 years to figure it out, but if you can go to college, work a job, have a computer, and buy yourself clothes, you are definitely not too poor to donate. Mrfoos is dead right. Excuses are excuses. People make choices. Ever heard of "pay yourself first"? If you want, you can contribute to good causes in exactly the same way.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5why digg? you're not actually raising awareness, if you're at digg and havn't heard of penny arcade then one question - what the hell are you even doing here?
not to downplay their good cause, but digg whoring a charity site for yourself (Arkitan) is pretty low - CursorTN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1H0dg3s, you know karma is gonna be a bitch on that comment, don't you? I'd get a prostate check if I were you.
- DooDooFace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Here you go kids, enjoy this comment. Hope it helped.
- shoover, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Well I'm pretty sure he was joking when he made that comment.
Granted, it wasn't funny, but still. - mmoct, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I posted this on digg yesterday. So while we're on the subject of helping, please check this out and help if you can:

- CursorTN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Happy Holidays, indeed!
If you need a little incentive to give, cheapassgamer.com is having a fundraising raffle for Child's Play and are giving away a $1000 gift certificate to Play-Asia, as well as $100 cash and other gaming-related gifts.

They've got a raffle going on over at Joystiq, too--but the prizes dont' look as good:
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/12/the-joystiq-childs-play-charity-raffle - monergism, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Support children in other countries. They need food, not video games.
I understand boredom is bad, but it isn't terminal. - sporefrog, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Yeah the foul-mouthed part was really out of place, especially considering the nature of the article. I assume it was in good taste and Kugellehr overreacted, but still. Great guys, great articles, great comics, great website, great charity -- SUPPORT THEM!
- p00p, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1nm digg me down 8-)
***** ALL 9/11 VICTIMS
(or digg me up for my hilarity) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3No one reading this is too poor to donate. Excuses are just that.
- h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4Why in the hell should I donate to children that are too lazy to get jobs? There are plenty of sickly children working in sweatshops in other countries. Children have never done anything nice for me. How about they pay the rest of my way through college and I'll buy them a Wii?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1BURY THIS *****!
- jacobee519, on 10/12/2007, -21/+6If you can afford a computer to digg, isn't it silly to say that you can't afford to donate? Sure there are some people who need to keep the money, but somehow I think the majority of the digg crowd are doing pretty well, relative to people in need anyways.
- Kugellehr, on 10/12/2007, -31/+0foul mouth philanthropists? They are great men with great cartoons...down to earth guys. Do i see you earning 2 mil to help poor kids? hmm? Yeah exactly ive donated to this cause for 2 years now. Whoever posted this...you're a dick.
