Wow... let me relate a little story about possums. Several years ago we had a rabid one in our yard. It was screaming - literally screaming - and baring its teeth. If youve never seen a possum hiss at you, just imagine the mouth of a T-Rex on a smaller scale. Anyway, my neighbor is a gun nut, so he comes over with a pistol to shoot the thing. So he walks over, puts the gun inches from its head, and fires. The possum barely flinches. No, my neighbor didnt miss. He shoots it again. And again. And a couple more times. Finally, after nearly the entire clip is emptied into this critters head/body, it stops moving. We leave it there (since its getting dark out) and plan on getting rid of the body in the morning.
So the next morning my dad gets up, looks out the window, and what does he see? The possum is wandering around in the middle of the street. Yep, the same one that just got shot 6 times. So my dad finally traps the thing in a trash can, fills the trashcan with water, and has to hold the possum underwater for a good 5 minutes before it stops thrashing around. Finally, the beast is dead.
It turns out that possums are completely prehistoric - the reason the gunshots didnt kill it is because they dont have brains that work the way yours and mine do - theirs run the entire length of their spine, so you have to destroy the entire spine to destroy the brain.
The point of the story? Dont ***** with a possum. - Tamriel, on 10/11/2007, -11/+91Do I smell a digg down war!?

- Kinjiru, on 10/11/2007, -14/+29@ Monolith3 & most others in this thread
Possum and Opossum are NOT the same.
Possum is also used in North America as a diminutive for the Virginia Opossum. (aka slang by the uneducated)
As for it being rabid that is highly unlikely.. since they are extremely resistant to rabies.
And their brains do NOT extend the length of the spine... please educate yourselves before you spew such complete garbage..
Where did you get that crap anyhow? Your nearest inbred hick from local trailer park???
I mean holy crap that's beyond ***** stupid.
Anyone wanting to learn a little more about the REAL info should perhaps try these links for a start:

And for those wanting to see a REAL brain in this case:
http://www.baa.duke.edu/companat/BAA_289L_2004/Brain/Opossum/opossumbrain.htm - Gir53457, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15Yeah, Possums don't get rabies. They do that to scare away other animals. They're experts at deception and can fake their deaths literally. You may not have killed it even after drowning it. They can reduced their breathing to practically nil and stop most of their brain functions on whim. You killed it for being normal.

Rule #2: DON'T TALK ABOUT TINY ANIMAL FIGHT CLUB. - loper, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9I misread the title as 'tiny fingers on animals' ....
- deejqu1k, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Can someone say "Tiny Animals on Fingers.....With hats"
- s8n666, on 10/11/2007, -9/+12The scariest part of this is that all of those pictures were taken from a restaurant menu from Thailand.
- dolemite5005, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I'm still trying to comprehend how Monolith3's comment has 131 diggs. I have concluded that Digg's members have no less than 131 idiots amongst them.

- HarveyBar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Nice copy and paste routine.
- Davies, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5According to Wikipedia, possums can't contract rabies due to their low blood pressure. The rabies-like symptoms you mentioned sound like its just "playing-possum".
- jklyon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2More like AwwwwAHHHHHH! for those spiders.

An opossum and a possum are the same thing. Possum is just slang. - ricksite, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2They all look photoshopped to me. It looks like they used the crop tool!
- desmondregan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1alot of these pictures look like they've been modified by adobe photoshop.
- phunkyA, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1On some of these I smell photoshop ....... like someone wearing too much designer imposter body spray.
But some are real. and to give credit it's a good photoshop job, but I know 'em when I see 'em.
- ronsii, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3yeh, well just wait till that little sucker opens it's jaws and latches on to that big juicy finger and starts to rip into the warm tantalizing red blooded flesh shaking his head back and forth trying to tear off a piece! SMACKKKK (possum smacks lips)

"According to Wikipedia, possums can't contract rabies due to their low blood pressure. The rabies-like symptoms you mentioned sound like its just "playing-possum"."
Umm you mean low blood temperature not pressure.
Also the hissing is one of their initial defense stances.. similar to a feline. - dcpassengerseat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1So Cute!!!

- Massif, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2What we really need are some close up shots of dogs with a wide angle lens.
