If it's real, that's some pretty impressive incompetence. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6156 pt bold headline > no headline

- MerryMortician, on 10/10/2007, -2/+59I was in the Marines for 8 years.. one of the funniest things that happened while working for the base newspaper is when one of our correspondents jokingly put "Master Gunny's Bitch" under his own name on a story rather than "correspondent" because he was always getting ***** things to do etc. It printed.. and hilarity ensued.

- Markpdotcom, on 10/10/2007, -5/+43If anyone has worked in the high pressure print industry you will know that these mistakes often happen with overworked, understaffed and underpaid print works! Proofreading means nothing if you don't have enough time to accurately check the document you've been working on for the past several hours! It often needs a fresh pair of eyes, which often, are not available!

- gencha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+35Photoshop? That was done with mspaint.
- BludClotAU, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28I remember seeing this for real on the 13th of September.
I subscribe to the Northern Leader and find that it is usually a high quality publication, seems they slipped up that day. - lcarsdeveloper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28Here's the online version: http://www.northernleader.com.au/07/sep13/news/02. ...
It's from the "Northern Leader", from Sep 13 2007. Looks like they thought of a headline after all... - Frozo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24THE RULE OF DIGG: If something does not fit into your small world of the strictest reality guidelines, it is shopped.
- ostracize, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24Well nobody ever really reads the...uh...headline...
- squirrelza, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22Which one is the sister and which one is the mother?
- abusive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19I don't know if that headline is any better.
- polerix, on 10/10/2007, -6/+25you think newspapers have proofreaders at 3 am, some editor probably left his orders and then left for his comfortable bed while the underpaid graphic designer has to figure out what to say while putting insipid stories to barely make ends meet at 4 am.
- tumoas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Man I feel bad for the people in the pic.. your moment of fame ruined..
- t0ken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Are you really upset?
- JohnnyXmas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17LOL The real headline is worse than the missing one.
- t0ken, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Somebody doesn't like their editors...
- adooga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15If you are calling shopped, just call it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13if it was fake i would have noted because of the pixels
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14I think this is more likely the internet equivalent: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22untitled+d ...
- h0td0gbung, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13"Bathrooms Unavailable: DHL Team Must Hold It For 20 More Minutes"
- t0ken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Agreed. I can't believe this made it through the entire edit/layout/printing process...
- chyya, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12self denial is the first step of your healing process my friend.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Yes! It (or parts of) really did come from a news paper, officially making it news.
- DesertDude, on 10/10/2007, -13/+23Hey, I bet...nah, I got nothin'.
- lcarsdeveloper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10It's The Northern Leader - http://www.northernleader.com.au/07/sep13/news/02. ...
- Spuy767, on 10/10/2007, -6/+16Best. . . Editor. . . Ever. . .
- sandbird, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I can easily imagine it. I used to work in a newspaper prepress department, and over the years I caught a couple of those that were released as ready to plate. These days, though, with more and more getting automated, a lot of these things don't go past that last set of eyes anymore.
- TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I'm about 99% sure Microsoft doesn't make print / newspaper publishing software, just the greeting card and newsletter crap no one uses. Nice try at slamming them for no reason, though.
- NSMike, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I take it as a challenge.
- timjim31, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11lighten up
- black27696, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8it's sharper because it's in 56pt. bold, idiot.
- Fracture98, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7The one in the middle.
- hammerpants, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7No, we wouldn't.
- black27696, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Or the tabloid version:
BOY EATS CONCRETE
think of a made-up story to put here. - aussieNickuss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'd say the typesetter didn't have all the info when they were keying it in so they put that in to go back to the editor or someone else before print. If thats the case, how the hell did it get passed the proofer?
- whatsthatsmell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Lemme guess polerix, you're an underpaid graphic designer
- aguynamedben, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5haha the Aussie media would do that. I was watching the news once and the reporter was at a kids golf camp and said "I am here with kids from the wrong side of the tracks, underprivileged kids learning how to play golf"
- wild, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Thats why you have a proofreading dept. We do.
