Actually, most cops have a couple of spots they sit and wait at regularly, because people like you know that they're there, but still speed regardless. - AlphaEta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+117Maybe this phenomenon wasn't unique to my hometown, but a local morning radio show had a segment in which people could call in to "salute" police officers.
For example, someone would call in and say, "I would like to salute the fine officer parked at the corner of 1st and Main." Then the hosts would yell "SALUTE".
By the time the segment ended you knew where every traffic cop in the city was hiding. It was hilarious! - rovertly, on 10/12/2007, -29/+125@ cockdiesel
That guy's comma usage is correct.
Go back to the fifth grade, moron. - Herolint, on 10/12/2007, -16/+88@allgrammarpolice
I had a college professor who would mark down papers if they didn't have enough commas. I had another professor who graded papers down if they had too many. I had another professor admit that comma usage is mostly just a matter of taste.
So higher education has taught me that winning a comma argument is like winning the special olympics. Sure, you won, but you're still retarded. - NateofWeberSt, on 10/12/2007, -13/+82@ rovertly
Not quite. The last comma isn't necessary. A comma comes before a conjunction (or, and, but, etc.) that separates two independent clauses. "Still speed regardless" is not independent. It doesn't even have a subject.
I don't really care either way. I'm just sayin'. Carry on. - damienpassehl, on 10/12/2007, -6/+72mirror.. http://img217.imageshack.us/my.php?image=copwarningsignjv4.jpg

You do realize, that is a good thing right? I'm an ex-LEO myself......95% of the time I would sit out in the open so everybody could see my cruiser.. We can only deter speeders, it's impossible to stop people from speeding all the time. If somebody thought "Hey a cop hides around this corner for a *speed trap*, slow down", we have done our job. - sctechguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+57Is is really that hard to type out 4 little letters: b-u-s-y, instead of saying "bz"?
- turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -5/+58thus the sign...

I bet it says that on the other side - 8177, on 10/12/2007, -1/+40man, i wish my city had awesome radio stations,
The funniest thing we get is how ***** the weather is. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38Wow.. that's ingenious. Time to call my radio station and tell them to steal the idea.

2 from digg and 1 on reddit (the original) with the same title.. - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27yeah, I wish they'd do that in my town, tell me where every cop in LA is....
- cougar618, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28True. But by the time you see him it's too late.
- wbgo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19They'd set up a speed trap round my parents' way. Didn't catch anyone all day. It turns out, a young lad was standing 400m before the police with a "speed trap" sign. His mate was standing 400m past them with a bucket and a "tips" sign.
- ispshadow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Truck drivers have been known to do something very much like that...It usually goes something like:
"Good morning Mr. Officer parked on I-10 Eastbound at the 144 mile marker. It's a lovely day, isn't it?"
It beats flashing oncoming traffic and getting ticketed for it. Plus, it works for miles out.. - blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Yes, but it made you look like a moron...And it got you dug down. I would say if you value others judgment on your intelligence then some proper grammar (not currently your problem), or at the least a valid attempt at spelling matters.
- 8177, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Those first two articles dont count.
vkr171 and rxzhang look like spam names, especially the former.
Lets digg real stories with real names.
Hypocrites rejoice! - KidVicious, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18"it's probably fake because it looks photoshoped, but I can't tell for sure. The "p" looks off."
Yes, I can tell from the pixels and having seen a few 'shops in my day. - kcmedic, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23I think the "phrase" he meant was "change a sign" not "change your tune".
- vemerge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Yet this one hits the front page. But agreed, lame for duping it thrice with the same title.

Where are YOU from? - HarryBauzonia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"It beats flashing oncoming traffic and getting ticketed for it. ..."
What? You can get ticketed? I've never heard of such. Is it true? - austintxphil, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Correct, you can't get ticketed for warning about a speed trap, but you can get ticketed for 'improper use of your lights'. Trust me, been there, done that.
- soccernamlak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6No more
- chewitt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6finally, a useful first comment...
- andersontucker, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10It's shooped. I can tell, the cop is chargin his laser, and I've shooped a few whoops in my day.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you owned a store, why the hell wouldnt you want cops around?
- Aharoni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I remember that up until a few years ago here in Israel, when you saw a cop hiding on the highway with a speed trap on the other direction, it was custom to flash your light and warn the other drivers to slow down... Whenever you saw someone flash his lights you'd know that a cop was waiting several hundreds of meters away and slow down. It was as if everyone on the road were covering each other's back.
... now it means "Get off of the f**cking left lane, you're driving too slow" when they're behind you. Some idiots even flash their lights to the cars in front of them when there is a traffic congestion, thinking that if they'll flash their lights to several hundred cars they will make a magical lane that will be all free to them.
Oh how times have changed. - robdavy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5In my city (Edmonton, AB) people just call in and tell them where the speed traps and photo radar are.
- Mitchum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If the ice is bad enough people will practically regulate their own speed without much reinforcement. Idiots speeding around in poor conditions are few to be seen, except in the ditch.
- pete83, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Hahah Stretchguy, that was actually pretty funny. Too bad nobody here can spot a joke.
- Herolint, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5No it isn't. It is to raise city, county, and state revenue. Anyone claiming otherwise is a cop.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"No, you can't be ticketed for flashing your lights to warn about a speed trap - it's free speech. However, I did pulled over and got a stern talking to from an officer. After he told me he noticed me flashing my lights, he said, "And by the way, the speed limit is 55 here. You were traveling at 57. The minimum fine is $160.00. Just so you know..." Of course implying that if you make a spectacle of yourself, you may not be afforded the same leniency that is given to everyone else in traffic."
Wanna bet? Better check your local and state laws on that one. You can definatly be ticketed in PA for it. It is NOT free speech.
Truckers using a CB radio to warn others is fine however. - board2, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1That's great find

http://www.r563.com - ichbinladen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3For all you people know the Police Department made that sign. Furthermore, this pic is as old as the crust in your grandmother's underwear.
- Future2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can definitely be ticketed for warning someone of a speed trap. The cop at my high school said he had ticketed someone for flashing his cruiser regarding an upcoming speed trap.
- selrahc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They probably catch more people because they stare at the sign, start laughing, and forget to adjust their speed.
- television, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Joke is on me; 404 more likely.
- thesimo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3ah thanks, didnt wanna sign up for that stupid wordpress blog :)
hilarious pic though haha - jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@mitchum
That would depend greatly on the type of vehicle you use to get around in poor weather, a Geo Prizm is sure not going to handle 45mph in a white out while a Tacoma sized truck would have no problem passing everyone pulled over on the side of the road. - scooterDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Up here in Canada many police departments will contact the media to let them know the locations of their speed traps.
- xvertigox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you saw that sign wouldn't you slow down? The point of police ticketing speeders is to deter them from speeding and that sign is a pretty good deterrent. Why do you think they make speed cameras big and obvious? They would rather you not speed than speed and get caught.
- Iwantawii, on 10/12/2007, -9/+10I swear if you crack a joke or show some sign of being an intellectual, well spoken person the cop will let you off. Think of the jackasses they deal with 99% of the time on the road. Relate with them on a human level and you might be suprised at the outcome.
- habubu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1While I've never flashed my lights to warn others about a cop, I have on many occasions warned people about "road hazards".
- SaxxonPike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They do that here in Racine and Kenosha, WI too. Same cop car parked in the same spot. They occasionally move it a little bit. But it's still a dummy...
