- SheilaNoya, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Fargo Street in Los Angeles is extremely steep and very much like a roller coaster ride. What makes it really scary is that it comes to a pointy peak on top and then drops away very steeply on the other side of the crest. As you approach the top of it, you reach the apex where all you can see is the hood of your car sticking out in space and you can't see any more of the road. It looks like you are driving off of a cliff. Limosines and trucks get stuck at the top all the time because they are too long to traverse the pointed peak. They end up with the frame of the car/truck stuck on the peak and the back or front tires up off the ground. Think of driving to the top of a pyramid and you'll get the picture.
- shinynew, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15could someone explain to me what just happened?
- shinynew, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Do NOT watch the first video, those are the most annoying people i have ever heard.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I used to live on 1st Street in Crockett, CA (in the bay area). I'm not sure what the grade was, but it was pretty crazy. The sidewalk was a staircase. Here's a picture of the moving truck parked in front of the house. The ramp ended up being horizontal.

- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11I booked my ticket, packed my luggage, and just bought 30 pounds of marbles.
- DeskFlyer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Good luck on Canton Ave while its snowing.
- djixl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5WOW finally get to see what wordpress looks like
- Matrixsta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5street luge!
- cawpin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Or you could learn to drive.
- vexxefx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Ummm, that road is a lot less steep than the ones in the article.
And no.2's from New Zealand. - daven1986, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3lol at least spell it correctly!!
- dt40, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6Good thing that the guy in the last video is using deep dish aero wheels--Zipp 404s, it looks like. At ~5MPH I am sure they make a HUGE difference!
- ventralnet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2There was a street driving to the ferry in st thomas that was steep as crap... Can't remember the rd name.
- igjoe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I find it ironic how LA calls one of its steepest streets "Fargo". The North Dakota city where a steep incline is considered to be an on ramp.
- burdalane, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I didn't know there were such steep streets in LA, other than the driveway leading to a rooftop parking lot in the town where I live (close to LA). I'm surprised no streets in San Francisco were on the list.
- jonnyeh, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Ya, because he bought them 'just' to ride up that hill. Get a life.
- drig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I've been to the street a few times. There is only 1 house on the actual hill part of the street. It's also NOT a dead end.
- RoroCo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3 canton avenue, pittsburgh, united states - grade = 37%
A cobble stone/brick road in Pittsburgh this steep in the winter should be producing many more snow accident videos on YouTube then it is. Either they are smart enough to close the street off during snow fall or to dumb to use a video camera. I don't know they area so I could guess on that one. - tacotruck08, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1fly, segway, fly!!
- ventralnet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1on some driveways i thought we were going to topple over
- zeromancer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1are you kidding? that would be the best sledding spot on earth.
- smilesofkarli, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1those streets are pretty intense. i would not want to lose my brakes while going down those.
- Smegzor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm in the segway video (kinda). At least I can see me :P
I live on that street. Its great value for the hot female joggers. They bounce on the way up, and they bounce on the way down. I so want to set up a webcam just so I don't miss the bouncing action ^^ - metateck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1At the Olive Garden in Pensacola if you take the back exit there is an incredibly steep road that looks to me to be steeper than any of these. My mom drove down it with her brother who had never been to it and he freaked out thinking she was driving off of a hill that had no road.
- pointfivezero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hey me too!
How long have you lived here, there was a tragic story of a couple riding "wheely bins" (trash-bins with wheels) down that road which ended in resulting death and brain damage... I lived just around the corner and vaguely recall hearing a scream that night. Very sad.
The moral of the story: Students + drinking + Baldwin street = carnage.
Go Dunedin :D - nodonoug, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Look up the street on a map. It's a short street in a residential area that stops in a dead-end. There are less than 10 houses on the street, and everyone else has other options around it. My guess is those that have to use the road are very experienced navigating it in the snow, and those that don't have to use it avoid it.
- pointfivezero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hmm 15 minute drive from where I live to get to Baldwin Street, not really front-page worthy but semi-interesting to see home on here.
Dugg - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Cool, good find. I never thought L.A. would > SF in steepest hills, though. That's like finding out Miami had the coldest winter in the U.S. vs. Minnesota
- KVargs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yeah if you're in the virgin islands some of the roads and driveways are ridiculously steep
- LuckyNYC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1pics, or it didn't happen
- HanSolo69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1East Broad street in Richmond, VA heading into Shockoe Bottom. might as well be a vertical drop.
- Rikushix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I used to go to school in white rock, and I'd like to say it does, but I'm afraid it doesn't :( Only 25% grade there. That's insane though; driving up Oxford Street I hit 3000 revs in first gear...how could you even drive up the others...!?
- aNoble, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I used to live in LA and there really are some steep roads there. I remember one that was pretty steep and then ended abruptly going downhill as it met another street.
- silversword990, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was expecting the Rue d'Auseil
- jonstafari, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1true, it is... but try driving your car or walking down it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What was the point of the segway video? that was like me saying im gonna lift 1000 pounds!.... with a forklift
- nullity, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Half the streets in Morgantown, WV could top this list.
There is a reason they call us Mountaineers. - verkon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1gotta suck to be paperboy there...
- FreakyD, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2get out the roller blades and 820 square feet of bubble wrap
- paloooz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Apparently that ninja didn't like wealer's comment, so he was a dick about it. Then Mike called him an *****.
- davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -3/+31. drive to top of hill, point downward.

- kiwiboyus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Baldwin street FTW! Home town ! woo hoo
- Nescirian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0When I was learning to drive, I asked my uncle to let me learn my first hill starts on baldwin street.
But he wouldn't let me >_ - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I learned to drive stick this month. These streets make me nervous. Undoubtedly some jerk would pull up right behind you...
- passedoutghost, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I'll bet you the cyclist is screaming: 'LEEEERRROOYYY JEEENNKIIINSSS!'
- craprock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Slickrock Bike Trail FTW!
- Nescirian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Baldwin street is definitely the steepest street in the world.
Canton avenue is the steepest *avenue* in the world =P
I'm probably just biased because I walked up Baldwin street a couple of months back.
Also, Canton Avenue doesn't look properly paved? - wsycng, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1What? The author has obviously not been to San Francisco. Article buried for lameness.
