- meshman, on 10/12/2007, -15/+75Please stop with the teen 4:20 crap. It's not helping. What do you think those critical of pot legalization think when they see a bunch of 20 something shaggy hippie stoners yelling 'legalize it man like yeah man, pass me that bong dude, I'm so wasted right now. It's 4/20 dude, like spark that thing up!'. It's like having a bitter old drunk advocating alcohol consumption. I went to a pot rally in Toronto one time, just to show up and show my support. It was embarassing. I've never seen anything defeat it's own purpose so well. It would have been nice to see more normal responsible adults there but they won't come because it's loaded with stereotypical stoners. I'm surprised I didn't see Toweleeeie there.
- Franey97, on 10/12/2007, -3/+46Little 4/20 story from last year;
My 3 friends and I decided to roll a bob marley esque joint, and as we walk across the street, theres a cop cruser stopping us with the lights on. My friend decided to ditch the joint in fear (bad move). The cop asks him to pick up whatever he dropped. He then brings the joint to the cop who says its the biggest joint hes ever seen (so proud). At this point we figure we're in some trouble. The cop signals for us to lean in and says "Have a happy 4/20 boys, dont let me see you out here again with that in sight" He then hands us the joint back and drives off.
I love living in Canada and I love 4/20 - whyno, on 10/12/2007, -11/+39how about instead of reinforcing the stereotype and digging that article and just getting incredibly stoned on the 20th... you get a little baked and talk about why it's illegal with your buddies and what you can do to change that. Or get a little high (so that you sound somewhat intelligent) and go talk to people about why they think it should be illegal... usually they're stumped when, for every reason they think it should, alcohol and cigarettes are not (illegal) that's when you tell them how it became illegal in the first place
read up if you haven't

...
You know, in the context of this article and 4/20, I read that to mean something completely different. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+31man, for some one that smokes bud you're really uptight. i'm not a big fan of the whole trying to act like a stereotypical stoner either (as a pothead i feel being stereotyped demeans the things that i've accomplished in life). but instead of being the old man complaining about kids on your grass (get the pun?), you should be educating people. let people know that you are a pothead and that it doesn't inhibit your ability to grow as a person and contribute to society. thats what i do. people don't understand that the personality of the smoker determines the way he/she acts when high, not the bud.
and besides there is nothing wrong with having an excuse to get extra high. - asdfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17"well the problem is, that nothing new is stated, everything that he said was said in the past"
He did leave lots of things out, but there's nothing new to be said. Marijuana has been illegal for a century for no good reason. A big number of people know that the drug is not dangerous, and most even know why it was made illegal in the first place.
The fact is that the majority are ignorant about drugs in general. They group all drugs together into one category: Illegal. Very few people realize that chocolate, caffeine, alcohol, nicotine and benadryl fit the definition of a drug just as much as cocaine, psilocybin, ayahuasca or marijuana. There was a time in Turkey when coffee was illegal, and people were prosecuted for it much like users today are prosecuted for possession of heroin. In Islamic countries, alcohol is considered just as dangerous as heroin, much like people here consider cocaine and LSD to be the same thing.
and there really is nothing you can compare most drugs to. Yes a few of them give you a chemical high. We have downers and uppers, and we can compare them as giving "a very very strong coffee buzz" or "a deep sense of relaxation," but how do you describe a psychedelic?
Tripping on LSD is one of the most significant things one can do in life. It's something everyone should experience just once; It is just as profound as falling in love, losing a loved one or going through a near-death experience (If you disagree, google for 'john hopkins psilocybin'). The drug is 100% physically harmless, and the psychological harms only stem from its illegality. However, how do you describe an acid trip to somebody who has never even used a very mild psychedelic like marijuana?
Most people think that these drugs make you "hallucinate," but that's a very small part of the experience. You might see patterns, walls melting and breathing, and the very very fine details on everything you lay your eyes on, but most of the trip is psychological.
Anyway, now I shall go fill up a garbage bag with nitrous oxide and have a merry afternoon. - oddworld19, on 10/12/2007, -12/+27Now where did I put that bong again...

Oh yeah, Pullo, I think your talking about cocaine w/ the dopamine bit. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Back at college, the cops would always ramp up security and arrest so many people. They would even send out undercover cops to raid hangouts and sell fake drugs.
That's why I always waited for 4/21 :) - asdfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15This is turning out to be a unique 4/20 for me. Today I found a new ecstasy hookup, and tested a sample he gave me to find out that it does contain MDMA (mainly anyway) (white Supermans).
My biology professor told me the best spots to pick magic mushrooms, so I have 2 oz of that in the dehydrator right now.
Pot? about 20 grams of White Widow sitting in my freezer.
My wife is coming back from a six month trip to Tokyo.
Plus I just remembered about a few gallons of blackberry wine I put to incubate in my closet two weeks ago. It should be ready by Friday, but I'm a noob so it'll probably taste bad, which isn't much of a problem because 1) it'll contain alcohol. 2) I'll be tripping and high and 3) I made it! - SpenceMasta, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15yeah cops are fully aware of 420, in nyc the cops kinda look the other way, just as long as you're not blatently smoking in a public area where there's ppl moving through

But I'll tell you something: I would only smoke it in the late evening. Oh, occasionally the early evening, but usually the late evening - or the mid-evening.
Just the early evening, midevening and late evening. Occasionally, early afternoon, early midafternoon, or perhaps the late-midafternoon.
Oh, sometimes the early-mid-late-early morning. . . .
But never at dusk. Never at dusk!
-Steve Martin - xvertigox, on 10/12/2007, -8/+17Not enough actual information about marijuana use and it's safety. Needs facts and sources citied.
- cybermort, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I haven't smoked for 7 years now. I never really had a taste for it, yet i want it to be legal for purely personal freedom. It enrages me that something that clearly seem like a mildly harmful "vice" at the levels for alcohol, coffee and cigs... (last two which i do indulge in ever so often) is prohibited from even growing it in your own land.
is it harmful.. i don't care as long as is not going to harm people around me you nor the government should care either. it will put others at risk by making me a hazard you say.. so is the drug ambient.. someone sleep driving seems a bit more dangerous to me than stoner driving 10 miles under the speed limit.. (btw stoners the gas is to the right and you have to actually press it down just thinking about doesn't do the trick ).
is it addictive.. maybe, so is coffee and what about WoW, porn and so many other things that can cause pleasure or satisfaction in humans.. is a risk that should be left up to me if i want to take it or not.
is it a gateway.. not your problem. You could argue that reggae is a gateway to smoking weed there for a gateway to hard drug but you wouldn't at one point you have to give the responsibility to the people of abiding by laws and not trying to prevent them from ever breaking them. - Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10See kids attack the typos if you can't fight the logic, it's the easy way to compete when you have a baseless claim.
- TroubleInMind, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Same in Seattle, if you're not violating the general smoking ban (can't smoke ANYTHING indoors, or outdoors within 25 feet of a doorway or open window) the cops have been instructed to "de-emphasize enforcement".
So, if you're minding your own business, and a cop sees you smoking and not bothering anyone, you're probably not gonna get hassled. If you get pulled over for speeding and smoke rolls out of your car, OR if you're doing something else obnoxious while smoking, you will definitely get hassled. - SpenceMasta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8why all the hate on 420? everyone is digging up comments that say 420 is stupid and digging down anyone reminiscing...
you ppl are giving the impression that 420 is a day just for shaggy hippies, everyone around the office is already setting up plans to visit friends and smoke up with ppl they havent seen, seems like a genuinely nice holiday time to me
and dont hate the stereotypical stoner, they tell the best stories! (at least when im high) - Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Being tired or on a cellphone is much worse, since you didn't cite sources I won't either Mr. Smug guy.
Ever take cold medicine then drive to work? - fugularity, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9digg me down if you want for being a n00b, but I love weed but can't figure out how real potheads smoke so much so often... it doesn't take much more than 5 or 10 hits from a little bowl to get me totally baked for the rest of the night... how do you connosieurs do it?!
- cybermort, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9so you don't want it legalize because people will do what they are doing now either way... hmm
- Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6There you go again dictating what I can and can't do. Explain please how desiring to do something, even though it's illegal, makes it an addiction. I thought addiction was a need or compulsion, but, I guess since you are morally and intellectually superior you can do what you like with the definition, right?
- superpumas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It may be a coincidence, but the first vascular land plants evolved roughly 420 million years ago :)

- Franey97, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Id be lying if I said it was anything but experience, the more you smoke, the more your body becomes immune to it and lets you smoke more.

thar ya go, fixed that for ya. - ganjadude4391, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5what would a story about weed be without a comment from ganjadude???
well the problem is, that nothing new is stated, everything that he said was said in the past and on top of that we are preaching to the wrong people .
he says that people pushing an agenda, but he doesnt say what the agenda is. (DUPont made synthetic fibres, didnt want hemp competing)
there is alot more reasons and the writer was obviously baked when he wrote this because he left out a HUGE amount of important information pertaining to his persuasion
and even worse, he left our a HUGE part of history with the marihuana act of 37 and hemp act in WW2 (where a parachute made of hemp saved the life of future president G HW bush (ill leave my comment out on how we wouldnt have a smaller bush...) - Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The deffinition of freedom is being able to chose what you do as long as it harms no one else. You could live without television, radio, books, the internet, and movies so why be against censorship? Are you a media addict?
I don't want ignorant, narrow-minded, safety mavens like you being able to dictate what I can and can't do. Addiction is defined by need, I don't NEED to do a lot of things I do but I do them because I want to and I am in control of myself.
I hope you don't vote because you don't deserve the freedom you have. - SpenceMasta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5time my friend, ive been smoking everday since i was 14, now i rarely get the giggles unless i take a break or got some really fine stuff, its good to get lifted quick you spend less money, but you're pretty much done with public interaction after that, after your body becomes more immune to the effects you can function pretty much normally without anyone knowing your lit
like i am at work right now =] only way for me to get through all these tax returns =[ - EvilDr.X, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Maybe it's just me, but "your body becomes immune to it" just doesn't seem to work for me. I've been smoking for years, and I still get just as high after 2-3 good hits as I ever did. I still have to wait til the end of my day to smoke because I'm useless and lazy if I smoke at the beginning of the day. I never developed a tolerance, or a way to function in a manner that didn't let everyone around me know I was high.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5smoking anything is bad. even pot (w/ medical exception). but alcohol and cigarettes are just as bad if not worse, so im for legalization. plus, its fun to play pranks on stoned buddies.

:toke: - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hey, wait a minute here! St. Patrick was no mass murderer. Instead, he eliminated slavery and human sacrifice from Ireland. What do you have against that?????
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4So, if a bunch of people getting together to smoke pot is as bad as a bunch of people getting together and drinking alcohol, then I'm assuming the rally looked something like this: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=0b4_1176621511 ?
... - obscuredetour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The fact that cannabis is natural, been used, and has been around as long as human existence proves that it's not that big of a deal. Sure, it should be used in moderation. Just like alcohol, food, porn, etc. Just like everything. You people complaining about 'potheads' need to grow up. Sure, there are potheads that do nothing with their lives but smoke, but there are probably more alcoholics out there and they are probably more worthless people that don’t smoke. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never seen a violent pothead. I've seen many violent drunk people. So all in all, it's up to the user. It could be used responsibly. It could be abused. Just like most things in our society.
And all you people that say it has long term effects on people. I’ve yet to see it! It’s been used just as long as tobacco and I haven’t seen anybody die from it yet. Drinking a ***** can of Coca-Cola is probably more of a health risk than smoking a bowl everyday. It’s a simple fact. Coke hasn’t even been around two centuries and hasn’t even been popular for one. Do we know the long term effects of drinking a can of coke everyday? Nope, hasn’t been around long enough. Sad and you are probably the stupid ***** that drinks 3 big gulps everyday. Go home and sip on your coca-cola. I give coke half a century more before it starts taking lives.
Regardless, if marijuana does have long term side effects on your health I can pretty much guarantee that Cigarettes, Coca-Cola, and even the newly ever-so popular Energy Drinks will have a worse health risk in the long run. We choose to do what we want with our bodies. So, don’t like it? Don’t do it. I don’t like Coke and won’t drink it. It’s simple. Stop being such hypocrites.
I lead a successful life in college and working full time while smoking occasionally. Digg me down if you’d like, but the facts are there whether you choose to accept them or not. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6you don't have to smoke, you can vaporize. basically all the harms associated with inhaling smoke are gone when you vaporize, and because thc (not just smoke) irritate the lungs you actually end up coughing ***** up that is harmful while taking in almost nothing harmful, so in a way its healthier to vaporize bud than to not smoke/vaporize at all. i'm doing my lungs a favor by vaporizing thc.
- directive0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3euphemizeme: You ever eat any high fructose corn syrup? I mean...they tell us that stuff is safe...what if its all a lie? Or what about flouride? Preservatives? Funny thing is those compounds have mountains of evidence that have found them to be harmful to us over a long span of time but they are both in our water and in close to the majority of the packaged food we eat. Now I'm not saying they're bad for you or trying to be high and mighty, I ingest them all the time, I'm just saying there IS evidence to support the theory that they are not great things to eat all the time, yet here we are drinking our fluorinated tap water and chewing on our high fructose corn syrup candy bars. So why not go the whole nine yards and give the public something they actually WANT to ingest especially when there is evidence that says not only is it safe but it may be therapeutic? Why not bring it into society, and regulate it so that those who do buy and use it don't get something that will hurt them and don't give money to the wrong interests? Why is this so difficult? I don't know either... till then I'll live my life as I see fit and leave judgment and name calling to the vaunted moral superiors like yourself.
On another note. Now I regularly enjoy marijuana, but I find 4:20 and the rituals associated with pot to be painfully high school, and its stuff like this we need to drop if we want our decisions to be taken seriously. Just my opinion. - rocket777, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Ron Paul for freedom to own your own body.
Hey, didja know this.....
Who won a supreme court case that legalized pot at the federal level, back in the 60-s or so.
The next day congress quickly passed a pot bill. But for one night, it was legal.
The original pot laws were modeled after the machine gun laws. Both were designed to get around the constitution, by requiring stamps to transport guns or pot, but then they simply refuse to sell any stamps. All because back then you still had play by the rules.
In the 60's, Timothy Leary (yup the acid doc himself) got it thrown out by saying if the stamps can't be bought, then DE-facto it's really just a law forbidding the possession of pot directly, and not a regulatory process. Then the next day, congress simply made pot illegal. The gov didn't bother with any more constitutional annoyances by this time in history.
