The buzz word in today's business world is MARKETING.
However, most people often ask for a simple
explanation of "Marketing."
Here it is:
You're a man and you see a gorgeous woman at a party.
You go up to her and say, "I'm fantastic in bed,"
That's (((Direct Marketing)))
You're at a party with a bunch of friends and see a
gorgeous woman. One of your friends goes up to her and
pointing at you says,"He's fantastic in bed,"
That's(((Advertising)))
You see a gorgeous woman at a party. You go up to her
and get her telephone number. The next day you call
and say, "Hi, I'm fantastic in bed," (((That's
Telemarketing)))
You're at a party and see a gorgeous woman. You get up
and straighten your tie. You walk up to her and pour
her a drink and then say, "By the way, I'm fantastic
in bed," That's (((Public Relations)))
You're at a party and see a gorgeous woman. She walks
up to you and says, "I hear you're fantastic in bed,"
That's (((Brand Recognition)))

her into going home with your friend - That's a
(((Sales Rep)))
Your friend can't satisfy her so he calls you - That's
(((Tech Support)))
You're on your way to a party when you realize that
there could be gorgeous women in all these houses
you're passing. So you climb onto the roof of
one situated toward the center and shout at the top of
your lungs, "I'm fantastic in bed!" That's (((Junk

I didn't realize Digg had so many ads. - emiliogtz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+36Yeah, adblock has that effect... sometimes you're on somebody else's computer and can't believe that's how all those sites are supposed to look.

Isn't it "Head-on: Apply directly to _the_forehead."? - TomDammit, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9The pics are there if you turn off Adblock. ;-)
- GMorgan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Lets the unwashed masses view the adverts and let the rest of us live in ad free luxury. Essentially at some point your IQ gets high enough that you ignore adverts (like I personally mute the TV in the ad breaks), at a similar level your IQ is high enough to use adblock. You soon realise you cost the company nothing. The ads are merely a disturbance in your otherwise happy life.
- baalzebub, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4one thing all three have in common is it is almost always a HUGE load of Bullsh!t...

- adamantium, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Am I the only one who doesnt understand it? Like is it just simple ideas (like the advertisement repetition thing) ? Or is it something more? And Im not an idiot (or I thought so until now...)
- steviebaby, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6There's no difference, they're all evil...
Bill Hicks - "By the way, if anyone here is in marketing or advertising...kill yourself. Thank you. Just planting seeds, planting seeds is all I'm doing. No joke here, really. Seriously, kill yourself, you have no rationalisation for what you do, you are Satan's little helpers. Kill yourself, kill yourself, kill yourself now. Now, back to the show. Seriously, I know the marketing people: 'There's gonna be a joke comin' up.' There's no *****' joke. Suck a tail pipe, hang yourself...borrow a pistol from an NRA buddy, do something...rid the world of your evil *****' presence." - redsnapper2000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2These are great- the illustrations are actually taken from the book ZAG, by Marty Neumeier.

"Marketing is actually a lot more -- it involves researching the company's competencies, looking at the competition, macroeconomic trends, etc., then actually developing a product, choosing distribution, pricing, how it will be promoted, etc."
Nope, marketing it lying to people, not least of which is yourself.
Other, competent, trained people, develop products, arrange distributions, develop capabilities, analyse competition, etc. Marketeers just claim the credit and puff up their own importance with lies they tell there own company. Marketing is that part of the company that is an embarrassment to those that actually work for a living. - Alegoo92, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Yeah when you dilute it to the most elementary defenition.. i guess.
- Abno, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1^You are correct.

- accidental, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Marketing would be figuring out what makes a good lover, where to find good lovers and how to put people who are looking for them in contact with them.
Telling someone you're a great lover isnt marketing yourself. That is advertising.
The rest of the definitions were technically correct :) - notastat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0"Dugg for not saying "title says it all", thats a funny one.

"I've often joked with workmates that in advertising, repetition is key. In advertising, repetition is key. The key to advertising is repetition. Did I mention that in advertising, repetition is key?"
Made me chuckle at least - luvjones, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1like the straight to the point, bottom line concept!
- ortucis, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1That 'tricky' guy explained it ten times better than those pics could ever (to a total noob).

- callthisnumber, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Blocking the Ads????
I've always enjoyed listening to the numbnuts that turn off their cookies thinking they are so smart. Then they complain about how they can't get the site to work.
Part of what makes Digg possible is the ads. I know, I know, in the perfect world everything would be free for the taking. Music, movies, Mountain Dew. This is how children think until they have to start paying the mortgage and the electric bill.
To be honest though, I have never clicked on an ad here at Digg. - dasilva333, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3is "No explanation required." going to be the new "title says it all"?
- Frailty, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Great Catch! Dugg UP!
People with Down Syndrome are awesome! "BEANS and FRANKS!" "BEANS and FRANKS!" CLASSIC! - Frailty, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1This is CLASSIC!
It feels, as if, all my formal training and education in Marketing, Advertising and PR, where all for naught. Damn you memetics. :) - Frailty, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Man, what up with Digg!?!? Why would some people digg me down for this comment!?!? :
"This is CLASSIC!
It feels, as if, all my formal training and education in Marketing, Advertising and PR, where all for naught. Damn you memetics. :)"
I have had formal training in Marketing, Advertising and PR. And the easiest way to understand things it by breaking it down to its simplest forms, which is Memetics. I thought Digg was all about the Richard Dawkins guy. Maybe, some people need to read more about it. I don't know...
To ensure that this comment gets Dugg up:
