And, alas, diggers have fallen for it. - truman48, on 12/28/2007, -4/+179It's actually a cocaine front
- malfourmed, on 12/28/2007, -7/+154The Devil of course.
- passedoutghost, on 12/28/2007, -5/+142So why hasn't that ***** been stolen yet?
- ani625, on 12/28/2007, -24/+124Who the hell buys that expensive crap anyway?
- rdelplain, on 12/28/2007, -3/+79I drove by there at night once. It was wired. I didn't know it was there and I was driving through that part of Texas at about 1:00 AM. Suddenly I see a bright light. I'm wondering what the bright light is since I had been driving hours in complete darkness. Then I drive by the shack/building and see all these shoes. I'm thinking am I imagining things or did I really just see what I think I saw? It makes you think at that time of night.
- cJeremy, on 12/28/2007, -8/+69honestly, that looks pretty damn tight.
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -1/+61probably because it isn't a real store.
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -16/+65im sorry but 600 bucks for a pair of shoes is ***** ridiculous. people with a bit of class who have money? more like people who are a bit of an ass with more money than brains.
- DickyT83, on 12/28/2007, -5/+48I'm pretty sure if someone is in the area they're probably thinking "Where's the ***** gas station" not "Where can I get a new pair of Stilettos?"
- JimNtexas, on 12/28/2007, -5/+48A sane person would buy her purse at Walmart, and save her money for an Alienware computer.
- seaner, on 12/28/2007, -2/+38This is so cool but if you look on flickr you can see some vandalism. It's a shame that somebody or a company can't simply put a art work out in the blue and have to worry about vandals.
- autopilotoff360, on 12/28/2007, -16/+46I agree with eddy completely. I own a few things from Prada, and there is an actual reason for the high price. Apart from the quality of the leather and other materials, the design is far superior to most things you can buy in high street stores, and it just looks awesome in general. I know alot of people who like their stuff, and just because you dislike the brand or are envious doesn't make it 'crap'
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -2/+32god the damn thing is so isolated you could probably jack up the whole store on a flatbed and haul ass.
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -10/+36yes, by 6 year olds in sweatshops getting paid a nickel a day.
- z00k, on 12/28/2007, -3/+28"In 2005, near the West Texas towns of Valentine and Marfa, a pair of Scandinavian artists, Emily Milne and Zoe Brown, unveiled Prada Marfa, a sculpture masquerading as a Prada mini-boutique. Located along an isolated stretch of U.S. Highway 90, the 15 by 25-foot adobe and stucco building was partially funded by the Prada Foundation."
- aussieNickuss, on 12/28/2007, -0/+24If I had come across that in the middle of the night, in the middle of the desert.....i would freak out. I'd be thinking I was in some kind of trance or intoxicated state.
- allenu, on 12/28/2007, -1/+24That makes me a saaaaad Prada.
- joshua5, on 12/28/2007, -0/+22"Just two days after the opening, someone broke in. The front door was smashed, and all the shoes and handbags inside vanished. In their place, two spray-painted messages appeared on the store's exterior: "Dum Dum" and "Dumb." The day after the crime, police began an investigation. Security stickers were tacked to nearby fence posts. An alarm system was installed, and sheriff's deputies were brought in to protect the store at night. The building was repaired, and a new shipment of luxury goods was on the way."

- falstaff, on 12/28/2007, -3/+22"she'll NEVER have to buy another purse."
HAHAHAHAHA! Let me guess, you've been married less than 3 years? All you've done is encourage her to buy a $300 purse every 10-12 months instead of a $50 purse every 3 months. Sucker. - thuang513, on 12/28/2007, -7/+24probably because the clerk has an arsenal of guns in there...it is texas afterall...
- MMaguire, on 12/28/2007, -3/+19Now that is popular - it's going to get robbed........
- xxpor, on 12/28/2007, -1/+16That's what he* said
- carleethian, on 12/28/2007, -0/+13looks to me like a good place to rob
- luchid, on 12/28/2007, -2/+15Defacing private property without permission is not art, it's vandalism.
- Error601, on 12/28/2007, -2/+15That's the hold over where they capture illegal immigrants to make the stuff.
- CedEx, on 12/28/2007, -1/+14I made that mistake too. Now my girlfriend has like 7 Coach bags, since "a single purse can not possibly go with all the outfits" she has. You've just screwed yourself. Welcome to the boat... start paddling.
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -2/+14For what they charge, everything they sell ought to be made out of the ***** that Robert Patrick was made out of in Terminator 2.
- Cowboy1015, on 12/28/2007, -0/+11it's all about social status...
- thuang513, on 12/28/2007, -5/+16wtf does that have to do with anything?
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -0/+11Yay $30 chinatown knockoffs from the back of a van!
- ohhoe, on 12/28/2007, -0/+11Armani Exchange and French Connection are just the bratty mens version of coach and bebe for women.
Their clothes are disgusting and I've never seen any dude shop there other than long island and jersey guidos with too much gel in their hair who drive cars with really ***** body kits. - Ellipsys, on 12/28/2007, -2/+12Most brand names, especially those that cater primarily to women, are overpriced crap. There is a threshold of quality that you pay for, but a multi-thousand dollar purse or pair of shoes far exceeds it. There is also a difference in men's and women's items - women's items tend to be the style of the moment or the season, and still cost a fortune, despite the fact it will be uncool to wear them next year. Men's items are typically a little less pricy and trendy (though there are exceptions), higher quality, and last longer. I don't mind paying an extra $30 for the gorgeous feeling Armani Exchange t-shirts (so soft!), but I'm sure as hell not going to pay $600 for a Burberry scarf that's made of the exact same cashmere as one by another brand.
- tomis, on 12/28/2007, -2/+12I could punch you in the face and call it art, but that doesn't mean it is, and it doesn't mean it's justified by my labeling it as such.
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -3/+11It's the entrance of an underground shopping mall.
- jasej1, on 12/28/2007, -0/+8too late
http://www.houstonpress.com/2005-10-27/news/shatte ... - gl77, on 03/31/2008, -3/+11ahhh its prada, they were asking for it.
- cawpin, on 12/28/2007, -7/+15How about $400? I agree that $600 is a lot of money and it would take a bit of thinking before I spent it. I also tend to spend money on things I can use a lot, a pair of dress isn't one of them. However, my boots cost almost $400 when they were new. It was well worth the investment. They were new 10 years ago and I've resoled them probably 6 or 8 times and they're just as good as the day I bought them except that they're broken in now and are basically a hug for my feet. That's what makes it worth it. I also just encouraged my wife to buy a Coach purse last year. She was buying the "cheap" ones about every two or three months and had gone through about 5 of them. At $25-$50 a piece, it adds up quick. The $300 price on the Coach seems expensive by comparison until you realize that it is guaranteed for life so she'll NEVER have to buy another purse. It also is a very well designed purse, with all the pockets she needs and no unneeded "flufiness". If you spend money on things that are made well, you will thank yourself later.
That said, Prada does seem to be MORE expensive than necessary for the products they sell. They're probably good stuff, but a pair of heels for $300 seems excessive, even to me. - inactive, on 12/28/2007, -1/+9uh, it's Santa. Santa has something to do with everything.
- Otto, on 12/28/2007, -1/+9Paint on your own property, you dick.
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -1/+9it still has real prada purses...
those things are like $500 a pop - MrMysterious, on 12/28/2007, -1/+9That is absolutely brilliant.
- emalen, on 12/28/2007, -0/+7Waste of space? wtf? Was the tumbleweed that previously occupied that spot your friend or something?

Consumed: How Markets Corrupt Children, Infantilize Adults, and Swallow Citizens Whole - SacraBos, on 12/28/2007, -1/+6I've been on a bicycle tour that went down that stretch of road (Van Horn to Marfa). About 80 miles of very long, straight road where you see nothing but the desert, distant mountains, and a barbed-wire fence and RR track on the east side of the road. The only break on this highway is the town of Valentine, TX, which is a collection of some three-odd buildings. One is the Post Office, which has a heart shaped postage cancelling stamp.
