- JonnyTrombone, on 10/10/2007, -7/+217I will not illegally download this movie, I will not illegally download this movie...
- ACrazyGerman, on 10/10/2007, -9/+146I aw the movie last night and I gotta say it was non-stop laughter. You really got to go see in in theaters its just not the same watching it form some guy with a camcorder.
- MavRevMatt, on 10/10/2007, -12/+98Two great things in life: The Simpsons, and the Bay.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -20/+101the more you idiots try and "show off" your "knowledge" by posting news of new bootlegs online all you are doing is mainstreaming torrents and sending them the way of napster even faster. this is why the cool kids never told you any secrets in school, you cant STFU
- MarkOfTheDead, on 10/10/2007, -2/+63umm... celebrating a cam release? that's like being excited that you smashed your knee on the edge of the coffee table.
- kaniz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+39And, even with the cam rip on the net, chances are The Simpsons will open at #1 in the box office (or at least in the top 5), still make loads of money and the fact that a few thousand people download/share it will have minimal impact on the wallets of the people involved.
What hurts movie-attendance rates more than downloads, is having to pay $13.50 for a ticket, then spending nearly the same for pop/popcorn.
To go on a "date" to the movies, you can easily spend nearly $40 bucks, and that is for what - an hour and a half of entertainment? and in the process, you still get bombarded with pre-show time commercials , then post-start time commercials, followed by god knows how many trailers, then you are still left with the rest of the evening to "fill" after the movie is done.
If movie tickets were not so expensive, I'd be inclined to goto the theater far more often. - Daniel591992, on 10/10/2007, -3/+39So TPB is supposed to be a big secret?
- tidu, on 10/10/2007, -2/+35Pointless to mention that here, because nobody can comment on its validity.
- catalysis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+33Dude, this is digg. The typical movie date involves a shaky camcorder recording and a free hand.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+35Man, nothing makes me want to just pay $7,50 or whatever to see the movie more than the thought of watching a pirated camcorder copy of it. As much fun as it is to see the arm of the camcorder guy shoveling popcorn into his mouth, shaking the camcorder when he barrel laughs to a fart joke, etc.
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26Most actors get paid whether a movie does well or not. And because good movies are worth seeing on a big screen with nice sound, the movie industry continues to do good business. I'm not saying I support movie downloading- but it won't really destroy the big movie companies.
- Trax91, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Yeah, great blackboard gag for the movie. Too bad there wasn't a couch one for the movie.
- goatrandy, on 10/10/2007, -6/+27I usually don't bother to feed the trolls, but someone was bound to do it eventually and I'm bored.
1) Copyright infringement is NOT theft either ethically OR legally.
2) I wouldn't have paid $7.50 for each member of my family, and then another $60 for a bunch of popcorn and sodas, and another $60 for a babysitter to see ANYTHING in the theatres anyhow so no one is loosing any of my money. I just want to see the movie without waiting a year, and thanks to Hollywoods stupid policy of not listening to the consumer I can't go rent it, or download it in a DRM free format legally. They won't give me what I want legally, so I'm just gonna do it illegally till they get the message.
3) ***** you you judgmental, small minded self obsessed moron.
4) Copyrights and patents kill thousands and thousands of people every year by preventing people from learning about medicine or producing the medicine others need cheaply. Think about that the next time you feel like climbing to your high moral ground. - ajamer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21does ANYONE watch these horrible cam bootlegs?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19you are welcome to make a copy of any of the objects in my house, like the chair, the table, go right ahead.
- Krechet, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Ahm... I don't think so. I say let the MPAA waste its time on a couple of hundred individuals, while the rest of us find new and better ways to screw them over. They can't win. They are fighting their own consumers. And just because the guy who invented Napster was too weak and caved it to the pressure doesn't mean that TPB will.
- Geaugan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16It's usually easier to get your point across when you aren't foaming at the mouth. Also, making comparisons that don't make any sense doesn't work.
- nesdude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16My local movie theater, after being threatened by a new state of the art movie theater, reduced their prices to a measly $3 dollars per movie before 6 (and for students anytime), and $6 after 6. They also send out a newsletter that can get a free 20oz drink with purchase of a popcorn (prices range from $1.50-$3). It's an exceptional deal, and I find myself going there often to see movies. In fact, I've never seen the place empty, even at odd times of the day like morning. The parking lot is always packed with cars.
The state of the art theater has ticket prices of $9, with a small drink and popcorn totaling $5.50. Expensive for a 2 hour movie. Although not NEARLY as bad as $13.50 for a ticket. That's insane. - jezsik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Big screen movies are for the big screen. A hand-held cam version? Beeeeg deeeal!
- sselbor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11I always thought it was because I ate glue.
- DeeEffEss, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Wait a minute... Isn't there a difference between downloading Premonition, and The Simpson's Movie? Like, the difference being that Premonition sucks, and The Simpson's Movie is THE SIMPSONS!
Everybody agrees that 95% of movies coming out now suck. But aren't we supposed to support the awesome movies like The Simpson's Movie, Rescuing Dawn, and Hot Fuzz?
Now we're just downright thieves.
Pirate the crap, support the good *****. For shame Pirate Bay... - E7ernal, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14Most people on here will probably invest in the official DVD anyway for deleted scenes and commentaries anyway.
I sure know I will. If I have time then I'll see it in the cinema. - E7ernal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9are you that man?
- lava, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I went to the midnight show when it opened. I missed a lot of jokes because I was laughing so hard. So my options are:
a) Pay 10 dollars again
b) wait until the dvd comes out
c) just torrent it now.
Hmm... - capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8the real problem, though, is home theater systems becoming more popular. The best move for the movie industry is to release the movies straight to high quality dvd and for download. I'm quite sure people would pay $10 or so to download a new movie.
That, however, would cut movie theaters profits and god forbid we ruin anyones monopoly on a commodity(new releases). Buisness first, consumer second. - simonrward, on 10/10/2007, -21/+28Yeah great way to reward the guys who make the Simpsons, genius. They invested millions to make it and you can't even cough up a few dollars, or the honesty, to see it in a cinema. You're a *****.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7that guy was squatting the domain and using it as a redirect to his other site. both very ***** things to do, which is exactly why fox got to be good guy and end up with it for free after he turned down their offers to pay the hosting costs he did so far. not to mention that, on the surface i'm sure fox doesn't like that it got pirated already, but its a friggin cam release, the lowest on the movie piracy quality releases. i seriously doubt it's going to hurt the box office.
before you glorify piracy in the name of vigilante justice at least know what you're talking about. - JustFender, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7or you could do both, watch it in theaters then download it
- Gopzap, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7It's not like The Simpsons are going to lose out on TOO much money because this torrent came out.
I'm guessing less than 1% of the people that watched the movie have watched it illegally... big deal. - Krechet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5What about them? They are diminishing. Things are going online more and more now. For a good read, I recommend the August issue of Wired. There's a nice explanation of what's going on between the industry and the Writers Guild of America.
- nexterday, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Absolutely right. This is exactly how capitalism is supposed to work.
@goatrandy - while I agree with the freedom and spread of information, your last point about preventing people from learning about medicine is a misunderstanding. You see, it takes years for a drug to go through research and development before it is even tested on an animal, let alone a human. Once it goes into testing, it takes another couple years for the results of this test to come back. After years of shoveling money into this drug, it still has a very very small chance of being approved by the FDA for production. At this point, there is generally only a couple years left on the patent for said drug, thus - the high prices of prescription drugs you see today. The drug companies must make up years of R&D in a short period of time. One solution to this would be to extend the patent for drugs, or be able to file a new one once it goes into production. Another would be to have an open source movement in the drug industry as there was in the computer science industry...but I feel that is a long way off. - Smills, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I thought the movie was brilliant, and I haven't liked their last few seasons either.
- MatchStick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The Simpsons don't suck. The show might not be as good as it used to be, but it's far from sucking. If you never saw a television before in your life, and you suddenly sat down and watched every TV show currently in production, you'd say The Simpsons is in the top 5, easily.
- svartgotik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4That was pretty lame.
- mablco, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4not i. i get queezy when people get up and walk across the screen.
- allenu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Anyone got a torrent for the shirt?
- dignews, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3ehh nope look above dude ^ JonnyTrombone comment submitted 3 hours ago.
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I could give a crap less about Murdoch. Matt Groening, however, is a man worthy of respect.
- ald4ngo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3These reasons are why my girlfriend and I rent films. Don't have to put up with annoying people in the theater, and we can pause it whenever we want. Do they really charge $13.50 for tickets? The highest near me is $9, and that's a ripoff. $4 at Blockbuster (less from Netflix and local places) for two people... can't beat it. Save all the money from not going to the movies and buy a big screen :D
- stubear, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Because if you release a high quality version without DRM it will wind up on the Pirate Bay as well. You do NOT have the right to distribute intellectual property for which you do not own the copyrights, period.
- Fhwqhgads, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8MPAA needs to wake up. The movie is already in a watchable format in the theater. Why not allow people to download the new release in high quality, without ***** DRM, for a fee? Release all movies directly to DVD instead of almost a year after the come out. This is what people want - to be able to watch the latest movies wherever, however, and whenever they want.
Yes, there are always idiots who want ***** for free, thats a fact of life. But piracy is so rampant due to the refusal of the media companies to embrace new technologies. - skyshock1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Absolutely. Besides, the general movie-going crowds these days ruin the atmosphere for everyone with their screaming kids, annoying chatter, cell phones, etc....
I have a big screen TV at home, and patience to wait for the DVD. Going to the movies anymore seems utterly pointless. - splitriff, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2the logo and tshirt were on piratebay days before the movie was released
- ezkiel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3are you suggesting you have never screwed any company by downloading copyrighted material from them?
why should fox be any different.
I'm sorry your love of The Simpson's blinded you to your (very likely) hypocrisy.
I have no real issue dipping into Murdock's pocket. - archer104, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2*Flanders voice* What in the diddly?
- MatchStick, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Couldn't have put it better myself, Vinny.
- jamie191817, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3yeah, thats exacty what i was thinking! but then i saw that i cant do that yet, cos it aint out.
so what i really want is to pay for my film, and watch it guilt free now!! so, thats why i think each film should have a donation box on its website, so i can download the torrent, and then still give the studio money, without helping to support that stupid bitch who runs the local cinema. really strongly dislike her. - DarkTranquility, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Yeah I agree, there was a point where the entire audience was pointing and laughing when I saw it... The best part of the movie is that it doesn't feel like one giant episode, it actually has a decent plot and is constantly funny.
- DarkDx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They're 5$ here per ticker. I don't understand where do you live? in expensivelandia or something?
- MatchStick, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3SPOILER:
that's on the board in the beginning of the movie -
