- Zorn, on 10/11/2007, -10/+46From a BBC report: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/1272522.stm
At a run-down police station in Sikasso, a small town in Mali, the files on missing children are endless.
The sad truth is that many have been kidnapped and sold into slavery. The going price is about US$30.
The local police chief is in no doubt where the children have gone. "It's definitely slavery over there," he said. "The kids have to work so hard they get sick and some even die."
In all, at least 15,000 children are thought to be over in the neighbouring Ivory Coast, producing cocoa which then goes towards making almost half of the world's chocolate. - chingy1788, on 11/01/2007, -4/+37Ill stick with my Ferrero Roche, thanks
- halavais, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23And this is somehow different from eating a $20 steak when half the world lives on $2 a day, or filling your tank with gasoline that could feed several families for a day.
Heck, your yearly medical checkup probably costs something like this--forgo that and think of who you will save.
What does your cable bill run? Think of how many people you've killed.
I appreciate your point, but it's a matter of decisions. I don't see eating an expensive chocolate as any less or more decadent than paying $750 a year for cable TV. - Typhoon2009, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17It's so good, that it's forbidden!
- CompIsMyRx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16$1 for the chocolate, $249 for the silver box.
- Easty, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14At that price, it had better bring everyone to orgasm within a 5-mile radius.
- Speedy7, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18mmm... I like chocolate... I like doughnuts... I like going off topic...
- catalysis, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13The only reason it is expensive is because it has truffle in it.
- biggles266, on 10/11/2007, -25/+37I guess some people are able to eat a $250 chocolate and not think about the fact that half the world lives on $2 / day. I hope they feel good about themselves.
- unibomber999, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Yeah, plus it gets the money goes then to the chocolate maker, who pays employee's, rent, cocoa farmers, etc.
I love it when rich people blow their money on stupid crap like this. What would be a shame is if they just kept it all in the bank and didn't redistribute it - scabbers, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11That's like sticking a diamond on top of a chocolate and saying OMG MOST EXPENSIVE CHOCOLATE.
- lebaige, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9How DARE anybody make money and spend it rather than give it away ..
- keysersoze1, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Let them eat cake
- bobdobolena, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Isn't cocaine cheaper? And jeez, I bet it gives a better buzz!

- compgeek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Thank God for simple tastes ($1 wonderbar is my favorite) $250 for a single chocolate holy crap I have far better uses for that like say... A FEW COLLEGE TEXTBOOKS!
- MoDinero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The most expensive chocolate I've had worked on the corner of Fifth Ave & Main St. Her name was Lakisha and she charged $350 per hour.
- SpookyET, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I love those things.
- zip000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Well, Jeez! NOW I don't!
Sheesh. - sislak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3people have tried to grow truffles commercially, but they don't taste even nearly the same. That is why they are so expensive.
- masamunecyrus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3If you could afford it, you wouldn't be complaining, either. :-)
- IdanE, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2moght be true, but who are you to say that watching mind numbing TV is better than eating something that gives you a great sensual experience ? I'm pretty sure I'd rather pay 750$ for things that are exquisite (be they this insane chocolate, a really good meal, or several great massages), rather than for watching some more news, or another friends rerun, or american idol.
But it's just a matter of taste - some people like things that aren't mundane, and others... Well, some people like american idol - proghead, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3This is delicious!
- staffrocket, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2$2600 for a pound? Couldn't you just buy something cheap and sell it for $2700 a pound making it the most expensive?
- codyman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I do like the high cacao stuff... but rarely do I get any... and if I do, its like a $2 bar which I then bitch about for the rest of the day about "how expensive good chocolate is"... apparently, $2 bucks is a bargain now vs $2600 a pound... ***** my first car was $500 bucks
- maanwi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2There is definitely a difference between low end chocolates like Hersheys, and, say, V chocolates, but I doubt there is any distinguishable difference in either taste or quality from that tier to this grossly decadent one. Some people have more money than brains.
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Yeah.... I'm gonna stick with my $1.00 a bar chocolate thanks. Only idiots would place that much value in a piece of candy.
- emjaymj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You could also argue that at least chocolate doesn't contribute to the dumbing down of society.
- verbose, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This sounds interesting, but the site's down. Aren't real truffles more of a savory flavor? Does this taste odd?
- VeganG, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hershey's is too milk-happy, they ruin all of their chocolate.
- Digitalfilm43, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1And it's not sold by the pound anyway. It's $250 per piece (chocolate and truffle). Each piece is probably 1.5 ounces.
Still, you're paying $162.50 an ounce! - Daveecee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Chocolate mushroom? No thanks.
- sekhui, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Thanks for the link--it all looks great, and none of it is nearly as expensive as that truffle-truffle.
- kendawg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1http://www.gourmetfoodstore.com/truffles/truffles-details-5887.asp?mscssid=9113HN2XXH7S9KRNGFGHQ018GP7F1K10
- Typhoon2009, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I wonder, why don't people just grow truffles? It can't be THAT hard.
- SirTezzy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2It tastes really great? For that price, I am expecting a handjob.
- ladyarcher85, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have tasted some expensive chocolates though not really the MOST expensive stuff out there and I have tasted the kinds you can buy almost anywhere like Cadbury, Hersheys, Toblerone etc.
Truth be told, I can't really taste the difference. Sometimes I think the cadburys even taste better than the high end brand but to spend thousands of dollars on a pound of chocolate probably growing on the same tree is just down right silly!
http://www.dallasfood.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=78 - wackymacs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I wonder if they've sold any yet? :-)
- HydraulicToast, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1omg most expensive cake!

- rollerboy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2That story deserves to be Digged way more than the expensive chocolate one.
- LouisC, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Pretty damn good.
- LouisC, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I love the high cocoa stuff as well. I can't eat anything below 70% now without it being too sweet.
- Netrilix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That's nothing.. I had this goldfish....
- loganhid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1why would peaple spend $250 for some choclate when there are peaple in africa how would do anything to get some simple food?
